Watford are interested in signing Brazilian Centre-back, Lucas Beraldo. The 19-year old is also attracting interest from Udinese & Benfica. https://esporte.ig.com.br/colunas/f...esse-do-watford--benfica-e-udinese.html?Foto1 #Watfordfc https://twitter.com/VoicesOfTheVic/status/1633100800682602501 Don't know anything about him, but it's a yes from me
Lucas Beraldo is a 19 year old, left footed central defender who is 1.86 metres tall and plays for São Paulo. He has just started playing on a regular basis in Série A (although previously he has made a small number of first team appearances in various competitions) and he has played the full 90 minutes in his last 7 appearances. Beraldo is also an U-20 Brazilian international and he has been selected in the same squad as Matheus Martins. iG Esporte (a Brazilian sports web portal) claims that he has already started the process for an Italian passport (presumably through Italian ancestry) in preparation for his move to Europe. Transfermarkt values him at 1.5 million Euros, but another report mentions that he is under contract to São Paulo until 2026 and suggests that they would probably want five times that amount. The report in iG Esporte suggests that Benefica, Udinese and Watford have been closely watching Lucas Beraldo and that the Italian club have been monitoring the defender's situation over the last few months.
We can only dream that he can be as effective and comfortable in the championship as Neuton was for us, many moons ago.
Stand by for a bidding war between Watford and Udinese. Ending when one signs him and loans him to the other.
He scored a very offside looking goal for Brazil U20s vs Argentina recently: https://twitter.com/aspirantesSPFC/...ra-sub-20-lateral-patryck-tambem-foi-titular/ He's also played 130 minutes of 1st team football for Sao Paulo and managed to get a red card in that time.
I was mistaken when I wrote Série A because the Brazilian national tournament begins only in April. Lucas Beraldo has played 637 minutes for São Paulo's first team in the Paulista Championship, which is described as Série A1 first phase. He played the full 90 minutes in his last 7 appearances, but was not in the squad for the game against Botafogo on Sunday, 5th March. Lowerrous wrote that "He's also played 130 minutes of 1st team football for Sao Paulo and managed to get a red card in that time." That was last season when Lucas Beraldo was still only 18 years old and he made 3 substitute appearances for São Paulo in Série A during the second part of the year. He was sent off in the 91st minute of his final substitute appearance against Palmeiras (the eventual Série A champions). He also played 90 minutes for São Paulo's first team in their final Group D game of the Copa Sudamericana against Ayacucho (Peru). He was selected to be in the Brazilian squad for the South American U-20 Championship in Colombia (January/February 2023), but he was not released by São Paulo.
Weird, both wikipedia and whoscored have him down as only having played 130 minutes (spread over 3 appearances): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucas_Beraldo https://www.whoscored.com/Players/440085/Show/Beraldo
'wikipedia' and 'whoscored' do not appear to be up-to-date about Lucas Beraldo because they only mention his Série A appearances last season, but do not include his 90 minutes in the Copa Sudamericana last season nor his 637 minutes in the Paulista Championship this season. I know that Transfermarkt is not always reliable, but it does specifically list every appearance made by him (with minutes plus other details) in each tournament and for each season. iG Esporte also mentions his appearance in the Copa Sudamericana last season and that he has started playing regularly for the first team, but missed the last game for São Paulo on Sunday due to muscle discomfort.
