You get a better rate if you exchange at Tesco using your clubcard, so we could still make a profit here

£15m with add-ons is still too much for this touch-less pace merchant

Amazes me how fans can vastly undervalue and overvalue our players.

Posted a pic on Instagram back at the training ground and ready to work (alongside Dennis and a few others).

    Looked relaxed and happy.

But in reality he downed tools 6 months ago of course.

I never thought he downed tools, just that he only had Fisher Price ones in the first place

I don’t think he downed tools. Just not fully fit, lost confidence, not being used effectively in a hyper defensive formation. Hopefully highly effective if we do retain him this season though I do fear if we don’t sell Sarr or Dennis this summer and then don’t get promoted we could be in serious financial difficulty.

Yeah, I don't think anyone was claiming that he 'downed tools', and the idea that him posting a picture on Instagram is some amazing 'gotcha' that would magically counter the accusation if they were is truly laughable stuff.

    He's certainly not ****!
He just needs to use his one asset, his pace instead of his redundant skillset.

Agreed, when he uses his main asset of pace he is a good player.
When he doesn't he is at best an average player.
When he doesn't use his pace and generally hides during a game his impact on the game is ****. (please see most of last season)

As I have said before he was the player who delivered the least compared to his potential, such a shame.

GT would of made him a star by just doing the basics.

I’m sure GT would’ve made him a star, but at the same time the player needs to take some responsibility as well. He has one asset and one asset only, he’s not particularly skilful, he’s not particularly great at shooting, he’s not any good at passing, he’s not good at tackling, but he has blistering pace. The fact that he rarely chooses to use this one asset can’t really be blamed on his manager at the time, as he’s had plenty of managers with us and it’s been a recurring problem. I think he just has a low footballing IQ and doesn’t know when and how to utilise his best asset. The playing in an ultra defensive formation argument under Hodgson doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, as Palace could barely score or win a game without Zaha in their team, but he was able to make a significant difference to their attack and their fortunes whenever he played despite Hodgson being ultra defensive. Zaha is an annoying ****. But he probably has much higher footballing IQ then Sarr, as despite playing in a defensive side he knew exactly how to utilise his assets to maximum effect, Sarr does not for whatever reason. If anything Sarr should’ve been a standout player under Hodgson because his tactics rely heavily on the attackers doing something out of the ordinary.

I can see us failing to sell him and it basically meaning Edwards is on borrowed time.

Leave him out and get fired for not helping drive his value up.
Or include him and be forced to play a front 3, as Sarr doesn’t fit anything else. When Dennis is sold, that’ll probably dictate Sema starting LW. It will also mean only 2 CMs (from our current batch, with one likely to be Cleverley) meaning we lose the midfield battle every week.
And Rob’s sacked because we’re bottom half.

Or I suppose he could adopt a 4-3-3 and we’ll all be left to wonder why we bother hiring head coaches who are essentially just motivational speakers given that they’re provided squads that can only play one way.

Can't see a 4-3-3 being used. If Sarr is here and playing all we need is the WB'S to be a little more defensively setup. Sema will not be used as a left forward .

You could argue that if he really is worth 30-40 million Sarr should be able to adapt his own game to whatever formation is being played within reason as suggested above by a19tgg.

To me his main issue is that defenders can easily mark him out of the game and then Sarr gets frustrated and disappears from it or starts to look for fouls.

We’ll see. In a 5-2-3 (/3-4-3) I can see us really struggling to play through our midfielders, especially without any competent ball-playing centre-halves.

I’m always a pessimist though, so can’t help but focus on the potential weaknesses.

Surely they’d just play Joao Pedro on the left and put Bayo up front - would potentially suit Edwards anyway given he prefers a target-man.

Sarr needed coaching to utilise and improve. It's patently obvious that recent head coaches have not really coached.

There's still time and there's potential to unlock we just need to handle him the right way.

He’s had an awful lot of coaches though and it’s the same recurring problem. He has one attribute and that’s pace, it seems odd that not one of these managers has thought to tell him to use it.

Actually his crossing also tends to be very good.

If anything his crossing is more consistent than his pace/dribbling, as there are days when he seems too nervous to go on a run/dribble past a defender when the chances are there, but then on the rare occasions he does so he manages to produce a decent final ball.

His finishing has also been shown to be decent at times, so long as it's on his right foot and he's discouraged from speculative long-range efforts.

Decent finishing at times means he’s bad at finishing. Roberto Carlos was decent at free kicks at times.

Well marginally better than average for a lower-third PL winger.

We are in a division where Sarr will shine. He did 2 seasons ago see no reason this season will be any different (unless he is injured or sold).

Has this been swept under the carpet now? Just wondered because people seem to be desperate for him to stay.

I feel like he's the exact same player we signed 3 years ago.

The occasional bit of brilliance, but the majority of the time on the periphery of the game not showing for the ball.

Not sure if it's a confidence thing, or he's just not as good as we all hoped he'd be

To be fair, I'm actually quite happy with that. He's capable of having moments, which lead to a goal. This is such a vital quality. He was quiet last night, but still provided a perfect pass for the winning goal. Is he pulling up trees? No. Is he doing enough for a club to pay £30m for him? No. But these are all good things for us, as it means we are likely to keep him until at least the winter window.
