Well I hope Ozan is, we haven't seen him yet!

Miraculously, we now have a set of quick forwards able to interchange positions. The thing we've been crying out for. We even have cover if one isn't available, and we have traditional centre forwards if we need to change tactics. Hence last week's optimism.

The only reason to play Ken instead of Cucho or King is his ability to track back. In which case, why was Gross, who's nothing special, able to put in cross after cross in the first half? Once Cucho was on, Brighton had to do some defending and that angle of attack disappeared.

And why did all our attacking players insist on putting in high crosses which were gobbled up by Brighton's tall defenders?

I hope Xisco noticed those things too.

  3. Currently sat on a nice terrace looking out on the ruin of the West Pier. Very congenial. And Smudger and TuT will be interested in this. It (the West Pier) is the site of a spectacular Starling roost (murmuration) in winter. And whereas most of those are located in some piece of forlorn country, where you need to freeze your 'b.llocks off, this one can conveniently be observed from indoors over a spaghetti vongole and a bottle of decent Argentine white.

    Partners love it.

Sema does work hard, but it's not as if Cucho is a shirker, and also has far more ability than Sema ever will, so I'm a bit perplexed by that! The Kucka that played against Villa is clearly a miss, nobody else seems to have that steel, although hopefully the various other midfielders we have at the club are able to offer something for us this season

One thing I did notice yesterday is that we seem to have quite a few fans who wear black and yellow Fred Perry shirts. I hope it's because they match our colours but more likely they're racist tw@ts.

Yes, you make a good point about learning quickly. I too thought how bad would it have been if the opposition were Liverpool or City or maybe Spurs next week? If teams press us as they surely will, especially after yesterday, it's no good strolling around at the back as if it's a pre-season friendly. With our pace up front it may actually be a good thing if opponent's press us but we need to look up, move quicker and play it early to forwards running in behind.

  7. Tel me more. Since when were black freds racist? I've never heard of it before.

The black and yellow version of it is the 'uniform' of the Proud Boys in America, but realistically I don't think you can infer anything from seeing someone over here wearing them, especially not to the football - Fred Perry polos have a history of association with footballing culture that infinitely outstrips that of the one they inadvertently now have with a racist semi-militia, and the overwhelming majority of people here will never have heard of them in the first place.

    Agreed.

I think Brighton are a 15-20 goal a season shy of being in contention for 'best of the rest'.

Almost every team in the league is that, given the number of strikers who ever score 15-20 a season in the Prem, to be fair.

  11. Ah ok thanks, I must be getting old I had never heard of it

Yet another ridiculous US culture thing that we don't need coming over here

Funny really, as Fred Perry's (black ones, white ones... ) have been a thing here since the days of ska, which was the product of Caribbean immigrant culture meets British working class

I still have one (I guess its now vintage) I think somewhere

Yes, thankfully there aren't really the same conditions to create much demand to import any of the Proud Boys, Patriot Prayer, Boogaloo Boys, or any other example of that particular type of insanely dumb shyt here.

Anyway, I guess I should go home now.

We were at The Fortune of War last week - did you go to The Shelter Hall for some food? Some good stuff there.

  17. Unfortunately not. May have looked through the window though. I'll bear it in mind for next time.

Just checked out one of domthehornet's food recommendations. Rotana. Moroccan, Lebanese, general middle eastern.

Unfortunately, I wasn't particularly impressed. Soft, vinegary olives and the same went for the stuffed vine leaves/dolmades/wanak inab. Not a patch on the similar Tarboush in Market Street, Watford.

Best bowl of olives recently? Opuz Kitchen, King St., Watford. By a stretch.

This may have been posted before however the Pozzos are like The Arse under Wenger in his last few seasons. Everyone can see the problems except Pozzo\Wegner .
Who didn't know Gray was not good enough ? Who doesn't know Troost is a liability in possession ?
If I\We know then Brighton et al know . Cleverly was chucked under the bus by a shyte square pass
Surely no square defensive passes is a youth football basic ?

Down at the front, near the goal.

Same - we were about 6 rows back, almost immediately behind the goal - just to the right. Wonder if we’re talking about the same group of Neanderthals?

  24. I can assure you the Brighton West Pier one was excellent and very comfy too. Well it was three years ago anyway!

Sounds like it, I was in the 2nd row just to the right of the goal. They were in the third, immediately behind me.

We saw one a few years back in Cornwall from the car park by the RSPB Marazion reserve opposite St Michael’s Mount. Not a huge one but still great to see live.

Yup that’s them - they were just to the left of us, in rows C - E. An embarrassment, the lot of them.

So you lived in Kelso, then Cley, so where’s this “High Street”? Are you moving location each time simply to support a new WFC Forum user name ? :)

  29. No. But I did live in Kelso for 18 months (and when I joined this forum). A lovely wee town unfortunately full of racists.

I have only ever visited Cley. Regularly. Although I did live in 'the barn' at the weekend in the 70s. A tin hut full of straw, rats, birding hippies and recreational drugs. And on occasion in the 'mattress room' at the George Hotel which the landlord had kindly provided. He wasn't best chuffed when a birding wag (also a Spammer) chucked his (the landlord's) duvet out of the upstairs window and it landed straight on top of a passing lorry and got carted off.

The High St. is Watford High Street. Very near to where I currently live.

Probably right. Although it does seem to me that he sometimes anticipates shots a bit too early and doesn't wait long enough. With Brighton's second he did that, and if he had stood still and kept tall might well have saved Maupey's shot. Easy for me to say, of course.

A top corner, high quality finish from McGinn. A penalty. A top corner, high quality header from Duffy. A fast, unexpected 1-1 due to a WTE / Cleverley error.

No keeper is saving McGinn's or Duffy's while a penalty is always stacked against a GK (And Bachmann has a good history of saving penalties) whilst the 1-1 left very little time to set himself and prepare due to the nature of the error.

Watched it again for some reason and the amount of individual errors is shocking especially from our back four. Adam Webster there centre back waltzed past Sema and Masina with absolute ease. Kabs with his usual meltdown. Cathcart nearly puts one on a plate for Brighton and as I expected WTE was an absolute liability. Totally misjudging the corner for the first and his joyful pass to a very slow Clevs for the second. Again the defence will be our downfall with those clowns in the starting 11.

  35. We were second best to Brighton on Saturday. But their first went in off the underside of the bar and the second was a gift.

    Could have ended differently then.
