Get in......Messi has signed a new 4 year deal and will stay at Barca for another 4 years. Very pleased with this.

His buy-out clause will be a mere £626m!!

You barsteward, when I saw this I really thought Gino had pulled off another coup.

I guess he'll just have to sign De Bruyne instead

Its mad money but you could say at least he "earns" it...

I mean in relative terms there will be multi millionaire footballers across the globe who never kick a ball in anger and earn 50/100k a week...

PSG can afford that. I heard Everton are interested as well and I can’t see him being able to turn them down

I hear we want to build up a good relationship with Barca..

Does Messi fancy a little trip to Hertfordshire- it's near London and we have a Spanish speaking coach for now..

Never seems to be injured ... we'd soon sort that out !!

Another impressive season for the maestro. Disappointed no doubt by his CL excursion but he has one thing on his mind this summer to try and win a major international title after defeats in three successive finals.

I asked him this the other day. He told me, "well Watford's good enough for Deulofeu, then it's good enough for me....why not".

Is this like the Suarez situation?

We have the other Luis Suarez.

    Tell me I’m wrong.

So the fifth best player in the world apparently. Popularity contests like the Ballon D'Or are a nonsense. Anyone who has watched football for some time knows in their hearts and minds that the best player of the last decade each and every year has been Lionel Messi. Fools like Pele and increasingly Maradona with their bitter sniping and laughable comments about him having only skill just show themselves up for what they are.

Another amazing 2018 despite another World Cup misadventure but you cannot allow for a coach to make such poor selections in players and tactics.

Europe's top five leagues in 2018-19:

    Most goals - Messi
    Most assists - Messi
    Most dribbles - Messi
    Most chances created - Messi
    Most free-kicks scored - Messi
Most key passes per 90 mins - Messi
Most goals from outside the box in the last decade - Messi (57 in total)

It will be a very long time perhaps another thirty years before we see the likes of him given that di Stefano emerged in 1947, Maradona in 1979 and Messi in 2007.

When football scouts and coaches around the world started to take note of the youngster from Rosario.

Those stats can't be maintained so maybe Barca will consider a straight swap for Gray + image rights to the Holebas Spring 2019 clothing collection?

Messi knows all about Watford. He follows Bobby P and Gerry D on Twitter and Instagram. They are good mates, and they often chat about their goals, like the one against Huddersfield and Cardiff. It could happen, you never know.

Not really the Fox in the box we need. I'd pick Gray ahead of him every time.

I suspect Holly will be working on his Autumn collection now.

What intricate harmonies will the straps & zips be creating?

Assuming Tom Walley never had his own line of jockstraps, isn’t Holebas the coolest hombre we’ve ever had at the club?

Tonight he scored his 400th La Liga goal in his 435th league appearance. I think that's a wonderful achievement. Ronaldo has scored 409 across Europe's top leagues, but Messi has achieved this in 63 fewer games.

That's odd. Are you sure? Multiple reports of him at Watford junction earlier this afternoon.

Do you think Messi will ever play for anyone else - like his local team in Argentina when about 37 or stay with Barca for his whole career...and probably life!?

In Rosario there are two clubs. Rosario Central and Newell's Old Boys named after Isaac Newell originally from Strood in Kent and a key figure in establishing the game in the country and city. Messi grew up to an extent in the Newells' system and is a huge fan and has made regular donations to the club. He has said numerous times he would like to finish his career there so we will wait and see. The way he is playing and his fitness and above all his football intelligence he could play in a midfield playmaking role into his late thirties and settle back into his hometown.

So the greatest ever scorer of goals in any of the top five divisions of 'elite' club football in Europe. Namely England, Italy, Spain, Germany and France. Just highlights also that Jimmy Greaves would still be the automatic choice for centre forward for an England or British all time XI.

And Messi despite many predicting to the contrary is still productive as ever in terms of goal scoring and assists.

I assume this is a mere wind up ? If he played in the PL he would dominate. If he played in serie A he would dominate. If he played in the Bundesliga he would dominate. This awful meme that he could not hack it on a cold wet night in Stoke is laughable. He has made a mockery of the best teams in England. He's comfortable at Barcelona and the only other club he is interested in playing for is Newell's when he leaves Barcelona. Another marvellous hat trick last night. You don't often see this any more in the modern game but the Betis fans gave him an ovation and chanted his name. Football minus Messi will be an awful lot more drab.
