Good. With a bit of luck he'll be forgotten about in a few months and the press can move on to their next target. The BBC contacting every club in leagues 1 and 2 for a response to whether they'd sign him is ****ing ridiculous.

If this bloke got any more publicity I'd be expecting a book deal and an appearance on Celebrity Big Brother to follow.

I doubt that as other than reporting on the fact he had been charged and then submissions in the trial anything else would have been Contempt of Court.

Errrrrrr, according to the 2pm R4 news it's on again and oddly: "...Oldham Athletic's sponsors have been advised to be prepared for a major announcement at a press conference later today..."

The way I see it, Oldham have taken a massive gamble here. If Evans wins his appeal and gets cleared, then they've played a blinder in signing him. Got a decent player for nothing, who will score goals at League One level and would be worth something in the transfer market.

However, if he does not clear his name, then they will have a convicted rapist, who has been tried in a court of law, and also still convicted after appeal, on their books.

How many fans this will alienate remains to be seen, but I doubt families, women or children will want to support the club. I can imagine the demographic stereotypical football fan who is white male between 18 to 30 will probably think it's just a bit of "banter" and forgive him, but there will be a large percentage who won't. It would slice through a community club like Oldham and could be very damaging, although maybe they think they can handle such bad publicity after the Lee Hughes signing and have become immune to it.

But when you consider all the sponsorship deals the club will lose and bad publicity the club will get, it hardly seems worth the risk.

He may help Oldham to get into the playoffs, but he may not. What is certain, it is hugely controversial and I would hate my own club to sign such a character as this, for all the baggage that comes with it.

The right thing to have done is for Evans to try and clear his name, as he is doing, or to admit his guilt, show some remorse and begin to rebuild his life before going back into football.

What he is doing is trying to play professional football once more before his name is cleared. IMO this is wrong as right now he is just a convicted rapist, with all the stigma that goes with it.

Personally, I don't believe we should be signing this guy. He has never performed at Championship level and his been out of the game for a long time.

I change my mind daily over this issue, and I don't mind admitting such. Tonight Talksport had an Oldham supporter phone in, (probably one of many), and he was asking how he can continue to follow his club and take his kids to watch when they employ a convicted rapist? This wasn't some dumb celebrity, a publicity seeking politician or someone who doesn't know jack sh** about football, this was someone who was speaking as a normal football fan and a father and it was very powerful stuff.

It might be a good opportunity to tell your children that you shouldn't lok up to and respect people just because they play for your football clu, are in your favorite band, or in general are relatively famous for being good at something.

I think its unhealthy to worship people who have managed to make it in life by being the best while ignoring the fact that they can be an awful person.

The thing that has stood out to me is that people think anyone will look up to an obvious low life because he can knock a few goals in in league 1.

How many of you, on a football forum can even name an Oldham player?
Has anyone also come round to the thinking that its actually alright to kick the **** out of someones head while they are on the ground since Deeney has become captain?
I certainly still think that what troy did was pretty horrific.

Any children going to Oldham games will become well aware at how people treat a convicted rapist quickly.

The trouble with that is, the Football League, the individual clubs and the players themselves promote players as role models. What is Watford FC In The Community if it is not precisely that?

Something they cannot not do, if you catch my drift. It's symptomatic a vicious circle anyway - kids look up to footballers, so they are obliged to enage with the community lest they look out of touch, whereupon more kids look up to footballers.

  12. Oldham deal off because of threats to club staff and their families. Some lickspittle opposition sports minister has also piped up urging Greg **** not to ratify his registration if it happens.

At least Troy has shown remorse and seems to have improved as a person. Evans still maintains his innocence and hasn't shown any remorse.

Another odd twist is that his prospective father in law offered to pay his wages if he signed for Oldham. Even if he he thinks Evans is innocent, to stand with him when he's betrayed his daughter in public is weird. I would expect my father in law to feck me off out of her life!

This is an absolute disgrace, it is nothing but a witch hunt

Apparently one of the threats directed at the powers that be at Oldham was that they would RAPE one of their daughters if they signed Ched Evans, how sick is that; they are just mindless thugs!!!

I really hope CE wins the appeal against his conviction, if he does surely he would have some sort of case for deformation or slander against all these witch hunters? Furthermore even if he doesn't clear his name, I wonder whether he might be able to take his case to the court of Human Rights to stop the persecution he is receiving and perhaps be able to sue the perpetrators?

Ched Evans should put aside his quest for a professional contract until his case is resolved. Whilst I utterly despise the mob culture adopted by people in this country, he has certainly added fuel to the fire by seeming so keen to get back into football whilst his case is still under review, and perhaps that suggests he isn't too confident in the review's findings.

Regardless of the dispute over his crime, as long as he is 'convicted rapist Ched Evans', this won't go away. Even though it should.

So the social justice mob, disgusted at the idea that Ched Evans might resume his career after being released from prison, combat this by issuing death threats and rape threats against named family members of Oldham's leadership infrastructure.

I'd laugh, but it's pretty clear that the mob mentality that social media is nurturing is extraordinarily dangerous and stupid. The sheer hypocrisy of opposing the employment of a man convicted of rape by issuing of rape/death threats against the family of his prospective employers is beyond comprehension.

The right decision from Oldham, in the end - it was easy to foresee the moronic death threats & abuse to their staff so the club is responsible for stirring that up as well. Imo they shouldn't have entertained the idea of employing a convicted rapist in the first place. It's the nature of the job, being in the public eye and therefore a role model for youngsters that's the sticking point for me. He could re-skill himself and get an alternative career out of the media spotlight.

Despite the supposed death threats though Greater Manchester Police have been unable to find a complainant at Oldham and therefore have nothing to investigate.

I've just realised that Dom Poleon plays for Oldham... He's that bad that they'd rather get a rapist to play ahead of him haaaaaaaaaa.

Slightly off topic but one of the aspects of this case that I just can't get my head around is the fact that Evans' girlfriend has stuck by him.

Isn't that often the way? Women prefer to blame the other woman than their man? Same as if the man has an affair it's somehow her (the other woman's) fault. It's been said the best jury on a rape case is an all female jury because women are harder on other women than men.
