You could.... Maybe.. fill up the washer fluid?

Agree about the bings and bongs (and lights) being irritating. I once had a Honda with a random business card stuck in the dash covering up the engine light.

How on earth is Holly Willoughby and Rob Schofield such weirdly big news? Are there really no important stories whatsoever in the world?

I’m normally a defender of the BBC, but it feels like they have almost turned into Hello Magazine, publishing so many articles on this guff.

Or am I a woke blob millennial and this is the kind of Brexit, Mrs Brown’s Boys “real British society” I’m so horrifically out of touch with?

The public interest isn’t always the same as what the public is interested in. In saying that, you do wish it wasn’t so.

I was baffled when Jimmy Saville died, that the reporting of his grave being desecrated was reported in such a muted way.

Obviously over time it became clear exactly why.

I suspect this will be another of those. ItV, his agent and every celebrity who knows him doesn't run this fast away from him, simply because he had a gay affair with a consenting adult.

The main thing is he used his own show to change the narrative to "I'm gay" for national support in order to cover up that he was grooming a boy.

I think another issue is he supposedly met this lad when he was underage then got him a job at itv so he could be closer to him.

Another shocker for ITV as it’s been confirmed that bosses knew FOR YEARS that Eamonn Holmes was sh!t but did nothing to prevent him gurning at viewers like a tired middle aged man in the middle of a difficult poo.

Well this is a controversial one. Tokyo is often said to have the best restaurants in the world. What do you dislike?

I'm not much of a fan myself, tbh, although I certainly don't 'hate' it.

I expect Tokyo has the best JAPANESE restaurants in the world. We’ve just had a full traditional meal served in our room and are frantically trying to find remnants of cereal bars, complimentary biscuits and crisp packets to make it up to a full meal. No wonder all Japanese seem to be waaaaaafer thin. Do all Sumo wrestlers spend 5 years fattening up in the USA or just get burgers shipped in specially ?

    Yes, it's not especially filling...

Our problem was not being able to understand the menus. We are usually quite adventurous with local food but we did end up going twice to a French brasserie near the hotel (which was excellent). The street food we tried was very good though.

If someone introduced them to the joys of a Cornish pasty, Ginsters would clean up.

I wrote the word “Ginsters” specifically to get that reaction from you :).
I think they are bloody marvellous. Some of these West Country wannabe producers should ask them for help. There’s a reason why they are stocked in every supermarket!

Ginsters?! Better than nothing I suppose, but a pale imitation of what you can get at many independent bakers in Cornwall. One of the best I’ve had was from The Cornish Bakery in Falmouth. Excellent!

I originate from Falmouth and return regularly as my brother still lives there.

The Cornish Bakery does indeed do good ones.

All this talk of pasties from Falmouth is making my mouth water. I wish I had a brother living there … rather than in High Wycombe.

Legendary perhaps and an interesting name… but having Googled the recipe, I’ll stick to Cornish pasties.

Like most English 'peasant' food it would have been what was available as leftovers that was wrapped in pastry (made with lard/suet for energy) and baked for someone's lunch (much the same as a pasty). ISTR that the only ingredient 'clangers' had in common was sage (and pastry).

As Jane Grigson's classic book "English Food" (first published in 1974) put it:

    grigson.jpg

The best clanger I ever ate was at a special food event at Bedford hockey club was basically a faggot with cubed potatoes at one end and apple/cinnamon at the other. Christ it was good.
