Not much too look forward to for me from the BBC. Mortimer & Whitehouse go fishing and a Bad Education reunion. That's about it. Stoped watching SPOTY as it was just a media friends love in with little to no review of the year's sport as they have no coverage rights. Channel 4' big quiz with Jimmy Car is generally entertaining. and as usual NYE I'll either go to bed early or watch a film as Jools Holland is an inssufferable twit these days. Humbug.
I always work on the basis that there will be nothing decent on TV over Xmas and I'll be pleasantly surprised if I stumble on somthing. Oh for the days of The Alamo, Fistful of dollars, and the Dambusters.
I just buy the Radio Times over Xmas as a nod to my now departed Grandparents and for nostalgic purposes. The reality is, I might watch a film or two (if the kids let me) and then go to bed early on NYE. My transformation into an old man is complete!
Agreed. Although the chances of seeing films like the Dambusters or Battle of Britain on the BBC or any terrestrial TV these days is next to zero. They used to be on all the time. Not sure if this is due to money, not PC enough or both. Or because all the budget goes towards Mrs Brown's Boys.
I was going to ask if you can still get one, might get one this year as pointless as it is, as I used to look forward to that so much as a kid and seeing what was on, no such thing as EPGs back then.
Xmas T.V has not even been half decent for years. Mary Poppins - yawn, Jurassic Park - seen it 1000 times. It's the same rubbish year after year. Oh and now it's even worse with those awful Harry Potter films on instead of "Christmas Classics". As annoying as Tim Allen is I do have a soft spot for "The Santa Clause" (first one, others were trash) and will watch that if it's shown. Peanuts Xmas Special, Snowman and Die Hard I can watch yearly too. Nowadays it's just recycled garbage year after year.
The trouble is that, back in the day, we had 3 or 4 channels. There was no TV on demand or pause and rewind. If a classic or a new film was on over Christmas then it was an event the whole family sat down and watched.... especially if it was advert free on the BBC. Even quality day time TV only happened at Christmas. Unfortunately we've been spoilt and now nothing is new or exciting anymore.
I've seen the first two, but never the 3rd one. What's it like? Sounds a bit arty-farty French avant-garde.
I can't resist: "They all laughed when I said I wanted to be a comedian. Well, they're not laughing now".
Escape to victory? Great shout about the Radio Times. Back in the day we needed to get a TV Times as well because not all the channels were in both. Used to go through with a pen putting rings round everything me and my bro were going to watch.
Completely. Getting excited at seeing listings for 'Live and Let Die' or 'The Spy Who Loved Me' at 6.05pm on ITV, Christmas Night.....
Yep, I used to go through the radio times and get my mum to tape stuff that was on too late as well. I remember one year the film Scrooged caught my eye and to this day it remains my favourite Xmas film.
On Christmas Day I see the BBC will see show "The King", they always used to show "The Queen", that'll be a change a least.
I don't like it when they mess around with casting in long-running shows like this one. I'd only just got used to the last actress and they've already replaced her
We will be doing what we normally do on Christmas Day, drinking too much and falling out. No time for TV. But at least between us we have Amazon Prime, Netflix and Apple TV in case we all get on after the Cremant.
