Very different players. Shouldn’t be one or the other.

Could be true. A big difference between La Liga and the PL can be time on the ball. Whether his speed of play and first touch are up to scratch should be evident on the training pitch. If they are, get him some minutes this week. If they aren't, sell him.

He’s not too old. He’s considerably younger than the guy he replaced.

Fine - old as in no scope for improvement. Quina, for his shortcomings, still has potential. I’d take that over someone who is highly likely to not be up to standard.

Perhaps both characterisations are too simplistic. I honestly don't know what Louza brings to the table at all though, either, so how various midfield combinations might shake out is unclear to me. I guess my point is that good managers focus on what players can do and put them into positions where they can do those things vs. trying to arrange an El Alamein set-piece battle where everyone has a specific, unchanging role. So if there's a scenario where (for example) Cleverley comes off and Quina goes on, but other player's roles change a bit, that could be fine.

Are you talking about Granada, because it doesn't seem like any top flight teams (other than Udinese, who for obvious reasons don't really count) have been interested in him this window

That may be, but he's showed signs of slowing down in his 30s which Kucka does seem to have yet

If we continue to play as we did at the weekend, then yes, it is difficult to see how Louza fits in, but it is early days, we're gonna need a plan A, B and C, and after all, I don't think a young lad who impressed in Ligue 1 last year, who we bought for a fair whack is going to be left in the cold

Can people stop talking about Gosling v Quina .

They are not competitors for the same role on the pitch and therefore not competing for a squad place .

Saying Gosling is currently better than Quina isn't a ringing endorsement of the former, by the way. It's more a comment to say that Quina is so, so far away from any body of evidence to suggest he can cut it as a Championship or Premier League footballer.

Agreed. I don't see how he offers more than Quina, either (especially if Quina gets more freedom)

They are both generally the most advanced midfielders in a 3 though, albeit they play the role a bit differently.

Yeah kinda . But Goslings role now is to replace Cleverly on 70 mins in the high press, tactical but limited technical ability role , whereas Quina is more of a playmaker with limited defensive skills , although who really knows as he’s never displayed enough consistency to hold down a place , even on the bench .

According to Footy Insider (the one that said Kucka was out for 3 months) Bournemouth are lining him up.

I think we should be asking for 5 mil. Make sure whoever takes him will play him and play him with other good players. Muff would be a good place for him if they pay big.

Not sure we'd get a decent fee but we absolutely should insert a sell-on clause just to cover the 15% chance he actually turns into a decent player.

If we're only being offered £5m for Hughes why would anyone offer the same for Quina?

If it's Muff it should be £10m.

Younger. More exciting. Plays the game in a different way.

The demand for substandard, at-ceiling, spoiled, easily injured DMCs is lower than that for inconsistent, mediocre, young, goalscoring AMCs.

We bought Louza for 8M, and Quina is a less-good Louza.

Given how little he’s played for us, I’d be happy with about £2m and a sell-on. Double what we paid and get long-term benefit when he realises his potential in a more nurturing environment.

But still out of contract in a year with barely any experience at Championship level. We'll do well to double the £1m or so we paid for him a few years ago.

Not sure you can sell a player permanently AND then demand the buying club play him. That’s up to them surely?

I’d be interested to know the terms of one-year option. If we can enforce it unilaterally, we should be doing that to maximise our bargaining position. I suspect we can’t though given it’s not been done yet and he is already into his final year.

We won’t be getting £5m for him either.

Better phrasing would be "I think we should be looking for max. 5 mil. Find a club who will probably play him. (etc.)"

From what I've seen of Quina I can't help feeling that it would be a bad move to let him go, I think we would live to regret it.

Getting him off the wages, free up a slot plus a sell on clause would be a good deal. any fee a bonus IMHO

Let’s face it , he’s nowhere near the first team now we ve signed quality CMs , but is obviously a talented player he needs to play regularity to develop his ability to its full potential which may well be Prem level in the future but not right now .

He will never develop as a player with us as he isn't good enough to play, and doesn't want to go on loan

    So, bye
