Probably a load of rubbish but couple of Twitter posts suggesting we are after him . https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1674426421182365703 https://twitter.com/QatariFC/status/1674430439782772736 https://twitter.com/Squadra213/status/1674419880815394821 At 35 hardly one for the future. Remember we were in for him before .
Gets goals and fits the profile of player. Do think we should plump for someone younger but could do worse.
As others have said - probably rubbish. But that being said his stats are pretty similar to other striker targets we've been linked with so could be fine as a cheap backup option. Hopefully only a 1 year deal though.
We were after him before/after he went to Leicester. A bit old now though and surely not another cheap “backup” option? We’ve got 28 of those already and only 4 first team players in our squad so far.
Ultimately depends on how the rest of the squad shapes up. Currently the strikers on our books are: Healey Bayo Fletcher Adeyemo with Sarr, Kalu and Ince possibly able to play as a makeshift striker. It wouldn't be a massive surprise if we go into the season with only Healey and Ince in the squad out that list, with everyone else either sold or loaned out. I'd imagine Healey is joining to lead the line so depending on what formation we're likely to be using we likely need at least 1 or 2 strikers still - with at least one of those being a cheap backup. Slimani would be an upgrade over Kalu, Adeyemo, Fletcher and possibly Bayo, on a free transfer for 1 year it's not a terrible move.
Reckon Slimani is better than that. 8 goals in 600 mins for Anderlecht last season since joining in Jan.
Of course he’s not the worst option. Much rather have him than a return of Fletcher or Manaj. We do need a lot of strikers though to play Val-ball. He uses his strikers to exhaustion. They run and run until they can run no more, usually getting swapped around the 60 minute mark. It’s a young man’s game, playing up front for Ismael. This is why I’m a little surprised we’ve signed a 28-year old who has just recovered from an ACL, a 31-year old winger and are looking at a 35-year old striker. Will these guys be robust enough to play this high-pressing style?
That's fair enough and definitely a very valid point. I can't say I've watched him to answer whether he's fit enough at 35 to meet our requirements and he's been moved all over the shop which makes getting an accurate picture of how available he's been hard!
Blimey just when things seemed to be looking up this summer with two well-thought out transfers and the expectancy of a third one to come soon, today is turning out to be all our yesterdays again and old and/or injury prone ones at that. I know it’s only rumour, plus the well intentioned tip-off of a reliable poster on here, but let’s hope neither are true. Logically it would seem weird to hand over transfer responsibility to Manga and he then signs up two players we’ve been linked with while he was still happily earning a living and building his reputation in Germany. So I don’t think we should worry about either of today’s new links. Not yet anyway!
Not sure why people are down on this. Sure as a first choice it's not ideal, but as a back up to Bayo and Manaj he's more than adequate. People here expect Messi.
He's pretty similar to Cho Gue-Sung in style, no? Would be surprised if we'd sign both. Does point to us targeting at least one other striker with good aerial ability though.
He is a decent player btw. Didn’t mean to imply otherwise in my earlier post. Despite his age he still seems fit and injury-free, and still scoring goals. Could be worse options on a short-term deal, but conversely I’m sure there are better younger options out there available on longer term contracts.
Perfectly adequate as competition for Healey, Manaj and Bayo in the 3 back up slots Free transfer and fits Ismael’s hoofball style as well No brainer
They have just confirmed 9 spots on the bench, maybe 20 mins at the end of the game not the worst option.
We certainly do need some experience in the squad, we have perhaps veered too much the other way in recent times, but with Ince already arrived, and Livermore and Slimani linked (as well as Healey who is no spring chicken), it doesn't look like we're building for the long-term this season
So is he an old passed it has been or an experienced striker who could do a job ? Will the real Slimani please stand up ?
