Unless he has a big relegation wage drop clause it's a poor move I think. If we go down we've jettisoned the chance to ditch an injury prone high earner (by Champ standards). He won't be able to handle the never ending midweek games. If we stay up we are just continuing our tinpot penny pinching ways with an aging poor defense and it's an excuse not to upgrade. Pozzo is completely out of ideas so will just do what he has always done. I really wouldn't be surprised at a Holebas 1 year extension and a new deal for Mariappa coming up.

He’ll probably get Giraldi to call Britos and see if he’s game for coming back.

What on earth are they thinking? It's like they're allergic to letting anyone go for free. Britos said they offered him a one year extension last summer.

Janmaat has only once started over 50% of our games in a season and that was the very first one he was with us. Dishing out another extension to an injury prone 30+ year old back up is some high quality trolling from Gino and the gang.

He may not actually ever play for us, but I like Janmaat, so I won't moan about this one.

I like Janmaat too but this is daft.
He'll break his hand signing the contract.

The thinking is probably that we protect his resale value and can now sell him to Everton for £30m this summer.

Let's hope he goes nowhere near the Corona virus. He'd stand no chance. Hopefully we've insured him (if the premium isn't too high given his risk profile).

So next time the clappers point out how we don't have financial resources to sign X player that goes to Burnley or Bournemouth, remind them that we just wrote off £5m on a player who's average at best when fit, and that is rare.

I think that's a little unfair to say Janmaat is average at best. He's a very decent player but has had a rubbish season in regard to injuries. It's a two year contract for a decent 30 year old player. Some of the contracts we've given out have been ridiculous but this for me isn't one of them. Bachmann I certainly don't understand unless they are hoping to sell him

I think a 30 year old who gives us as few games as he does is ludicrous. I also disagree about the description of "very decent." I think, like many players who've been absent for some time, people are apt to romanticise their impact. He's bang average at best IMO and we should be looking for better, younger and/or cheaper. Standard Pozzo idiocy.

He was fine until he got his cassette tape hair cut off. Hopefully it's in his new contract that he must sport greasy locks at all times.

No idea why they offered him a new deal, aging player and it appears he is a bit of a crock now too, absolutely no resale value in him worth worrying about, all rather strange.

He’s decent, but even as a Championship club, I don’t think we’d have much trouble finding somebody of equal ability and better durability.

Any idea what's happening with Janmaat, anyone? Last I saw he was posting some footage of him running in a park in the Netherlands. Do we have any idea when he might be back?

Seems incredible given his injury record that the club gave him a new contract this February, when he was injured and we were in a relegation fight as they obviously didn't want him to leave for free this summer.

It doesn't make sense in any way as it was only a two year contract and he'll be 33 by the end of it so will obviously leave on a free anyway. So we've committed ourselves to two more seasons of paying his wages and won't get a transfer fee for him anyway. Total madness, he's quality player when he's fit but he's just never available.

The best player I have played against is Messi folks. Worth every penny of his contract for that pearl of wisdom..... Two million pounds near enough down the drain each year.

Not even mentioned in the few updates from what I can see so lord knows what is going on. I actually really like him as a player and he is really effective, the occasional defensive lapse probably wouldn't get punished this year but he would be great offensively. The guy just never seems fit for more than a few weeks at time though so agrred on the contract.

Sad, as I like him, but he makes Welbeck look healthy.

    Sorry Blondie....

We had a right back who ran real fast
Soon turned out, he was made of glass.
Seemed like the real thing only to find
When Darryl kicked, he left parts behind.

There's his knee,it's over by the corner in the Rookery
His head's down by the dugouts and his liver's gone
We'll have to reconstruct him now.
Four new limbs, another nose made from a hose
    From London Colney
    An iron lung,two new thumbs
There's nothing here apart from his ear
    Ohh oh Darryl
    Ohh oh Darryl.
