He may well have a knee problem but it didn't stop him making the bench against Norwich despite Elliott traveling or stop him from training it seems.

Player feels pain in his knee day before/day of game, is demoted to bench. Player continues to feel pain in knee so misses next game. Player still not 100% but able to train (in the video he's not training with the other GKs so presumably doing independent stuff).

Not buying the conspiracy tbh, he'll be back soon. Possibly on the bench to start with, depending on Foster's performances.

No, it’s from 2:33, just after Foster fails to pronounce Angelini’s name. When the GoPro’s in the goal, Bachmann is there and I think diving round in a couple of the clips.
Can clearly see him at 2:52

If he plays for Austria in the upcoming international break then we will know if he's really injured. I think they play Faroe Islands next.

At least he got something to the rebound I suppose. Scotland's late winner against Israel means that all they have to do is beat the Faroe Islands and Moldova and they've wrapped up 2nd, although even if they slip up in one of those games, Austria haven't been looking good enough to take advantage (though they have a play-off spot pretty much guaranteed via their performances in the Nations League)

Now leading 1-0 after a genuinely good save from Bachmann and some more woeful defending.

Yet again, we're talking about a bad game from Foster, Bachmann isn't perfect, and I doubt it would have been much different had he played, but that first goal after just 8 minutes almost certainly doesn't happen with Bachmann in goal, if we keep it tight for a while, then who knows what would have happened? Plus, you know, he wouldn't be giving opposition fans tickets in the home end...

What was wrong with the first goal ?

Didn’t think he could do much ..

    Decent square ball and finish.

Well, we wouldn't have been 1-0 down after 8 minutes if Bachmann had played, his kicking is quite good

No we would probably have lost by double figures as Bachman would not have cut out the crosses that Ben did or make the two or three brilliant saves that he made either :p

  17. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

Again, they were routine saves really, one you'd expect any professional goalie to make. I remember a few crosses that Foster claimed, but it wasn't like he had to charge through a host of players to do so

I honestly cannot believe that you or others on here seem to think that Foster played badly, without him we would have lost by close to double figures IMO

If we'd played without a keeper we probably would have lost by double figures, yes.

May have been better than 5-0 if we'd played with a competent one though. Foster's kicking is diabolical, his positioning and footwork is poor and he's becoming less and less agile.

Not his worst game at all, but he can't kick the ball for toffee and it contributed to the first goal. That alone is reason to question him, let alone him allegedly giving tickets to away fans...

Foster isn’t professional. Bantz with opposition after a defeat (yet again) and allegedly giving Liverpool fans tickets in the home end. Bachmann at least has professionalism. Despite his faults Bachmann can be the only choice in the current situation.

No, you're talking about a bad game because of your personal prejudice, from where I was sitting he was let down by a non-existent midfield and a incompetent defence.

Bachmann crumbles under pressure and I have no confidence in him.

My preference would be recall Dahlberg in January, sell Bachmann and shop for a new keeper in the summer.

Well Dahlberg hasn’t exactly had a great time at Doncaster so not sure what his confidence will be like ?

Seems like he's had a fantastic time there and their fans largely love him? Although he's made a couple of errors, to be expected at his age.

Dahlberg is not ready to be a PL keeper for at minimum another Season. He's a lower end Championship keeper currently. His handling is slightly suspect when handling crosses still whilst his kicking isn't a whole lot better than Foster's. It's improving but it's slow and he can't have another Season of being 2nd choice if he is to develop further. He has a very good inate sense of positioning and knowing when to sweep / rush a player. He Is also fearless and does not hesitate when to stick or twist which Foster and Bachmann both struggle with. He's overall having a very good Season and their Forums regularly praise him despite his occasional gaffes but highlight his long kicking to the wings especially as an issue, and can be reflected in his stats for this action too. Seen rumours lower Championship sides are interested in loaning him for the 2nd half of this Season but think he's better suited to having a full Season as undisputed 1st choice where he currently is.

If we sell a keeper, Foster is the one that needs to go. Both are homegrown so that doesn't my impact thinking there. Bachmann will only increase in value while Foster will continue to decrease. (And realistically is worth nothing in a transfer fee view so is financially a bigger drain of thw two) Both goalkeepers are about equal to my eye shot stopping wise, but Bachmann has generally faced a higher quality set of shots against him such as the McGinn goal or the Duffy header while Foster fluffed Longstaff's effort and flapped at the Leeds goal where he is meant to excel in.

Bachmann's handling is superior partly due to his better footwork and more traditional diving technique; Foster leads for a lot of low saves one handed which isn't always the a bad thing depending upon the shots faced but Bachmann gets down low with two hands much more reliably, meaning he should be on average be able to hold and retain a higher quality and a larger quantity of shots such as the late shot v Reading as an example.

Distribution as we know is a complete non contest. Bachmann regularly last Season spotted Sarr's runs in behind a team and pinged an accurate long pass to him which Foster tried today with our runners and regularly mishit them. This has a bigger effect on our attacks than you may expect as it means we are caught in transition from attacking to then defending which is what a lot of managers prey on as teams are most vulnerable at that stage to counter attacks.

I know I've posted this before, for 20/21 stats highlighting this particular fact. Bachmann's kicking regularly leads to "positive outcomes" (Shot taken, corner won, etc) whilst his positioning was slightly better (See positioning error) but claimed less crosses per game and is slightly deeper in starting position which again matches the eye test. Finally, Bachmann takes more risks with the ball in position as per pass into danger which means he passed to players regularly who were under pressure immediately after. Players like Femenia and Pedro are press resistant and can retain the ball like this while Ekong and Cathcart are not.

    Foster v Bachmann.png

As we all agree on though, Foster's command of the six yard box is noticeably better and would likely have come for the cross v Wolves for example. (Though I disagree about the cross / goal by Son being a glaring Bachmann error, that was the perfect ball into the "corridor of uncertainty" where it's extremely risky to go early for it when an attacking player is likely to get there first)

Foster was very good at coming to the edge of his box today while claiming dangerous balls in behind the back line, and took in a number of crosses today and I doubt Bachmann would have come for half of them. His save from the first long range Salah effort is for a PL keeper a regulation save (Straight shot with minimal bend, hit hard but easier to anticipate and react from range) whilst the 2nd effort from Salah later on was a legitimately good save as that was bending and much harder to read. For the goals we conceded, he wasn't directly responsible for any of them.

But it doesn't gloss over he has severely degraded since 18/19 and that his distribution, although was better today than against Leeds is still far below what is acceptable for even Championship level, let alone PL level and one goal came from him giving it away albeit it had to go through some of the team to then come back at him. His long kicking is shockingly poor and his throws are going awry too which we cannot afford when possesion is already at a premium.

I agree we need a new goalkeeper in any situation.

    Small error:

Pass into Danger% - Percentage of Passes made where the recipient was under pressure or otherwise in Danger.

Foster's passing puts our outfield players under more pressure to retain the ball, while Bachmann is more capable at spotting players who can keep the ball without putting them in the same amount of danger.

We need to clear out all our current keepers and invest in one decent first choice keeper and a semi decent back up for the bench. Having 3 keepers who are not quite good enough to be first choice really doesn’t help us.

I can't comment on Dahlberg, but this is 100% correct with Foster and Bachmann. Neither of them are good enough.

He’s clearly not good enough for the prem and maybe not for the champ. What is the point in having 4 goalkeepers inc Elliot but excl kids who aren’t good enough to be a first team regular ??

We might as well just get a whole new squad then!

I mean someone has to play and we have to build some sort of squad - not everyone is going to be great or up to the standard you might hope for.

Should have signed Romero while he was a free agent, only 34 so in goal keeper terms, and especially in our terms, he’s basically a teenager. Was only recently picked up by Serie A side Venezia.

If Bachmann does play against Everton, then let's hope Everton don't do what they normally do and put alot of crosses in.
