?

Moor shameful display?

  1. We outclass and humiliate a limited Burnley with a clean sheet and 3 or more goals

  2. We outfight and frustrate a limited Burnley with a professional win but a slender margin

  3. We grind out a goalless draw with a clean sheet at last

  4. We battle hard but fall to a last gasp goal by their substitute from a set piece

  5. We are outfought and out thought by a limited Burnley who see us off in a comfortable 1–0

  6. We completely crumble to a limited Burnley and lose by 3 or more

  7. The game is postponed because of Covid

Yeah, I think the misuse/misunderstanding of how and where to use air quotes is probably my favourite little detail.

Hahaha. What self indulgent nonsense. I’m not a mere fan. I am above that!

So someone who went and got behind the team, and was most definitely not "buzzing" after sitting/standing for two hours during a cold, wet and windy night up north to watch that rubbish, is merely a fan and not a supporter because he doesn't share this person's wildly optimistic viewpoint? Or can he still be a supporter even as an armchair fan if he "gets" it? I'm confused...

Yes, there is something (far from "so much" though) to build on - but far more that desperately needs improvement...

I mean, it's even funny in that 'it ain't gonna be pretty' and 'get our quality to shine' are surely mutually exclusive sentiments, in just the one sentence.

Unless he's referring exclusively to 1881 members and their charming displays of support, in which case I think we can all confirm the former, with the jury remaining firmly out on the latter.

Yeah I agree with this. One area he needs to improve is the ability to fire off a powerful shot in tight situations, currently they are very weak and don’t trouble the keeper. Yet he’s got the technical ability for sure.

I mean I actually agree it was a positive performance but he just comes across as a complete tool with his “mere fan” nonsense.

It certainly was Brain of Britain. Back to TV of course there was the incomparable 'Ask the Family'.

You'll remember, "...aaahhhh, and this one's for fathers and oldest daughters only; why the f*** did Craig Pawson fail to spot a blatant handball in the penalty area last night?"

Nice that RR opens in the clip above with a scalp reference given his penchant for the comb-over. Certainly for the more mature forumites, this will bring back happy memories. Burgess, Charlton and Robinson, 3 hair mousse-keteers in their pomp.

I thought that was a pretty good showing for Roy's first game. The gameplan and organization was immediately recognizable, albeit a long way from a finished product given he's only just arrived at the club. We already look significantly better drilled, though, and the shape was vastly improved.

It's going to take him time to install his methods so nothing to do other than wait and see if things continue to come together. Burnley were far from a good team yesterday so it's probably best not to be too excited.

Offensively we looked a bit blunt but I feel that was to be expected. Firstly, Roy is undoubtedly focused on the back line/defensive aspects of the game at the moment. Beppe said when he came in that the offensive play would come later, defence first. I suspect that's what we'll see here too. Secondly, with our two best offensive players out we don't have the depth to replace them, so both of them being back soon (hopefully) should be a welcome shot in the arm. Sarr and Dennis are both dangerous enough that clubs have been double marking them, so to have them on the pitch at the same time introduces a headache for the opposition. That can only be a good thing for us.

Whether or not Roy has enough time to engineer our survival remains to be seen, but I think we've significantly boosted our chances by bringing Roy and Ray in and hopefully we'll see further improvements next game.

Certainly not as optimistic as some on here as I thought last night was one of the worst games of football I've seen in a while. Conditions didn't help but boy was it bad.

I do think we'd of won though had we had Sarr and Dennis.

All these people saying this was the worst game of football for a while clearly did not go to the Leeds game.

I'm pretty sure everyone saying this means it was the worst spectacle they've seen Watford involved in. Leeds would have been a better game for the neutral, even though it was astonishingly one-sided and Leeds' finishing was crap.

And despite all of that, we still should have got a point (and a goal) out of that game!

On reflection, I think it was a good point at Burnley. I know they are bobbins at the moment but they are the sort of team that we would normally allow to bully us and we would contrive to lose to. However we showed a modicum of grit and a half decent press and surprise surprise it worked. For how long remains to be seen.
