The Duckett run out probably sums up the last 2 days. Are we heading into the same sort of territory as the last series? Start well , be competitive then get a couple of hammerings.
Australia beat England by 562 runs in 1934 according to Cricinfo. Will be a record for India though and probably comfortably in the top 10 hammerings in history https://www.espncricinfo.com/records/largest-margin-of-victory-by-runs-283901
England were not playing bazball in the second innings and for most of the first. Joe Root was not playing bazball. Stupid, rash, idiotic batting isn’t bazball, it’s stupid, rash, idiotic batting. The Joe Root decline appears to have begun. Either that or they’re Moeening him and he’s sacrificing his batting for bang average spin. Still, Windies and Sri Lanka in the summer. More than enough matches to pad those stats some more.
Spot on! I've had the great priviledge of seeing some great batsmen take apart an attack (Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd and Ian Botham come to mind), but not by being stupid, rash or idiotic.
I think you could say that Jaiswal has shown our batsmen how to play 'Bazball' without ever mentioning it.
Not bad company for making double hundreds on.his first two Tests. The Don being one of the two others. Looks a really fine player in the making with an ready extensive track record in junior cricket
What surprises me is that he seems to structure his innings similarly to many of Stokes’ but this does not seem to have got through to some of our batsmen. He scored 35 from his first 73 deliveries, made sure he was in & that the early life of the new ball had died down and then smacked the ball everywhere. Too often our players try to go too early.
Yes we have this obsession not to be dominated by the bowlers, even in those first few overs. Stokes is usually prepared to start slow if need be based on match position. Our other batsmen don't have this ability to start slow and then switch gears.
Well they need to spend some time trying to learn to. Whilst I would prefer to lose heavily playing ‘Bazball’ than the equally ineffective ‘snoozeball’ of previous regimes, all this ‘that’s just the way I/we play’ stuff is cop-out nonsense. It’s been stated more than once in interview that McCullum and Stokes want the players to identify the correct positive approach to take in each situation…that does not equate to ‘try to hit everything’ which clearly is quite often diametrically opposite of the correct option! If they want to be seen as top international batsmen, one of the key skills is identifying the correct approach in each circumstance; they’ve got away with being too gung-ho against most teams, but it’s not going to happen often vs India & Australia. The Aussies took full advantage in 2 tests last year, in England. They’ll be even more ruthless in home conditions if we don’t start getting some balance in our approach.
I don't know what planet Stokes is on when he says they will carry on in the same vein. Test cricket hasn't changed in the sense that you play rhe conditions, the situation and bowling on it's merits. Not just go out there blindly and have a thrash. You can't score runs sat in the pavilion. Jaiswal showed tremendous maturity in his shot selection, played himself in before unleashing his armoury. Some of the Emgland side would do well to follow that. And surely Bairstow's time is up ? Someone like Hain for instance a better bet long term.
As Mike Atherton said we have left ourselves with too much to do after the first innings. Got away with it in the first test but not since.
Well this might be good news . Now can they rest a few more ?! https://www.thecricketer.com/Topics/indiaenglandmen/jasprit_bumrah_rested_india_for_fourth_test.html
That's a tad harsh - I know you two had a little spat about heating/wives/each other, but I quite like TuT's committed battle against the negativity of this forum by doing anything possible to distract from the joys of being a Watford fan.
Thanks. I've blocked @Keighley now due to all his aggressive and hurtful posts but I expect he will come back with some innocent post about not calling me dog **** whilst correcting any typos. The less posts I read from him, the better .
