The selective quote that was originally posted here was "This is still in the top 20 of all seasons in the clubs history" without the rest of the context indicating someone suggesting that nothing is wrong, and we should all be happy.
The full quote shows that I too wasn't happy with the performance, that we all expect better, but that things aren't as bad as some people (not you, whose response was very measured) were making out, when declaring that everyone involved at the club should be hung, drawn & quartered, as I've seen on my timeline and various forums, mailing lists and whatsapp groups in the last 36 hours.

I have similar fears to many. I've spoken about them publicly on Twitter and when I was last on Hornet Hive. And I will do again on Twitter & if I'm asked on Hornet Hive again. Just don't agree with many of the conspiracy theorists - some because what they say is plain wrong from what I see with my own eyes.

But will leave it there - I'm in a no win situation and have already typed more than I should have. I've had the opportunity to say the piece I wanted to, and wish you all health, happiness, safety and 3 points next Saturday.

Why, did it touch a nerve given that you're always acting as if it's the end of the world?

Angry? Sure. I am too at the way we're playing. But it's how some people show that anger that I find wrong. The level of hatred being shown to some people I'll never understand. They are human beings, just like you and me are - and some are being blamed for things completely out of their control. In my years on this planet, I've not found much success screaming at people and calling them every name under the sun as a motivator for them to help you out. And I've certainly done it in my time, and seen the reaction.

The world isn't ending. We're in the top 6 in the Championship, and if our talented players actually play to their full capability, we've still got a really good chance of going back up.

(I know, I'd said I was going to leave it there. Now I really am. Back to lurker mode.)

Very good point. Most teams at this level know you have to set your team tactically and especially be aware of the key oppi strengths and weaknesses. That's why every game our weaknesses are shown up very clearly and following teams pick up on it as well. (OK flood the midfield, lots of give it and go, press on them every time they start passing out from the back, kick Sarr.)
Our regular tactical response is "bang it up to Sarr".
I believe our biggest problem is still that we always bring the ball out from deep very slowly, so we are begging for the hard press, and we get it game after game and hardly get onto the front foot.

I totally understood the premise of your tweet - ie that in terms of league position this is one of our twenty highest seasons - although I think saying that makes it one of our ‘best’ seasons is a little bit over the top. Most people would enjoy a season winning the championship than a Mazzarri-like season in the premier league. Getting promotion from the old Division 3 under GT was surely ‘better’ than this.

I’m curious to know because of how informed you are about football (although I understand if you don’t want to post in your name given your level of association with the club on Hive Live etc) would you stick with Ivic? I was willing to back him a few weeks ago but both results and performances have gone backwards and he seems totally unable to create any attacking patterns of play. Who do you think would be a good fit, Miles?

First, as someone who spent a lot of time on Champ Man back in the day, I'd like to say how great it is to have such a legend on the forum.

Second, given that you must have the ear of people at the club, can you please nudge them to finally sign a couple of decent strikers? Ta!

I've never taken a football coaching course but given what passes for strategy and tactics so far this season it appears to be similar to what used to be required to become an estate agent. An acquaintance applied in the name of his dog and was granted the license.
It's not too unlike US tennis coaching, you can do a few hours on some boards and off you go and charge $80 an hour.
We often have guest speakers at coaching conventions and courses,I've mentioned Dave Alred before (and if Miles is still lurking ask the oligarchs to employ him.) However I'd love to spend a day at LC and observe what constitutes a day's training.
I hope I'd be impressed but given what we've witnessed I doubt it.
Most coaches will encourage their players to trust the performance and the outcome will come sooner rather than later.
That assumes there is a strategy and a tactical plan.
Jeepers creepers it's not THAT difficult. I cannot understand how we are so bad at the basics, matters that should be fundamental in elite level sport.
Yesterday we looked like a pub team and bottom line whether Xisco is up to the task or not the players should still be professional enough to work to their maximum. If they can't they don't play.
I've emailed Dave Messenger to request an address to write to Gino, either actual or virtual. I await his reply with interest.

They’d just spent 15 mins with our ‘head coach’ shouting over Neil Diamond on the CD a player and Troy whispering his alternative plans into their ears...

What did you expect them to look like?

Yes, there are a lot of posts on various fora that are clearly driven by (understandable) emotion, but I’m still not sure you’ve fully grasped the fact that it is the dreadful decision making that has resulted in the current unacceptable level of performance that people are really upset about- not those performances per se. And the fact that there appears no discernible evidence of that decision making process improving.
Everyone is entitled to their own interpretations, but many people feel their current disquiet is not over-reaction but the understandable response to a chain of events they feared would lead to this situation.

Exactly. The best player to come through the club in recent years was Richarlison - and even then he sat on the bench for months to see out his final days.

This is exactly right. All I want from a Watford team, which effectively represents me as a fan on the pitch, is that they try their best and put in a performance I can be proud of, irrespective of their position in the league or even which league they are in. This season has probably consistently been the poorest in that regard I can remember.

I shouldn't think this is a top 20 season in terms of performances!

    Probably more like bottom 20!

Have we ever got this far into a season and not go into double figures for away goals?

Considering what we are supposed to have up that is awful.

No one would mind so much if we were playing well and were just unlucky or something but you can count the number of good performances on one hand.

It’s all this ‘the world isn’t ending talk’ that I think also gets people’s backs up. No one has said the world is ending - if there was an asteroid heading our way to wipe the world out, none of us would be here complaining about the way our club is run. You are asking for ‘perspective’ but that goes two ways.

I appreciate you coming on to clear up the Twitter post. Must confess I found it a bit clumsily worded and I’m not sure adding the extra context today makes look less so - but we are all guilty of that from time to time.

And as ever, if our owner wasn’t mute, and the chairman didn’t show himself as shifty whenever dealing with fans, then fans disquiet could be quelled. But communication is a big problem and Duxbury has said clearly he doesn’t think it is.

Fans will continue to speak out against them until they get answers. I think what some are hoping for is that some high-profile fans will sometimes use their platforms (and the ones the club sometimes affords them) to really question what’s going on. Not tip-toe around it. I do fear that people like Leventhal and Co are terrified of losing their access so keep it PG.

We almost need any old manager "that has managed for 3+ years in this division" - that will know how to drill a team at this level.?
OK so EH would be my choice, but I'm assuming the reason we didn't get in a decent manager was because they All said "you must be effing joking"....

Good to see that the forces of evil are sending theit acolytes to try and quell the fires of rebellion.

When Ivic lost his battle with Deeney, I didnt think it would make any difference who our new manager was. Once we sack Xisco it doesnt matter who the next boss is. Either he'll submit to Deeney like Xisco did, with the inevitable outcome or he'll try to keep Deeney below him in the hierarchy, like Ivic did and we all know what happens to Watford managers who challenge Troy's power base. With Troy at the club promotion is impossible and relegation next season a serious threat. We have a lot of good players but they under perform with Troy as the 'leader'. He only cares about himself and his own status at the club and in the media. Troy is the albatross round our necks.

This was our seventh 0-0 of the season.

I believe that’s the most we’ve had in a campaign since the year Jackett was in charge back in the mid 1990s, when we endured nine.

I remember that season. I think we went 28 games unbeaten, before losing away at Shrewsbury. We still only ended up 13th!!

Listening to the Watford Buzz just now, it informed me of something that I hadn't realised, which is that Bristol City on Saturday is the start of a period in which we have three games in seven days.

This crytallises just how imperative it is that Xisco go before that happens - he could genuinely start to sink us in that one fell swoop, and both Jordan Weimer and Tom Bodell were in agreement that it was most likely that if he was still in charge for Bristol, he would be in charge for the next two, regardless of result, because of timing.

As I said in an earlier post, I was worried about Coventry being a powder puff stay of execution game, and how that turned out - now it looks like whatever happens, he could be about to get three more. This is the worst possible time to find ourselves in this situation, and frankly the only possible acceptable explanation is that the club are working behind the scenes as we speak to ensure his successor is in place before he goes.

We drew a lot of games that season. My optimism as a young lad that we would go straight back up from what is now League One was misplaced. That was the first in now a reasonable line of seasons after relegation where we have ended up being shi*e.
