It's so revealing who is still prepared to defend Johnson. Lord Greenhalgh on Newsnight is prepared to hold up his dead mother as a protective shield for Johnson. Just a complete dignity bypass by the man.
Looked him up. Deputy mayor under Johnson. Put in Lords by Johnson. Only 55 years old. Major role in Return of The Jedi. To be fair, by the end of that session with Victoria Derbyshire he looked utterly defeated and just shrugged at the final death blows.
I think they think that if they lost a relative due to Covid, or because Johnson was hospitalised, it will be some kind of magic card to get them off the hook with the public. The problem is, they appeared on TV at 5pm every day for weeks telling the country what was and was not permitted. People could not say goodbye to dying loved ones. People watched funerals on laptops, or later attended in small, socially-distanced numbers and went straight home afterwards. Medical staff wrapped themselves in makeshift PPE, or faulty PPE. They got sores on their faces from wearing masks for long shifts. They changed out of their 'infected' clothes and went home to shower before mixing with their families. People went to supermarkets and queued up until they were let in, shopped in silence and went home again. People went for an hour's walk but no more. Most people did not think, "Oh let's have a few beers and a glass of wine with colleagues because today has been, y'know, pretty bloody challenging, actually." Too many in Government, or close to Government, did as they pleased and filled their pockets with money and their lack of understanding about the anger that has generated is remarkable. This revisionism that it was all really jolly hard and they were just doing their best and mistakes were inevitable doesn't work now because it is at odds with the 'we know best, do as we say' confidence and certainty they portrayed throughout the pandemic. They can't have it both ways. They knew what they were doing and they didn't care.
Isn't it odd the when you wiki anyone 'supporting'/enabling De Pfeffel the majority of them have a "Controversy/Controversies" section in their profile...
I think that's all well and good but missing the point about yesterday. Yesterday was about a Standards Committee investigating whether he willfully and recklessly lied to parliament, in this case over party-gate. De Pfeffel stood at the dispatch box continually lying over the Brexit deal, the withdrawal agreement, unemployment figures, economic growth figures, Dominic Cummings's activities the state of the UK economy, new trade deals, the economy, immigration, Keir Starmer's legal career and obeying his own governmemt's rules over the covid lockdown rules (TBTH the list is farking endless). It was this final one that was the smoking gun - he was issued with criminal sanctions over it and had lied previously, and repeatedly, on the record to parliament. There weren't these smoking guns for all the other stuff. De Pfeffel's face when, just after, waxing lyrically about Sue Gray's investigation he was told the committee would be ignoring that was a picture...
It woz the Deep State wot tried to do for Boris, says Dan Wuuton, channeling the Trumpaloons. Oh yes, this was a conspiracy to lie that went right to the top. Remind us, who was at the top?
Is that winker Mogg trying to imply it's a kangaroo court ? What a *****. No surprises with the other two. Frontline workers agree with the privileged toff ? Of course they would. Especially those who had colleagues die on London Transport and in hospitals thanks to the ineptitude of this thick winker. Dorries. Barely enough grey matter to cover a sandwich.
True, but I was referring to the appearance of Lord Greenhalgh on Newsnight last night, playing his 'my mum died during Covid too' card, and the general tone of the apologists for Johnson we've seen in recent days. Johnson has no choice but to ride it out and carry on lying – or hope the whole thing is dismissed as a witchhunt – because the alternative is he faces a suspension which could trigger a by-election.
The claim that this is a ‘Kangaroo Court’ is highly irresponsible from any Parliamentarian. There is no aspect of standards in public life Boris and his cronies won’t trash.
Colin from Portsmouth on that ‘Kangaroo Court’. https://twitter.com/exploding_heads/status/1638857976986615808?s=46&t=oqOMSJXE_g7J5C7kNPG9LA
From Newsnight to Good Morning Britain: Go on De Pfeffel ignore the committee - I'm sure it will just "go away": Partygate: Johnson should reject any finding that he broke rules, say allies Former PM should refuse to accept outcome if privileges committee rules he knowingly misled MPs, say supporters
Amusing moment during Question Time as Fiona Bruce asks a Staffordshire audience, rammed full of Tory voters, whether they think Boris Johnson was telling the truth this week.
Interviewer: "Mr Johnson, out of all the lies you've ever told, which one is your favourite?" Johnson: "I've never told any lies." Interviewer: "Yes, that's my favourite, too."
Truly de Pfeffel and Mad Nad are the gift that just keeps on giving: Standards watchdog mulls investigating MPs’ smears of Partygate inquiry Daniel Greenberg has received complaints about Johnson allies disparaging privileges committee Nadine Dorries interviews Boris Johnson on TalkTV. The former culture secretary has called the privileges committee a ‘kangaroo court’...
There are rumours of yet another 'gig': Calls for Boris Johnson’s role in Richard Sharp’s BBC appointment to be examined https://twitter.com/_peterriddell/status/1651887894871646211
The final 'gig' could be within 3 weeks... Partygate: Boris Johnson’s political future could be decided within weeks Privileges committee pencils in 23-24 May to finalise inquiry into whether former PM misled MPs over lockdown parties

Another greatest hits compilation: Covid inquiry threatened legal action over Boris Johnson WhatsApp messages Cabinet Office was warned over refusal to provide former prime minister’s unredacted notes and diaries
Can't you morns get it into your thick, comprehensively educated, skulls that the rules do not apply to De Pfeffel:
https://twitter.com/SkyNews/status/1662215232612184066 I'm assuming that's his legal/PR minders who keeps trying to get him to STFU...
Sunak/Cabinet Office resisting handing over Fatso's WhatsApps and Diaries as "much of it not relevant". Who the **** are they to say it's not relevant? Would you give the accused in a trial the opportunity to sift the evidence and decide what is/isn't relevant? Preposterous. Anyway, they are now saying they haven't got them (in spite of knowing what is and not relevant). Lady Hallett has extended the deadline for producing this stuff to Thursday but has tacked on a very robust extra condition:
We do in civil courts in this country, where it's absolutely normal for the opposing parties to oversee their own disclosure, including redacting irrelevant information. And I think a lot of what goes on in public inquiries falls back on the same principles. I think the dispute here will be about what the terms of reference are for the inquiry. Wouldn't be shocked if it ends up with the courts deciding any dispute.
