‘I Feel Fine’ by the Beatles…with the first example of feedback electric guitar at the start; then ‘Man Of The World’ by (the real) Fleetwood Mac; and as adolescence fully hit, it was possible to listen to Free’s ‘Alright Now’, Deep Purple’s ‘Black Night’ and ‘Paranoid’ by Black Sabbath all on TOTP.
Then I decided to spend the money on LPs rather than singles.

I would've been 11 or so here, and this truly was the gateway into a near lifelong obsession with Green Day that's still going strong to this day.

    Great stuff.

Not true. It was a best selling 12 incher and the UK is part of Europe.

No, as we have established you can have EPs of both 7 and 12 inch. When people were buying lots of vinyl 7 EPs were usually up to four separate tracks, but not extended remixes, which were the driving force for 12”.

OK, my reason for thinking this was that I can recall plenty of EPs in the 70s and early 80s but not many after the middle of that decade; the last i can recall is Billy Bragg's 'Between the Wars'.

Possibly this says more about my declining attention to the charts though.

A toss up between Gangstas Paradise or C U When U Get There by Coolio and One More Time by Daft Punk. We used to listen to Coolio during the family holidays to the Isle of Wight and Discovery by Daft Punk was the first album I ever purchased at the age of ten.

Gangstas Paradise was dripping in early 1990's sound. Fantastic song, and the vocals were completely on point. Fantastic piece of music and well produced.

Agreed, although it's heavily sampled from this, of course.

Wasn't it the song of choice for the lad we got on loan from United that died in a car crash?

Yes, but also because vinyl went into decline. CD sales (including singles) outstripped vinyl ones by the end of the 80s and it was superfluous to call a CD single an ‘extended play’ because they all were.

I was about 6 when me and my sister pooled our pocket money to buy 'The Funky Gibbon' by The Goodies, as I recall the B side was 'Sick Man Blues' which was about a bloke throwing up on his cat.

I believe the first single bought with my pocket money was Heroes in 77. Was already addicted to Bowie from a very early age. My parents saved a newspaper and a few different items from around when I was born in July 69 and one piece was Space Oddity which was released two days after my birth. So he was and still is my all time go to, especially when I'm feeling reminiscent.
