Typical, Xander finishes 3rd and Woodland wins it at 50+/1.

Thankfully my ante-post bets for The Open are looking good value.

Got Rory at 12/1, Schauffele at 40/1, Wallace at 85/1 and Woodland at 150/1 over the last 5 months or so. All odds have reduced significantly.

Rahm and Scott also catching my eye.

Can't possibly be the British Open this year as it is taking place in NI.

Always a little surprised that this thread on golf doesn't get more traffic. Do we not have many golfers on here?
Anyway, The Players Championship this week with probably the most famous hole in golf, the 17th. Not sure if spectators are allowed but they were at last week tournament in the US that De Chambeau won. Had a cheeky fiver on Hovland for this.

The road hole at St Andrews is the most famous hole in golf, isn’t it?

Good point but I guess the 17th at Sawgrass is seen more often as The Open only goes to St Andrews every few years. Personally love the Postage Stamp at Royal Troon and Amen corner at Augusta

Yes, well that stuff is annoying, I agree. Still, all sport is entirely different without crowds.

Love The Masters. I did think they were going to allow patrons in to this but not as many as normal. Going for Patrick Reed as his putting is the best on tour and outside bet on Hovland

    Great minds think alike!

    I've went for:
    Schauffele
    Reed
    Scheffler
    Hovland
    Bezuidenhout

All very small stakes (£15 across all 5) and all e/w (8 places). Just something to keep me entertained for a couple of days.

Also liked the look of a special on SkyBet so did this at 66/1 (£5)
    Spieth&Thomas Top 10
    Fleetwood&Westwood Top 20
    Langer to make the cut

Tough scoring by the look of it - very few players under par.

Incredible round from Rose. Good news for him is that plenty of those expected to be in contention (Thomas, DJ, Koepka, McIlroy) seemed to struggle today.

Rose was just awesome from hole 8 onwards, as you say an incredible round.

My own small bets were on:
    Mickelson - T52
    Si Woo Kim - T8
    Thompson - T13
    Kisner - T13

Xander and Reed placed for me so pretty much broke even (80p down).

Matsuyama was excellent (bar a couple of crazy shots on the Par 5s on the back 9) and really deserved his win.

Yep Reed got me my money back. I would question Matsuyama's caddy was doing on the 15th. Just lay up you idiot

Phil Mickelson winning at 50 would be quite a story -4 shots ahead atm.

Golf is a good game but not a sport.
What other athletic event could have a major contender at 53 or however old he is?

I suppose it’s not the most athletic and it is some achievement if he does it.

Did my usual day 1 visit to The Open in Sandwich today and it was as good as it always was. Was just so nice to wander amongst thousands of other people and not worry about covid.

I made a point of waiting on a tee that Bryson DeChambeau would take a wood on and it was worth the wait. I looked him in the eyes and the bloke was wild, I admit to being a little scared.

If any of you ever get the chance to go I can't recommend it highly enough.
