Every government has had one. ASBOs, super ASBOs, tagging - anything they can think of. They've cracked down and then they cracked down again. Now it is to be £1000 fines for graffiti. Community payback in Guantánamo-style orange jumpsuits. Humiliation and financial ruin! Put 'em in the stocks and flog 'em! That'll sort it out.
Good caller on LBC - a serving police officer of 20 years. He said the NOS 'problem' has greatly diminished (and tbf I haven't noticed the little cannisters anywhere near as much over the last several months) - and concluded that the proposed ban is an attempt to hoodwink the public that Strong Government has led to this. In fact, the main issue would appear to be littering anyway, for which we have perfectly adequate laws already. It's another culture war attempt.
Sophy Ridge asks Michael Gove if he, as a former cocaine user, is going to give people a criminal record for using NO2. https://twitter.com/saulstaniforth/status/1639896173874905088?s=46&t=oqOMSJXE_g7J5C7kNPG9LA
Mrs Lloyd insists I wear a hi-viz velcro vest thing when I walk the dog in the dark. Will people think I've got an ASBO now?
The whole thing's cobblers. It smacks of being a product of 'things wot Tory focus group attendees tell us they're tutting about today' policy making. In particular the idea of marching offenders back to the scene of their crime to make it good within 48 hours is ridiculous - thanks to Troy cuts the police don't have the resources to respond to most of this stuff within 48 hours, let alone close the file on it and get it fixed in that time.
Show of hands, who believes this happened? https://twitter.com/leeandersonmp_/status/1640219054702034945?s=46&t=oqOMSJXE_g7J5C7kNPG9LA
"Landlords are to be given new powers to evict problematic tenants with two weeks’ notice under government proposals to address antisocial behaviour. The measures would cover tenants who play loud music, use drugs, cause damage to their property or fall behind on their rent." Nice broad range of excuses there for landlords to use if they want rid of someone. With so many people, especially the young, having to private rent these days, more powers for landlords to summarily kick their tenants out on their arses with just 14 days notice are just what the country needed!
