Will We Make The Play Offs?

I'm not convinced Scum will make the playoffs.

They've had a very easy run lately and form is tailing off after two embarrassing results against Grimsby. They've had a great opportunity to put daylight between them and the chasing pack and failed.

Let 'em have it on Saturday, Troy.

They won't make the play offs, they will come 7th in the table, just missing out on goal difference to................Watford who finish 6th and go up through the play offs!

The tears in scum land will be flowing!!!

This was our starting line up at Swansea less than two months ago - that mid-season injury crisis wrecked our season - only 3 of these outfield players started against WBA!

Every chance we pip them, but I have to say, with our respective goal differences at the moment, we'll probably have to start racking the goals up for us to pip them on goal difference!

To make the playoffs last season from our current points total we’d need to average over 2 points per game from now, LOL.

I have updated the graph for the current top 10 clubs, as of today (Coventry and Blackburn have replaced Sunderland and Swansea).

I'm quietly confidant (perhaps optimistic is a better word) that we will make the play offs. Recent performances have been an improvement on how we were playing and looking at the reading, blackburn and united games we really should be 5 points better off than we currently are. Looking at our last 12 games, 10 are against teams in the bottom half and more than half of those are at home I believe. All teams that are either inconsistent, struggling or out of form so if were are genuine about promotion we really should be able to get a decent number of wins from those games.

I havent checked out the run ins for the other play off chasing teams but ours most be one of the easiest on paper at least. If we can sort out our woefully under performing forward line theres no reason we cant make the play offs and do so being the in form team.

But like I say we have to sort out our attack. 10 league games we've failed to score in this season and our first choice striker hasnt scored since october. Not a great set of stats for a promotion chasing team

Easy money as we’ve played all the hard teams apparently and are soon to play the rubbish ones. Even though I was told that they are all rubbish in this league.

We’ve already show that the likes of Reading, Rotherham, Swansea and Blackpool are no match for us.

We absolutely will not make playoffs with Bilic in charge, the results aren't great but the bigger concern is the lack of any clear game plan, the substitutions and most of all the bizarre ostracizing of talented young players who might improve the situation. Can't stand him.

We may well make the play offs ... but we will not go any further as we struggle against remotely competent teams due to our reliance on individual brilliance as opposed to having a capable and cohesive team

Haven't our 'better' performances actually come against teams at the top end if the table? We've beaten Sheff Utd, Burnley, Norwich, Boro, Luton etc this season already.

I'd say it's about 90% likely that we won't and we don't deserve to anyway.

The only 10% doubt is that we suddenly change the habit of the past 4 seasons and go on a 10-12 game streak. Maybe it's less than 10% on reflection.

This season has been boring as ****.

This is basically it - I still have a fantasy in my mind of us doing something completely illogical and against almost all odds, and probably will until it's mathematically impossible, but realistically, outside of semantic arguments we are so undeserving of promotion based on the way the team and hierarchy have conducted this season it would be genuinely comedic.

It's just that we've bet the house on doing so, financially, so it would actually be quite useful if it happened.

I would feel somewhere between sheepish and mildly ashamed, though, in a cosmic sense.

As you say, we've probably really had one enjoyable game/impressive performance, momentarily punctuating the remaining sea of various types of drudging dross.

As others have said there is no evidence to suggest we will go on a run to make the top 6.

We're already into the 'needing snookers' phase I'd say. We need things like tonight's Luton v Millwall game to end up in a draw, plus probably a few more of the games involving teams around us. And we need to take 3pts in the games against Luton and Sunderland as part of our haul.

I just can't see it at the moment. Doesn't mean it won't happen but we've been incoherent all season on the pitch and there's basically no signs that's changing. For all the remaining home games look winnable there are also a lot of teams turning up with something to fight for - 4 of them are currently in the relegation places or only just above. I fully expect them to want it more than us.

There's a 1% chance we get promoted imo. Very little chance of getting in the play offs. And an even smaller chance we win them.

I think we win 8 of our final 12 and end up with around 74-76 points. Think we'll finish 6th, or miss out by a point or two. I don't fancy us against Boro, but if SU implode, I'd say we have a chance.

I think that’s the thing for me. It’s not like we’re even entertaining. West Brom was probably the highlight of the season excitement-wise and that was mostly due to how terrible both sides are.

Every game, win lose or draw is mostly an absolute bore fest. This is shown by the ever increasing number of empty seats at the Stadium Of Silence. Half the ‘1881’ don’t even turn up now.

Sadly my daughters enjoy going because they don't know any better, so I go to endure every week.

Luton was the only game I've enjoyed this season. 1-2 enjoyable home matches a season has been about par for the past 4 years.

Whilst the atmosphere at Vicarage Road was never great, it's quite something how it's been killed off almost entirely. These days there is barely a murmur apart from a few seconds after the occasional goal.

The apathy and malaise that has accompanied our wacky squad for years has finally infected the stands too.

Which means we have dropped a number of points against easier opponents - and they make up the vast majority of our run-in. So unless we can get over this mind-block of not being able to dispatch those we should, we won’t be getting anywhere near the playoffs.

Whenever we’ve gone on a run in the championship it hasn’t taken 24 games to lead up to it, if it was going to happen, it would’ve happened by now.

The fact that we might suddenly go on a run because we’re predominately playing teams below us is living in a fools paradise, a lot of those teams will have things to play for and that’s when we tend to buckle the most, when we face an opponent that will fight more for it than we will. Millwall aside we’ve had good results against most if not all of the better teams this season, that’s not really where our issues have been.

Watford PPG against the top 10 down to and including WBA = 1.65

Watford PPG against the bottom 14 = 1.55

May as well put our name on that play off trophy now.
