Who are these supposed "best players", exactly?

The entire squad is basically completely rancid other than Pedro.

    Lol.

I’m actually quite self aware Burnsy. And other -people aware too. And I know who talks sense and who doesn’t. And Moog is just Moog.

And I don’t resort to trawling through WBA forums to make a case about Bilic. Either for or against.

Haha. I like your style Nath. And sometimes I even laugh.

Don’t shoot me but I think Louza is quite good (for example).

I didn’t trawl anything - there’s plenty of people on here who know and respect my connections,

And what’s more - so what if I did?! You’re trawling a Watford forum for opinions at 00:26! No doubt some great people on here have gone on Burnley forums tonight to get a flavour of things! What’s the problem in going on a WBA forum and typing ‘Bilic’ in the search bar to gauge the temperature of their feelings towards him?

If you want to point to something truly pathetic - how about we circle back to your post a week ago where you told me you ‘didn’t like what I was doing’ when I simply criticised Bilic’s management but proceeded to ramble on and liken it to racism and other such crazy statements?!

Last I’ll say on it. If you can’t make sense of your own idiocy purely because you have a hard-on for an underperforming manager, that’s on you.

Porteous can hold his head up high in the games so far - showing how good he is. Even if we don't go up, he needs to be part of our squad for next season. He's a breathe of fresh air in a backline that has been stale and aging for far too long. What we do need though is two midfielders, a right back, a striker and perhaps a new backup GK? Okoye is clearly surplus to requirements so I can see him being sold/loaned out in the Summer. At our core, we do have a decent squad, and including tonight we are starting to stand up and show it. But the awful mistakes in critical moments in games are killing any chance we have of success this season. Until we iron them out and get rid of all the dross in the squad I feel we may be a Championship side for a fair bit longer. Which of course, will please Gino to no end. I also think, if we lose at home to WBA next Monday, then lose at Sheff Utd Bilic is gone. That would be a dreadful run of games with no win.

I absolutely love watching Pedro play, such a great player and seems to be getting better and better.

Also very much enjoy watching Choudhury and Louza.

Absolutely gutted to see the decline of Sarr, I don’t think he’s lazy, doesn’t care or wants out. I just think he’s completely lost his ‘mojo’, has been over coached or is massively struggling with confidence. Couple of golden opportunities to run direct into an acre of space and he didn’t do it. Seems like a nice lad, I hope he can rediscover his ability.

Anyway, thought we battled well, gutted obviously with the end, but some positives out there.

Oh and I hate Ashley Barnes with a passion. Total *******

Must admit that our CB improvements have given me a smidge of optimism for the rest of the season. You can't play (or indeed watch) with confidence if you don't trust your defenders.

There were definitely some good things on show today although most of them were unrelated to Bilic (Hoedt and Porteous who he didn’t want for one). But that’s two points dropped, and due at least in part to Bilic’s subs. Louza should have been the first sub as a means to get some control in possession - by the time he came on there was no hope for that. Davis coming off meant that nothing would stick up front. And as soon as Kabasele came on you knew there’d be a 94th min equaliser. All of our fans knew it would happen but Bilic for some reason couldn’t see that bringing off our biggest in possession outlet (having removed the other one - Davis - shortly before) might invite pressure and lead to more opportunities for Burnley.

His subs in the last three games have each turned the game in favour of the opposition. And he set us up today as if we were facing City at the Etihad - despite the personnel available.

How much longer does his free pass last? First it was the injuries, presumably now it will be getting the players up to speed/the difficulty of facing sides with similar quality squads to us (that are properly coached), maybe then it’ll be the lack of a pre-season.

Hopefully Manga has sounded out Hutter or Hassehuttl already.

You literally responded to my post and made a crude play on calling me a f*cking pr1ck. I’d say in this instance, that I’m more than entitled to a right of reply that points out what a complete weirdo you’re being.

If you think that’s me being ‘riled’ and not just me calmly sat here typing out calm responses to how much of an idiot you’re showing yourself to be, good for you.

Thought we defended well, didn’t give them many clear cut chances after we went ahead, apart from the corner where Ken decided to head towards goal rather than away but you could always sense their goal was coming, just absolutely gutting it came the way it did but as one poster said, at least it came in the last minute rather than 10 minutes before as we’d have definitely lost if that happened (sentence and a half that).

Bachmann should’ve cleared the 6 yard box for the goal but we’ve grown accustomed to his decision making now. Thought Gaspar had his best game at right back for us, 2 centre halves were good but Porteous is mighty slow, cracking ball into a dangerous area for our goal though. Hoedt’s behaviour with Barnes was embarrassing but also slightly satisfying to see a bit of s**thousery from one of our players for a change. Kamaras best game for a long long time.

Choudhury superb, man of the match by a mile, Kone was alright but a bit quiet, Ken put in a usual championship Ken performance and was solid.

Sarr reluctant as usual to run past his man when he had half the pitch in front of him, infuriating, would personally drop him for next game. Pedro, as per Ken, we know what we’re gonna get from him, gonna enjoy these last 15 or so games with him in our shirt. Davis invisible, as is, again frustratingly, becoming the per.

Good point against the best team in the league this season, should’ve been 3, based on this defensive performance when we clearly played for a 1-0, small chance of us squeezing into the play offs but ultimately what’s the point, we won’t win them, let’s just throw the games against other contenders to ensure the scum don’t get there and enjoy Pedro whilst he’s here coz it won’t be for much longer. Not overly arsed about the rest of the season, have said for a while to mates we’ll finish 8th so can we please just play some exciting football occasionally and do the double over them lot up the road.

For those defending Bachmann, take a look at our defence when we’re next facing crosses and high balls into our penalty area; Bachmann’s indecision/flapping puts the fear of god up them. You could see Choudhry also trying to get him to stop aimlessly punting balls up to their goalie to allow them to continue putting pressure on us, but Bachmann wouldn’t listen.

Would have taken a point before the game but I thought that Sarr's performance was a ****ing disgrace. We effectively played against the best team in the league with only 10 men.
We had a break on in the second half with 3 against 3 and Sarr stopped running with the ball, turned back on himself and slowly fell to the ground to try and get a free kick when there was clearly no foul.
He needs to be dropped for someone who will play for the team.

    Also, Barnes is a ****.

I think if it wasn’t for a lack of fitness Pedro might have stayed on but probably was predictable Kabasele would come on a a defensive sub .

Good to see some defenders who won’t be bullied by the opposition though .

Pretty joyless football at present. Mix of a crap group of players and a coach that's all talk.

I like the fact we have a centre half pairing to build from, but frankly the rest I couldn't give a fark if they left.

Special mention for Sarr, who I'm beginning to absolutely loathe. He's an automatic pick amongst a horrendous group of wingers, and he knows it. Can't wait till I haven't got to see him playing week in week out

I thought we defended really well last night. We were under a lot of pressure for most of the second half, but defensively I thought we were excellent. Porteous is a breath of fresh air at the back, which looks far more solid since his arrival. Choudary, Pedro, even Gaspar, I thought were all excellent.

But for me, I think Sema needs a special mention. I think he is better than he looks. No frills, no spills and can go unnoticed with the flair players in the team getting the attention. He always works really hard and is a good asset for the team.

Headline from Bilic 'This has to be the standard now'

What farking standard? We were barely passable against, frankly, an average side that's got a coach getting the best out of them.

There's lots of problems with the club, but Bilic isn't the man to move us forward

    Morning Burnsy.
Glad to hear you’re not riled. And thanks for pointing out that I am an idiot and weird. For the record, I don’t think you’re an idiot for thinking that I was calling you an f’n prck. You either misunderstood or deliberately twisted the sentiment of my mimicry.

Thanks also for crediting me with a ‘hard on for Bilic’. Like most Watford fans, I’ve learned not to get too excited. I remain flaccid about Bilic until he is given time with a full squad. Which means I’ll probably have to get my kicks elsewhere.

This is the comment just before he said 'this has to be the standard':

"But tonight also shows what we can do. If we come into every game with same spirit, the same organisation, the same attitude, the same mentality – and then add a bit more quality – we can achieve a lot."

I think he's right about attitude etc. But we know by now this squad can't do it consistently. My bet is they'll put in a good show of it against WBA and Sheff Utd and then return to bang average as soon as a must win game against a beatable opponent arrives.

Completely agree about Sarr, except that I don’t think he has declined. He has been inconsistent and underperforming throughout his Watford career. There’s a lot of abuse for him on here now, but I’m convinced he has a real mental problem in relation to his game. I think he needs to be rested from the team now that others are available, perhaps for the rest of the season. Then he needs to make a fresh start somewhere else, probably in France.

He’s got one very good weapon in his acceleration and pace and currently doesn’t try using it which he used to. But overall, I agree with you. Be amazing to get £20m for him in the summer. Although if scouts are watching that’s looking highly unlikely now.

  27. Lloyd

Of course it was very frustrating to concede in the way we did with a few seconds left, but I thought we played really well and, for the first time in quite a while, we seemed to have a game plan and, even more encouragingly, everyone seemed motivated (except Sarr, who drifts around like his mind's on other things).
Porteus and Hoedt look like superb additions - shame they didn't arrive six months ago. I'm not exactly optimistic that we'll make the play-offs but I'm far less pessimistic about our chances than I was before last night.
    Ashley Barnes.... dear me

As someone rightly pointed out on Twitter, it wasn't Gaspar's man. He was marking a different player, not Foster who got the touch at the far post. Porteous was marking him but seemed to get distracted by the unmarked keeper flying in so went to try and win a ball he was never going to, leaving his player completely free at the back post.

But of course, the ball never gets there if Kabasele doesn't get beaten for the first header. Martins was also to blame, initially he was picking up the keeper then decided to take a few steps forward and leave him with no-one picking him up.

Just because Gaspar ended up closest to the ball, doesn't make it his fault.

Last night wasn't the best but I actually believe that we saw a team out there with an objective and a pattern of play that we hadn't seen for some time. Yes retaining the ball was still an issue but it was more the team ethic of fighting for the ball, winning it high up the pitch with a higher press than previous but for once it wasn't 11 individuals performing. This I think can be something to build on but that needs to start now as we are running out of games. Bachmann's distribution and Sarr's lack of belief/care are still problems.

I think Sarr has just lost his way and lost confidence. In this division he's taken a lot of kicking and not had much protection from the Refs generally.
Add to that his belief that he's the next best thing with an agent who's probably always in his ear, and I just don't think he's got any fire in his belly whatsoever.
He's fast with big talent but he's just one of those you'd label "very good potential in the right team but not able to cope with the championship".

I actually thought Bilic got it spot on in the first half and clearly done some work on how Burnley play. The subs he made in the second half made sense apart from keeping Sarr on the pitch. I think the jury is very much out but there has been an improvement in the last couple of games which has coincided with the return of injured players. I totally understand when you say we didn't have plans in previous games and it's not all about injuries but not having, Pedro, Louza, Sema, Davis etc makes a massive difference especially when replaced with TDB, Bacuna, Gaspar in midfield (in fairness he did ok). We've also massively upgraded centre backs. The summer business is what has completely screwed up this season. I feel he should stay until the end of the season.
