Run outs in this situation are unforgivable. The only thing I would say is that Jadeja, having rugby tackled Hameed when attempting a run a couple of overs beforehand, steps across Malan slightly which causes his hesitation. Think/hope this one will peter out into a draw now. The required run rate is creeping up towards 4 and England have only scored at 2 today. No Buttler/Stokes either (even if Mo/Root/Bairstow have it in their locker to score quickly).
It seems our brave lads are going to fall just short. 6 wickets for 47 runs, 4 wickets for 6 runs. Hundreds from Woakes and Root would probably get us over the line though.
I think he's more likely to be thinking that our best chance of drawing is if he can take 3 hours to sip it.
It's reaching that phase of the game where we put together a 20 run 45 mins partnership which has everyone believing "if we can just stand firm for another hour, we just might save this" before the last 4 wickets fall in the space of an hour. Just 50 overs to survive now.
Yes was thinking the same the other day. Really knowledgeable and interesting. I think I've even forgiven him for being part of that Aussie team and for sh*gging Liz Hurley.
Nothing delivery, no danger, plays onto his own stumps. Game over. If ever a wicket summed up a captaincy reign.
All down to you then Ollie , Jimmy and Craig . Good luck! The middle order hasn’t really performed has it?
Getting really tight now. Can Overton, Robinson and Anderson see out the remaining 38 overs, .....or even dream of scoring the 175 runs to seal an unexpected win ? 116-8 today on a flat pitch. Gutless.
Not sure we can blame captaincy for some of the shots played. Play most of the dismissals with a straight bat and they wouldn't have got out. I think it's panned out how most people thought it would.
I think the view is that Root's timid and recessive nature is hardly what's needed to inspire a team to greatness. He's a great batsman but not a tactician or leader. Not sure who you'd give it to though looking at this squad. Burns maybe ? Buttler maybe ?
Not sure Buttler has been great recently. If he could stay fit I would think Woakes would make a good captain. On the plus side Yorkshire look as though they may beat Somerset inside two days! Sorry @Keighley
From the great Andy Zaltsman:- "Assuming India win it will be the first time they have won a match where they've been put into bat and dismissed for less than 200 in the first innings. The last time England put their opponents in, bowled them out for less than 200, and let on to lose was the centenary Test in Australia in 1977." Humiliation.
Could have gone either way until that last 20 mins or so. Bad luck, brave brave effort lads. 133-10 today
All over. Well played India . Will we see any changes for Old Trafford particularly in the bowling department?
Bairstow still not good enough and get a spin bowler who can actually bowl. I never got the reasoning for bringing Ali back. Bess has bowled well this year I think Leach should play
Disappointing. Started off well last night and the first session went ok aside from the run out. Reckon India will now win 2.1 and final match ends in a rainy draw
We don't have 11 test players who are good enough to play Test cricket. Other than Root & Robinson, I'm not sure any of the current squad warrant a place. Woakes looked ok this match but looks helpless bowling on a wicket without seam movement.
