In theory I don't mind giving him a run, but we still have something to play for, which reduces his chances of getting a game, plus we can't sell Sierralta given he might need to deputise in midfield, and Porteous is a relatively recent arrival who we probably won't just give up on so soon. Shame for him that he's not left-footed
People have said he played well, I don't think anybody has said he's our best centre back. I would start him tonight as he deserves to keep his place. Not sure any of that is weird
Definitely very true and agree but some on Twitter /X have said that he is now the second best but maybe that is just typical of that site . Anyway let’s hope he can carry on performing well as we do need to find some consistency at the back .
I know centre back partnerships are supposed to get better as they play together more but would be tempted to go a bit "horses for courses" and give Pollock a chance when we're up against direct teams who don't have a lot of pace/trickery. Or bring him on earlier when we're dropping back/under pressure.
Not on here, no, but social media has been full of it. One half decent performance and the hyperbole surrounding him is laughable.
I've only seen him a few times. Shocker against Millwall and decent against the Saints. No problem with him getting more game time.
Keeps his place for me, he and Hoedt are our only proper defenders. Porteous wants to play anywhere but defence and Sierralta is just a nightmare who has forgotten what to do since filling in for Livermore.
Looked ok this evening is a no nonsense old fashioned centre half. Happy to boot it when tippy tappy is risky. Agree deserves to play more!
Agree hence why he was subbed, Porteous came on and like Sunday very quickly gave away a free kick. Seems as if Hoelt is the only calm CD we have on the books!
He’s just slow. For both their goals you can see he recognises the danger but can’t do anything about it. The footballing brain’s there but the legs aren’t willing. Can’t see that changing so lower reaches of the Championship are likely to be his ceiling.
He's been largely fine against bottom half sides this season, not going to hold it against him that he struggled at times against some Premier League quality players tbf. If we can keep the defence intact for next season, having someone like him as backup isn't the worst thing in the world
We don't have enough centre backs, and a young lower championship english backup for 4th-5th choice is fine
Changing to a back three with him in one of the wide centre back roles was always going to expose him, particularly with the wing backs pressing high. As you say, didn't have any real brain farts but if you've got a pacy winger running at him, he's stuffed. Decent enough option for defending in a back four against direct teams with no pace though!
Carries on his proud record against bottom half teams and teams just promoted from League 1 In all seriousness, a very assured performance, and looked pretty comfortable with the ball at his feet too. Southampton will be a different challenge with lots of pace in their side, but he's done his chances of keeping his place in the team the world of good
I watch a different game to everybody else. I think he’s been immense since coming in and really like him as a player
I think he generally plays well and I like him because he always looks like he is enjoying what he is doing and a positive personality in the team / squad. Technically he has some limitations, but some of the critical comments made about him are unfair.
I dont get the criticism of him, still young and learning his trade, needs to play first team games to learn though and seems to be getting better each game, dont know what more you could ask for.
