There's another Samuel Kalu who plays as a striker in their domestic league. Funnily enough, he also looks like he had a very hard paper round... Edit: See the first page of this thread where I made the same joke. I'm nothing if not consistent...
I’m not saying Kalu is better than Sarr . I agree he needs to prove he can do this regularly and when he’s a starter . But I would like to see Sarr beating his man more . He doesn’t do it enough.
Give him time. He will come good. Unfair to expect a young prospect to be able to step in for 90 mins at this early stage in his career.
He had shown in the previous games he was great coming on late in games. Not sure he is good enough to start but I don't think we can judge him on yesterday's game. The supply from back to front was awful so none of the forward players could show what they could do.
You are wrong. I was told this chap was the guy we could point and laugh at all the negative people on the forum because he's amazing? I heard all the managers who never put him anywhere near the squad were wrong and it definitely wasn't just a signing to benefit Pozzo's associates?
Are people seriously writing him off again after his first start ? Almost every player was poor yesterday . I shouldn’t really be surprised by that on this forum Though .
Yep. I thinks it’s called confirmation bias. Look for anything that supports a previous held view and ignore anything that points in the other direction. It cracks me up to be honest, but yes this forum is absolutely stuffed full of it.
He was bought last winter for several million, ignored by a succession of managers and then was poor when he started. He was signed to appease the owners agent friend. See also Bayo. It’s not hard to see why he is being written off. The fact fans like you will constantly defend these types of signings is part of the reason Pozzo treats this club with such contempt and uses it for his own means.
Seriously ? Not every thread has to be pro Pozzo /anti Pozzo! I’m not defending the signing or otherwise . This is a thread about Kalu. I’m basing my judgements on what I’ve seen. He’s barely featured until now , He looked good coming on in a couple of substitute appearances and he didn’t do much of note yesterday. So I’m merely commenting he’s not necessarily a ‘dud’ . He could still significantly contribute to our season . Or maybe he won’t but I’m not writing him off . But of course you are right it’s all down to ‘fans like me’ who type words on a football forum that the Pozzos treat us with such contempt as opposed to fans like you I guess…who type different things on a forum . It makes all the difference of what we are typing. You are truly deluded if you really believe that it !
He’s clearly a dreadful signing not done in our interests. And the more people point out this repeated Pozzo activity the better. You are right social media sentiment is a minor contributor in the grand scheme of things - but fans justifying this sort of nonsense doesn’t help in my view. We should be unified in our condemnation of what is going on, but I’ve given up on our fanbase to be honest, so all that remains is venting on here.
He wasn't ever going to be a Hodgson type player signing that is fair to say or even Edwards. Bilic has probably taken a chance on Kalu now he is fit and hoping for the best.
It's hilarious, and honestly never gets old! If you don't write off a player after the equivalent of about 4 games, many minutes of which he showed a decent amount of promise, then you simply must be a stooge for the ownership. Because of course everything must be about the owner, or Mogi Bayat. Every result, every player, every fan that claps an away draw. Absolutely bizarre behaviour.
I’m not justifying anything . I’m merely commenting on Kalu’s performances so far . We are all aware of the issues with the ownership , but not everything everyone writes has to be related to this . I would say that comments on social media, unless it is from someone who has some genuine influence , have literally zero bearing on how the club is run. So please stop with this false superiority complex , merely because of what you type on a keyboard.
But ‘ fans like us’ who don’t make everything about the owner are the whole reason why the club is run how it is .
It’s not superiority. I think the owners are awful and I don’t understand why more of our fans don’t think that way. It doesn’t mean I feel “superior” - I just don’t understand the other viewpoint.
Surely when people look at a signing, they look at various factors: is it a position we need to strengthen, what do the fans of their previous club say, what were their stats like, does the player actually play regularly for us to a decent standard? Did we urgently need a back up winger when he was signed? No. What did Bordeaux fans say? Good riddance. What were Kalu's stats like? Pretty unimpressive - never made more than 15 starts in a league campaign at Bordeaux, never scored more than four goals in a season, had only made three starts the season we signed him by January. Has he played well for us? No, not really. A couple of five minute cameos doesn't really cut it. Put that all together and it's pretty clear we weren't signing someone on the up whose career was going places. He was a punt and one whose previous transfer to Bordeaux is one of the ones that Mogi Bayat is going to court for In fact, this charge was announced the week before we signed him and pertains to a fabricated document to make it look like he had played Nigeria u21 football when he hadn't. He then wasn't used in our relegation battle and has hardly been fit enough to be used in the Championship. There is a possibility that he will come good but at the moment, he is not a signing that has worked out. If you take the view that you can't judge a signing until they've had loads of opportunities, then presumably you can't say Obbi Oulare was a disaster - you never know, if he'd got on the pitch a bit more he could've been great, despite all the evidence to the contrary in the rest of his career...
Spot on. I made a similar point to your final paragraph last week, but I was told people knew Peneranda was a dud because of “reasons”. No need for consistent logic on the Watford forum.
Ok , but it certainly comes across that way when make comments about ‘fans like me’ … suggesting ‘ fans like you’ are somehow better
Do you think the judgement on Penaranda could have anything to do with his inability to make an impact in Belgium, Bulgaria, and the Spanish second division, while owned by us? I think most were prepared to give him a chance to prove himself beforehand, and the same courtesy should be given to Kalu, even if his agent is evil.
Some fans are happy with what Pozzo does and stick to their guns. I don’t understand that but it’s consistent. I’ve less respect for those who want to demonstrate after we lose and then are happy as pigs in muck again if we win a few games on the bounce!
Agree but I guess it depends what they're unhappy about ? If they're unhappy about the quality of the performances/squad/manager I guess a few wins can alleviate that ? If it's against the Pozzo ownership full stop then yes a few wins should change nothing.
Looks like Kalu is back to fight it out with Hungbo for a place on the bench. https://twitter.com/WatfordFC/status/1605624146372616192?t=gqA7dEPiOjU7KucLKPlv8w&s=19
Those mugs that wrote him off after nearly a year of zero contribution are about to have serious omelette on their faces.
Just a reminder that when we signed Kalu, we still had a fighting chance of staying up. But who did we choose out of all the tens of thousands of professional footballers in the world? The one whose previous transfer to Bordeaux formed one of the charges against Mogi Bayat that the Belgian prosecutors announced just a few days beforehand, namely that Bayat had bribed someone to forge documents about his u21 appearances. Presumably the Belgian prosecutors would want to talk to Kalu about this at some point - wonder whether he'd be more or less inclined to co-operate as a witness against Mogi after he sorted him out a 3.5 year contract at Watford? Which does rather beg the question - was the Kalu transfer was to benefit Watford or as a favour to Bayat?
