I gave up after the first half and watched Sonego v Djokovic. I saw the highlights later and thought Chelsea were unfortunate in the last ten minutes but that's what you get when you only start playing when a goal down. Well done FFF!
Fair enough - I thought a couple of penalties had been given like that earlier in the season but guess they were wrong decisions. Yes does seem sometimes different pictures and stills are used by VAR and the TV companies.
If you follow the lines down to where the linesman is so perspective isn't a factor, he's actually way offside. It's not millimetres, it's probably 8 inches. Plus it looked offside, I'd imagine in the days before VAR that would've been flagged off more often than not.
Mr Walton is just giving what is imo a poor excuse for giving the goal, without considering how the decisions of the rest of the game were played out. Makes no difference on the timeframe between handball and goal, once its a handball the whistle should have gone for handball. Once Silva gets penalised, with little or no hesitation from the referee for it hitting his hand after first striking another part of his body, then that consistency has to remain for the rest of the game. If my team (Watford) had lost 1-0 in a cup final by a goal like that, after one of our players got penalised for a similar handball in the game, then I would feel that the team were cheated.
How about if your team (Watford) was 1-0 up away from home, and the opposition striker controlled it with his hand before scoring the equaliser. Meaning the game ended up 1-1, and eventually you got relegated by one point (after being robbed of 2)? But on the plus side, at least they apologised for the mistake... If VAR cheated them, they're not the first and it's not a conspiracy. But also, VAR got it right both times anyway.
In the run up to the Final there was much chat about Leicester’s previous Cup Final in ‘69. I remembered watching it but I also had a memory that Leicester were relegated some time after the final. In those days the Cup Final was very much the grand ending to the football season but, having looked it up, I was astonished to find that Leicester had FIVE league games still to play to try and avoid relegation. Coventry (of course) who they were chasing were 6 points ahead (2 for a win in those days) having completed their programme. This would all have been due to the many postponements back then because of bad weather and multiple cup replays. Leicester managed two wins and a draw in those five games to fall one point short and were relegated a full three weeks after their Cup Final defeat. I assume Lineker cried again.
I never said it's a conspiracy, I just said, as an observer, I thought Chelsea were unfortunate on the day with the handball inconsistency.
Congratulations. Fantastic strike. I must admit there was a slight fist punch when it hit the back of the net. I definitely enjoyed the warm welcome for Chilwell.
And that wasn't the only time. Ali at Spurs for example - the actual scorer clearly handling the ball on purpose to gain an advantage. Now if that happened yesterday there would have been outrage.
Feeling surprisingly well today thanks! The thing that really got me yesterday was seeing how much it meant to the players, the staff and the owner and the fact that they could share it with fans. It’s a bit different to when Wigan won it, say. We’re still a relatively expensively assembled team with international players and a big profile. We’ve had our run ins with FFP and plenty of scandal off the pitch. We’re being held up as model of how a club should be run now but we’re not whiter than white, I expect a fair few fans will be left cold by all this. I hope it does give other fans some sort of hope going forward though. What made this so sweet was that it was against a ‘big 6’ side. We can go toe to toe with any of them on our day and other than Liverpool and Man City we have players, an identity, a coach and a style better than those of Arsenal and Spurs and as good as Chelsea and Man Utd. I’ve been reading a lot of the reaction this morning and soaking it all in. One comment on a Chelsea forum jumped out at me though. ‘We should sign Ndidi and probably Tielemans too’. That’s the attitude of these clubs and their fans, so entitled. They’ve had so much smoke blown up their arses by the media that they will always regard clubs like ours as inferior. Damn good feeling. Special mention to Ben Chilwell. I’ve never particularly rated him as a player and I was thrilled that we got so much money for him and spent it on Fofana and Castagne. He got off to a bad start at Leicester. He genuinely bottled out of taking throw ins when we lost at The Den in the cup because Millwall fans gave him abuse. The Chelsea move was apparently on for half of last season and boy did it show. Completely disinterested for the rest of the year and then came out with a load about how much he wanted to beat us in the final and how he hated losing to us in the league (a game in which he was crap). Anyway, I’m rambling. Come on City! I Hope you guys can win a cup or qualify for Europe during this chapter after your promotion. Proper fans of proper clubs deserve their day in the sun. You and I know how we feel it differently to the entitled fans of plastic clubs.
I would swap the play-off semi-final win and Gino being alive for the success Leicester have achieved since.
I’m sure you’re joking but I’d take yo-yoing and seeing my team play in the odd final and occasionally creating ridiculous drama like that Deeney goal over being an Everton or Spurs fan.
It’s amazing how entitlement can become ingrained in these clubs and their (younger) fans , now they’ve become used to buying success. Man City were just the noisy neighbours before being given the finances of a small oil producing state; Chelsea had their moments but were in the shadow of Arsenal and Spurs before a billionaire Russian oligarch pumped gazillions into them. But the mood has changed with the ESL debacle, and neutrals and fans of smaller clubs will now be supporting all opposition against the so called Big 6, at least in domestic competitions. And they’ll all know what is thought of them when fans are back ... can’t wait. Congrats again.
Absolutely! I’ve often said Spurs must be the most dispiriting team to support: perpetually expecting success but never getting any. I suppose Everton are almost in the same category, although they are (now) not considered one of the big six who are expected to win trophies.
Another poor defeat for Everton at home. Only won about 2 home games all season and they were in front of a crowd I think.
You can laugh but this'll happen to us all in time. Imagine our semi final if the penalty had not been given.
Sorry, I appreciate it looks like I was saying you were the one calling it a conspiracy. I was meant to be referring to various comments on Twitter etc, but didn't make that clear! Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
Unlucky West Brom, good effort. I guess beating the Scousers just before you get relegated isn't for everyone.
My company director is a Leicester fan. Hardly says a thing about them, just the odd nice comment about Watford every now and again, very professional. Today is very different!
