Not mentioning and showing the Hernanzez goal in their 'analysis' was a joke.

No it's a live video taken inside the Vic. See @Smudger 's post in the Watford vs Aston Villa match thread.

As far as I am aware this will be weekly thing, which is great because we can tell MotD to do one. ;)

Pundits will struggle to find anything to say with Deeney & Gray not on the pitch

The Big Match showed how it should be done. I really enjoy the "revisited" programmes on ITV4. Just 3 or 4 games and any chat is with the actual players or managers from the game.

No over payed presenters, pundits or stupid "detailed" analysis.

There were only 8 games to cover yesterday though. They could literally do 10 minutes per game and still have 10 minutes for dumb and dumber to give their "expert" analysis.

Apart from watching our game and switching over when it ended the new intro has the hart making a reappearance along with St.Mary's Church. Blink and you will miss it.

It really did come across as “crap, we don’t know anyone other than Sarr.” I think they even said it was him who made a poor choice of shot whilst showing an effort from Dennis. Beyond bloody hopeless. If you going to be a supposed “expert” pundit then at least try putting in an hour or so getting up to speed with teams. Usual clueless top 6 only knowledge BS.

Fair enough. I mean why would we even bother to watch it if our two star strikers weren't playing?

I’ve only seen the full match on sky which I watched again last night (to Mrs TuT’s irritation). The 30 min sky champ highlights were perfect and I’ve saved many on skybox but haven’t seen that length for the prem matches - do they exist ?

It’s always been a bit **** and unfortunately, like most other media outlets and shows, they simply don’t give a flying **** about covering the other 14 teams in the league. The constant churn and noise about the country’s six favourite clubs prohibits any actual insight or analysis about anyone else.

We’ve had our moments, some nice things were said about the owner and the club ethos after the FA Cup. But beyond that… Vardy = WUM. Maddison = Good player but won’t get an England call up until he signs for a big club. Schmeichel = His dad played for Man U. And that’s pretty much it. Imagine how little they actually know or are interested in a newly promoted club that isn’t Leeds. Deeney occasionally says something funny or candid and you sack your managers pretty often. It doesn’t even have to be true, that’s what Watford are now to them. It can be more flattering like Brighton having a great ‘philosophy’ or Everton being a sleeping giant but it’s all very broad strokes. More will be written about a possible Kane transfer than if we win a cup or if Watford qualify for Europe.

The problem with a lot of the BBC’s coverage is that it’s frozen in the mid to late 90’s. All of the pundits are of that era, you see with the obsession they have with Wenger’s Arsenal and players like Cantona and Gascoigne. They’re always asking Maddison about comparisons to Gazza, the lad was still in nappies by the time Gazza was at ‘boro! I couldn’t give a **** about any of that now but sadly that’s what we get served up. It will never change and while I find stuff like The Athletic too chinstrokey at least they are devoted to covering each team. MOTD, despite having an incredibly sexy and intelligent presenter in Sir Gary, just doesn’t lend itself to being nuanced or insightful about more than one or two games a weekend.

We had 13,000 fans in the ground according to MOTD and the Beeb’s online reporter said Vardy’s left foot volley was a header!

Can't stand Shearer's patronising explanation how every goal should have been prevented and at the same time how every promising attacking situation should have ended with a goal. I just can't bear the guy and the arrogant way he believes he is educating his audience.

I noticed Murphy had a similar way at the Euros when he was commentating. Anything that went wrong or didn’t work got ‘he should have hit the target’ or ‘he needs to pick a man out there’ etc. Every. Single. Time.

They get paid to come up with this ****.

Yes Murphy too. It's clear they watch the highlights and then spend 3 mins composing their thoughts. "You see x gets the ball there, and passes there, and y crossed the ball there, and z does well to beat his man there and score....great goal"....but defensively " A should stop x getting the ball there, B should stop him passing there, C should cut out the cross there, and D should get to that ball before z and clear it....terrible goal to conceded"....job done.

Pundit wise I found Michael Dawson incredibly irritating over the course of the weekend. He says a lot of words really quickly but nothing of any real meaning or sense.

I see none of our side made Garth Crookes "Team of the Week" full of top six bias. We played Villa off the park and Dennis and kucku had excellent cameos. Not one mention.

Made me chuckle on SkySports today they were talking about players who had a great debut and they said Ings. Marvelling at the quality of his penalty. I switched off after that.

That’s a shame, he’s hosting a gameshow on the Beeb soon.

Thinking long term, he’s the natural replacement for Attenborough too. I’d like to see him get The Sky at Night job and I see Huw Edwards is thinking of jacking in the news at 10….

Can’t get me enough Gary, top man, great dad, fit as a fiddle, all the right ideas on life really. Just a brilliant bloke.

Who keeps switching on the @Filbert-signal*?

*Very similar to the "Bat-signal" except it's a silhouette of a whippet wearing clogs and a cloth cap supping a pint of mild.

Love that people still get so irate at Match Of The ******* Day and Garth Crooks.

It's like having a weekly moan about the quality of the food at McDonalds.

I think you’re right. It looks like Sky have gone to full match re-runs now for the PL, probably following a tweak of the rights, which is a shame. The highlights on their app and website are only a couple of minutes each - basically goal highlights. So the best option for extended highlights of Watford games now seems to be the version they put on the WFC website. The current one is 13 minutes. This is taken from the syndicated feed that is used for overseas markets, but I don’t know if it’s possible to find this elsewhere for non-Watford games.

Thanks - yes the action in that clip is the same as on the BBC MotD tv prog I think with just a few more replays.

That is comedy gold. Our defence had the entire Villa forward line in their back pocket. Save for a bit of a worldy from McGinn and a brain fart penalty from Masina they pretty much posed no threat. F**k me they are truly and deliberately clueless.

Assuming you're being serious with your Lineker advocacy (I suppose being a Leicester fan plays a part, though didn't he last play for your club before you were born?), I seem to be very much in the minority among Watford fans in that I like (or used to like) him. He's intelligent, articulate, affable (surprised to hear that his non-TV persona is apparently quite different), I like his witticisms that he comes up with on the spur of the moment after every match/highlights and until recently incredibly youthful looking for someone approaching 60 (only the grey hair was a giveaway of his age). But now that age has caught up with him, he's become a bit of a parody of his former self, and that goatee and glasses don't look good on him. He needs to gracefully step down and let some other younger ex-pro with his level of wit and intelligence take over, no idea who that could/should be though.

Well, at least if he's commenting on England games, it's interesting to have someone who has experience of the pressure and expectations on the big stage, but we probably already have enough of that with Shearer, Ferdinand et al.

But if you're talking about MOTD only, then yes someone who's just knowledgeable and passionate about the beautiful game like Jeff Stelling would be fine.
