He's honestly so consistent from season to season and his shot maps are a thing of beauty As you said - he's of course limited in plenty of other aspects of his game and the way he was signed stinks. But I'd absolutely have him over Davis or Assombalonga.
Assombalonga was just a completely pointless signing. He is utter sh1te and doesn't even look fit. We should just have kept Bayo. What's happened to the Benfica lad? Looked good at Reading but not even in the squad Saturday
Obviously very small sample sizes for both, Assombalongas xG stats are inflated due to the goal against Birmingham - the first chance registered 0.59 xG, was saved, he fell over it and it went in off him for another 0.58 xG chance. If we were to balance that out as one chance then it works out at 0.33 xG on the radar above. But still offers very little overall, Bayo also offered little overall - but is exceptional at getting on the end of chances, which Assombalonga doesn't match imo.
I think my maths is right on this but I might be wrong! Radars are done on a per 90 basis and by the data I have, Assombalonga has taken 1.23 xG in his 184 mins played - giving him 0.60 xG per 90. Whilst being technically right, based on the circumstances around the shots I think it's a bit misleading to count both in the stats. The first shot was worth 0.59 xG and the goal was worth 0.58 xG. Removing one of those chances (1.23 xG - 0.58 xG) gives us a total of 0.65 xG in his 184 mins played - so that would be roughly 0.33 xG per 90
Oh I see! I thought you meant that if you add the two chances together, it somehow equates to a chance of 0.33 xG!
I'd certainly far rather see Araujo play, loanee or not, than ever witness Assombalonga waddling on to the pitch again. An utterly pointless player to have, and I don't mean in the meaninglessly insulting way, I mean in the (now well-trodden on this thread) he offers nothing positive to the team at all, way. This is the real 'Watfordy'; the absolute dictionary definition. Endlessly fielding overweight strikers who are almost immobile, can't finish for toffee, and alongside that are somehow still miraculously unable to utilise all that bulk and size in any effective way against opposition centre backs, who broadly-speaking () keep them at arm's length with consummate ease.
A fantastic double negative from the club of spending £5m on Bayo in the first place, but then shunting him out of the door at the first opportunity which in itself is an equally bad decision because the strikers we’re left with are even worse. At this stage it really seems like they are being incompetent on purpose now.
I think this was just the best way to show that Bayo wasn't a bad player, by deliberately signing someone even worse that makes him look relatively good. They chose to retain Sarr and Pedro, and then chose to play Bayo, Davis or Britt as CF ...or the wonderkid from Benfica who can't even get in the side ahead of them
We're talking pretty miniscule numbers here, plus Britt's goals have been against pretty poor teams, Araujo generally played against better teams
Let’s be honest none of our forwards have got enough goals or looked like doing so . If we are supposed to celebrate someone getting 2 then that says a lot !

I think this is part of an attack vs defence drill with the primary focus on the attacking side of the game - when the defence win the ball they try to build up out the back and score into the little goals with no keeper in them whilst the attack score in the proper goals.
Andrew French @androofrench Vakoun Bayo - the Crow - talks about the Ismael way, scoring winning goals, his surprise at being loaned out, and how he might unleash the dreads! #watfordfc https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/23699719.watford-striker-tells-fans-not-seen-best/ Who subscribes to the Wobby? Doesn't sound like he's going anywhere from that little intro from French
Well he likes Ismael at the moment as he is first pick but if a new striker comes in... Don't we hear the new manager has done this and that all the time to make things better. Then after a few weeks still gets sacked.
If he scores goals I don't care about anything else. I didn't see much from Ighalo to justify a permanent deal and he proved me wrong.
I wish him well for the season! He’s half way there...he gets into good positions but then fails to finish. Let’s hope with good coaching, then maybe just maybe he can improve on his goalscoring ratio. It’s a long season and even if we sign a new striker soon, I think there’s still a place for Bayo in the squad. He was more effective last season off the bench.
He wasn't even told he was going on loan last season, the way Pozzo treats people is disgusting. What a hideously ugly club we've become.
He must have received quite a shock then when they came to pick him up for the airport! I agree though. You sense sometimes the club treats players as commodities and pawns on a chess board rather than real flesh and blood human beings.
