Sky have ballsed up my Berko half plans by moving the game that weekend to the Sunday. Very annoying.

Damn, hadn't even thought about that. Not signed up for Berko either so just as well.

I'm going to have a crack at the London Royal Parks half in October, I think the ballot is open tomorrow

This is exciting because less than three months ago, I could barely manage 2.5k and would ache for two days after, but I shifted a load of weight, and am now tearing up 10k for fun!

Good luck. London has many great running events which I do miss living so far away

Good luck with that. Last year my daughter ran the vitality 10K through central London and we went and watched, the atmosphere was amazing, I'd suggest that. I might even go for it myself.
Similar to you, I'm getting further each time now with an 8k run yesterday. Not long ago I was having trouble running 150 paces without having to stop so am also amazed how how quickly the body can learn and change, (though I ache like **** today).

I've done the Vitality 10k twice and whilst its a good atmosphere, its so packed that it's almost impossible to run at times, especially as some of the streets are so narrow. There was a lot of pushing and shoving and I saw some girl shove a bloke to the ground.

Anyone done the Great North Run? I've been back on running since last April and steadily increasing my distances and wanted something to work towards. I lobbed my name into the ballot for this year and got through.

It's a great event but really busy & a hectic start depending which colour pen you start in. Good support all through the route. Downhill start so tempting to fly off then mile 8-10 is a gradual increase. Start & finish nowhere near each so plan ahead. I did it 5 years on the bounce & loved everyone.

It's quite hilly. Actually I've been running up more hills now so hopefully will be better.

So I found something out today. Doing 5K's I've never needed the toilet. Doing 10K I was busting for the last 3 or 4K. Don't drink so much before hand!

Done it before? Hotels already crazy expensive. Should have really looked before I got the nod in the ballot...

First time for me (although was supposed to do last year but injury forced me to defer). I know some people stay somewhere like Durham and get the train in the morning. By all accounts afterwards is a bit of a 'mare as everyone is trying to get the metro out of South Shields and it's absolutely packed.

I drank so much before I did the marathon in Vienna that I had to stop and have a massive p*ss within 1km of the start.

Did my first ultra this morning. It was supposed to be a 6 hour challenge round a track but I only made it to just over 5 hours. Still managed 31.19 miles though. I'm now broken.

Great effort, i've made the step up to Ultra marathons this year but struggling to find the time. That mileage is very impressive.

I can't find the time either. I've got another in May (and might sneak one in April) but resigned to the fact they won't be quick at all. I'm confident of finishing them but I won't get anywhere near the distance done in training. As soon as I go over 35 miles a week I also start to get too many little niggley injuries.

Have you got any ultras booked?

I've got a 40 mile one in May then the major one which is Endure 24 in Leeds at the end of June. The attempt is 100 miles in 24 hours.

Sounds good. I was looking at doing the Spitfire Scramble as a solo runner this summer (it's the same sort of thing as Endure 24). I did it last year in a team of 4 and completed about 36 miles in 24 hours. Running at 3am with no sleep was a different experience...

I'm signed up for Manchester marathon with the wife and a couple of mates but it will clash with the semi final if we beat palace...

I really want us to win, not least as then I have an excuse to drop out. I've not trained nearly as hard as for the one I did I Vienna last year and the wife has even less as she's doing teacher training and has no time.

I'd forgotten how time consuming it is and I've also got a thigh strain that I've had for over 6 months.

Being over 40, it's horrible to feel your body slowly getting past it. Had to give up karate as I just couldn't physically manage half of it anymore.

I've been training for Salzburg half and planned the trip with a load of mates, including a night in Munich afterwards to re-hydrate. It dawned on me on the way to Wembley yesterday that I best check the date of the FA cup final...and it is the day before Salzburg. Flights already booked for 7am on Saturday morning. Not a chance I'm missing the cup final, but I do need to try and find a Saturday night flight from London.

Did anyone else do this today? I quote enjoyed it. The kids did a 1k fun run beforehand. It's a good local event.

Did my first Ultra Marathon this weekend which was 40 miles through Sherwood Forest & Clumber Park, apart from going the wrong way at mile 39 & doing an extra mile it was quite a good event. If anyone is PB hunting a half marathon then the North Lincs half every 1st weekend of May is a certain. An absolute flyer of a course fast & flat.

I'm getting to the point now where I'd like to spend a bit more on some decent running gear. The running shoes are the only thing I've spent any decent money on so far. Sports direct is sh*te and running world in Watford offers very little choice. So where do you runners go for your shorts, shirts, running kit etc?

I got a few wintery running bits from Decathlon. Big shops, large range, fair prices. I’m sure some would say go independent but obviously there’s a cost to that.

If you're in shape, and you have cash to burn try Lululemon. Their gym stuff probably looks nicer on than any of my regular t-shirts. I tend to wait for a sale though.

I mainly buy my stuff from Wiggle, Decathlon and Runners Need. I tend not to over spend on things like tops and shorts as I'm only going to sweat in them! Basic Adidas stuff generally does me. The only time I've spent a bit more is gear for ultras but it needs to stay comfortable for a very long time.

Thanks for the replies all. Managed to get to Decathlon in Staples Corner for some nice lightweight clothing. I can throw out the Watford FC shirts & shorts now, (that's another story).
