Whether Edwards' pre season was as poor as people say or not, it's fair to say whatever VI did this year has made a big difference, injury-wise.
Don't know if this was tongue in cheek, but a home grown squad player on a short contract, likely to tot up around 10 G/A over the course of the season (4 so far), available for £50k, is the very definition of a no brainer. Especially for a mid table Championship side with a non-existent budget.
He's pretty much exactly what I expected apart from thought he'd be a bit more of a ****. As you say, context is everything. Would've been a weird signing if we were aiming for automatic promotion but we're not. He's far better value than an awful lot of our signings in recent years.
Last game I went to was the Wednesday game a few weeks ago, nothing came off for him, but he worked his socks off and we did look more solid on that side, which was definitely more than could be said for some of the players on the pitch that day! For a backup bought for £50k, he's fine, especially as he's been brought in to the position where we probably have the most depth
IMO , we are very strong in these wide attacking positions . Tom Ince is part of this strength. Off piste a little but I like the look of Kone, Kayembe, Livermore midfield 3.
Why are people mad at Ince? Not a fantastic signing, not a shyte one either. Defends well, attacks okay-ish. Nothing to really talk about here, weird thing to focus on.
Pete O’Rourke Understand Watford winger Tom Ince is available on loan before the close of the transfer window, alerting a number of clubs to his potential availability. #WatfordFC
Thank god. I thought he'd at least offer something from the bench this season but he's absolute gash.
In this case ‘Alerting a number of clubs’ is like your smoke alarm alerting you that your house is burning down.
Surprised if he goes actually. Seeing as we need at least 7 home grown players in any matchday squad. We've only got 9 currently. If Pollock and Ince both go, we'll be down to the limit of HG players in the entire squad.
I can't bring myself to clap him onto the pitch after all the years of booing him. Get him gone to free me of this conundrum.
I’d just let him go. He’s on one of the bigger salaries and should be a regular first team player, but he’s not. Save the pennies where you can.
It most certainly is. My PhD supervisor was a maths professor. He explained it thus: "A number of elephants has just fallen past the window."
Can’t see much space for him in the team now. Sema is coming back from injury, Dennis may play on the wings, and we have Martins and Asprilla and possibly Baah when fit. I imagine Tom Ince will be on a good Salary as we got him so cheap.
On 28k per week according to pod types, so will be hard to get him off the books anytime in next 18 months. A really stupid signing given our financial problems.
He's crap, but we'll be playing the full under 18's squad at this rate if we get a couple more injuries.
He's scored one really good goal but I cannot think of much else he has done. Spent most of time warming the subs bench and when he does come on you forget he's even on the pitch as he does so little. Good job we got him so cheap but losing an extra 28k off the wage bill is more of a positive move than him dossing on the bench to earn it I guess. Shame though as I thought he could add something but it seems VI doesn't see a place for him in the starting XI.
It's another example of the recruitment team being clueless. No one was excited by the signing, but I think a few (probably myself too) justified it as a cheap punt. However, I don't think quite so many realised the dire nature of the finances. £50k fee plus £28k per week comes to nearly an £800k outlay on a player we didn't really need. It's another example of throwing good money away on a rubbish cheap punt. Healey and Rajovic are other examples along with Okoye and Kalu in recent times. When finances are as tight as they are we cannot keep wasting money like this....yet they do. I'd rather not spend small amounts on 4 or 5 sh1t players, but combine it more sensibly and buy 1 or 2 clear upgrades for the same total outlay.
£28k a week? FFS that's just nuts. I've just googled it and it varies from £27k-£30k. One site has Asprilla on £1800 a week! I thought for £50k a week it was a good signing considering he's just had a decent season at Reading
Will that be a black mark against Val as he was really keen to bring Ince in ? Well that is what Ismael said in public.
I think there’s enough evidence to say Val is very good a building a team, but is hopeless at spotting a player.
