He was born in Germany, so maybe he feels more German than English, even though he was brought up in sarf London. Such things depend on the individual of course.

Yeah, indeed - there was a very interesting article in the Athletic a couple of months ago about this exact phenomena - they centred the piece in part around a particular young player who you will almost certainly never have heard of who was eligible for four different nations including England, the reasons for his eligibility to each of them, and the choice he eventually made. As I said, a fascinating insight into that kind of thought process in the modern game.

Also, I wonder if Baah is still in touch with his German roots? Musiala grew up in both countries, the Nmechas have played in both countries, but Baah came here when he was young and played for Palace then in the lower divisions

I think Ikechi Anya was eligible for four nations as well.

    England, Scotland, Nigeria and Romania.

I believe so, born in Scotland but grew up mostly in England, though I'm not quite sure what the rules are on Home Nations players born in one country but who grew up in another without any ancestry there!

You just described Raheem Sterling, among others - residency is another route to eligibility. I think the gentleman's agreement between the home nations is that it must come as youths/can't be earned as an adult, but that's it (unless you're talking solely about home nations in both senses, although I can't necessarily see why that would make a difference).

Yeah, I think it's different when the two nations are both Home Nations, Jordan Rhodes was born in England but thanks to his Scottish upbringing played for them, but I remember former England Under 21 player Andrew Driver wanted to play for Scotland for the same reason but had lots of bureaucratic hoops to jump over and I don't think he ever did play for Scotland

He's surely got more about him than Ken Sema.

Don’t know why we decided to waste 6 months of his development. Didn’t even play him in the rotated cup team ffs.

Hopefully he joins a decent League One team (not Doncaster) in January and tears up the league.

Anyone know what Ranieri is like with young players? Could he get a chance during afcon?

He doesn't seem to have quite the same electric pace which Sarr has though - albeit not many players do, which is a major reason why he's so valuable.

They (can't remember if 'they' was someone official or Leventhal or whoever) said they wanted to keep him at the club until January to assess his level. I don't necessarily think that's a terrible call. Or rather, it doesn't seem to simply be down to the historic failing of simply not finding him a place to go leaving him stuck in the U23s.

Makes sense to keep him here after we sell Sarr to the Geordies for £50m in January

Baah scoring 2 in 2 for Germany U19s but couldn't get any minutes against Stoke. Another reason I'm glad Xisco has gone, the guy kept Sema on for 90 mins.

In fairness, we're doing a much better job of finding loans now, I don't see why we couldn't have loaned him to a top end L1 club

If he's scoring multiple goals for Germany u-21s, I don't really see why he couldn't have dealt with a Championship loan, theoretically.

Ffs he's gone and fractured his ankle. Hopefully back in time for a January loan otherwise it'll be a whole season wasted at the kings of youth development Watford FC.

As someone who has an ankle op in a few weeks time, I can safely advise that Baah is finished.

My one ankle operation ended up with me having surgery eight times! Tore the ligaments playing on a ****** potholed pitch. I went from simple keyhole surgery to two replacement ankle joints resulting in a bone fusion with a piece of metal with metal rods and screws holding it all together.
Not sure what kind of surgery you're having but be extremely careful in your recovery. It has ruined me mentally and physically. It's a weight loading joint that needs looking after.
Finally listen to your body in recovery and not the so called professionals they don't always get it right.
Not trying to freak you out :p

The latest injury update said he was back running outside. Hopefully he’ll be fit enough to go out on a League One or Championship loan for the second half of the season.

I like him as a player.

    He’s a bit like a deeper Chalobah.
