If there is one thing Troy taught me in his years at the club (and there is) it's how to put up your middle finger in the correct/cool way. This guy is not doing that, and it looks all the more pathetic for it - like a child desperately straining to get his finger out as far as humanly possible towards the offence - he's removing any potential power in the gesture by making it look like he's straining to be picked to answer a question a teacher has just posed.
That was one of a few false dawns sadly, the other two being the smashing of Liverpool and the win against Newcastle.
I asked my Mrs the same last night but did it in a way that she ended up choosing the sluttiest outfit she has.
Very happy with the win. Don’t care how bad the opposition were. Very frustrated with the stop start nature of the streaming service (that ******* circle thing is possibly the most annoying thing there is). Didn’t see the goals in real time and relying on good old Twitter and Mr Stelling to keep me updated. Going to have to sort it out for upcoming games. We have a chance of survival, certainly more than Norwich.
Xisco says Bachmann was dropped not injured, according to The Athletic https://theathletic.com/news/daniel-bachmann-dropped-for-watfords-visit-to-norwich/73vwRzV5q25K
Anyone mentioned Sissoko’s airkick immediately before the move that led to our 2nd goal? Nothing better than scoring a goal just after the opposition fans have been taking the piss.
In our situation, it is a great result, no matter what the opposition. Norwich have played well and been unlucky in two of the previous games at least, and have had a tough start. It would have been easy to have slipped up. But let's be honest we had no hyperbolic performances either positively or negatively, but we played more like a team than in our previous three games, and that is the real positive (other than the result, of course). The players are not used to each other, and things aren't instinctive or natural at the moment, as they need to think before acting. That will come with a bit more time playing together, under this coaching team. The best is yet to come, and we have more room to grow than most of our "competitors" in this division. I think I want want Bachman back, preferably with a defence that doesn't sit back so far when defending, I think Bachman would have been sprinting out, cutting down the options for their goal. Foster actually retreated slightly and it made Cathcart's error stand out. Pukki had the choice and time to do whatever he liked. Fosters distribution was good, but Norwich didn't make it as difficult as they didn't press like previous opponents. TBH, I am not certain who is best in goal, I am just favouring Bachman right now. But again, I thought overall the defence played OK. We are so quick to jump on every error, but the fact is, every defence in every team are making mistakes. We go on as if it is only our players that make errors. If players didn't make errors, they wouldn't be here. We will probably see a dozen defensive errors on MOTD, and they'll be any others we don't see. It happens. Highlights for me... Dennis's goal. Yes it was a good cross, but that was only because of Dennis's determination to get there. Deeney would still be standing near the back waving his arms in fury that the cross didn't reach him. That was the difference, the cross was no better than many Kiko and other players had put in over the past few years. King's general skill levels. He took the time to look up and see the cross for our second, and put it on a sixpence, whilst Sarr gambled on the near post. Gray would have been concentrating on trying to control the ball, he would have snatched at the cross. Disappointed King didn't scare our third, but the goals will come in my view. The move that started back near our own left corner flag in the first half, which saw us play out of a tricky situation, and ended with Rose putting Sarr through one on one with Kruell. That would have been a goal to remember.
I think we are all being a bit hard on ourselves (but I am a happy clapper) Norwich were bad, but i also believe that we played pretty well , a lot of flowing football, some great crosses in to the box and most of the time somebody actually in the box , we had three of four chances that on other days could have been goals. Maybe we made them look bad. last season in the prem I remember watching games where we didn’t have a shot on goal let alone score three goals I think this team has the potential to be a lot better than the season where we went down , we have already had two games where we scored 3 goals and have a number of players capable of scaring the opposition. We are no longer relying on Deeney upfront by himself we have three strikers capable of scoring at this level (assuming king is actually capable) + JP to come back. But the most important thing is we now know that if we go down the championship is more fun anyway , more games , less stupid kick off times, something to actually play for and we don’t have to play city twice a year. famous last words but I don’t think we will go down
Good result! I’ve been on the piss all day but I still had a check for your result. Narch will go down without a fight, you’re 1/3 of the way there
On reflection, very nice to see how Dennis attacked that cross in a way Troy didn’t in the last 3 seasons or so. Lots of attacking potential down the sides.
Pretty much how I feel. I know I am very down on Foster but it's not because I have an agenda about him. I do think Foster has severley declined in some aspects, but he does have facets to his play that is better than Bachmann's and vice versa. It depends I suppose on what traits we value more; a less able shot stopper who can come for more crosses and has that much more experience in handling situations but is increasingly indecisive or a more rounded, younger keeper who lacks experience and doesn't come for many crosses. On balance, I'd lean towards Bachmann overall but neither is completely clear of the other in all aspects of their play and I'd prefer we looked to source another No. 1 if Bachmann doesn't improve in the air. Also, Bachmann did have a leg strapping on around his knee. There was a photo taken which clearly showed it.
If Foster played against Wolves we probably get a point, if Bachmann played today, we more than likely keep a clean sheet, because I don't remember them peppering our box with crosses at all. Will it be a horses for courses thing I wonder?
Not only scoring the vital first goal and doing a summersault to celebrate but also beating himself at paper, rock, scissers
I don’t really get the ‘less able shot stopper’ thing. Not because I think Foster is great, but because I can’t see Bachmann is any better. Bachmann seems to be a routine save merchant to me. We need a new keeper next summer whoever ends up playing more this season.
Norwich were abysmal. The posts on this forum before kick off were abysmal. Watford were pretty good.
Bachmann will not improve in the air. He has never liked coming for crosses. He will not change. Foster and Bachmann are not the future for Watford, but Foster will give our very weak defence more confidence. Cathcart was awful today. He is just simply not good enough.
