How many of those 7 were penalties? I love Deeney as much as the next guy and we truly miss his leadership, but lets not pretend he was anything other than a hindrance on the pitch as a player in his last season. Davis has been mostly crap this season, but is still much more effective than the 2020 edition of Troy Deeney.
I'm not saying he was useful at all on the pitch because I don't think he was in that season. But neither is Davis this season.
Really not convinced on that point. Davis is a bit more mobile, sure, but then there's no evidence of any leadership from him (for example).
No no, purely as a player I mean. He's at least capable of beating a man or two, or holding the ball up (provided it's chest height or below). He has zero leadership skills and spends the entire game moaning at others for not passing to him, when he's clearly marked.
He’s been very average, but not as bad as people are making out. His lack of availability were known when we signed him. That said, hate the idea of paying £15m for him if we go up!!
He was actually good for Forest, even if not clinical. That he’s so ineffective for us in every way is testament to how good players can be made to look crap when used badly. It’s therefore hard to tell which of our crap players are being mishandled and which ones are just crap.
Sure is good on the ball at times. But very lazy and not going to be a goal threat. Think Tommy Mooney called him non goal scoring striker.
What was it he did for Forest that stood out? I just can't see much of a player in him, largely because he seems to lack the engine to play 90 minutes week in, week out and he isn't a standout at things you'd expect him to be at face value (eg. dominating in the air).
Was very mobile, stretched defences, brought others into play, created space and chances for others, and got a few goals too.
Archer ran the channels against us and Boro had the simple option of hitting the space for him. The balls over the top don't even have to be that accurate if you have willing runners as the did. I can only remember Martins doing this on occasions, one he should of scored at Boro and the penalty at home v Huddersfield. It's not rocket science.
Like Brennan Johnson I guess ? Unfortunately we haven’t got the same sort of attacker unless Sarr is bothered.
The reality is Davis is 25 years old with a dozen pro goals to his name, being repeatedly loaned out by parent club as no club will pay a decent fee for him + Forest didn't want him. He has again proven that he can't score goals which isn't a surprise, because he would have done it before. He is far more of a dud than some other players signed. The favourites Watford fans pick are weird. For months this player was receiving little to no criticism despite being lazy and almost never scoring, perhaps on the basis of exaggerated praise from Forest fans who were just happy to go up after so long out of the Prem. Sarr is a different case because he has actually shown bursts of talent but imo doesn't care much and doesn't really want to play for the club.
Deeney scored his seventh of the season yesterday, Davis still stuck on 4 and not scored since October.
Got 1 assist to Davis' 0, too... Though, in total fairness, it should be noted that Troy's done it in nearly 500 minutes more on the pitch:
Yes - one legged Deeney is available more often than Kienan 'out for three weeks with a sniffle' Davis.
I’m not a fan and I don’t think his loan will be turned permanent unless for a significantly lower fee. I just don’t see the team work or any form of chemistry with team mates. He behaviour is petulant at best and has so many little tantrums when a pass is missed or things don’t go his way. I’ve never seen him acknowledge good play by team mates and his off ball game is non existent. An apparent PL player whose ego belongs but hasn’t earnt the right. He will languish in the Championship or lower divisions if he carries on
Choudry hasn’t been a bad loan signing, but otherwise we either fail to utilise them at all, or completely waste them on duds.
He's infuriating for a number of reasons: 1. His movement off the ball is almost non-existent and on the rare occasion he does make a purposeful run, it seems to be into someone else's space rather than away from them to help open up the defence. 2. He's useless at heading but weirdly good at bringing it down on his chest. 3. He's never in the box. Last few games where we've been looking for a goal to get back into the game or take the lead, he's often found ambling about near the touchline. 4. His fitness is a joke, he's spent after 55-60 minutes. 5. He's incredibly petulant, getting involved in pointless pushing competitions with defenders. 6. He doesn't concentrate, loves an offside or a foul when the defender is under pressure and going nowhere (in fairness, whole team is afflicted by the second one) 7. Holds onto the ball far too long, was pleasantly surprised by him passing quickly to Sema for the goal the other night. 8. He is rubbish at diving but still keeps trying to do it whenever he's got into the box with the ball at his feet. Other than that, he's great!
Fair criticisms, but all of his deficits are exacerbated by playing, as a lone striker, for a team that doesn’t keep hold of the ball or pass it well. He ends up chasing the ball into wide or deep areas using up his effort. It’s a shame because there are clearly times when he is a handful for opposing defences. He’ll keep hold of the ball well, go on a run and find he has no one to pass to. Loses it and has a sulk.
Indeed. He was great last season for NF when he had better support. That's why we pulled out all the stops to sign him.
He is very similar to latter day Deeney in that he rarely makes runs into the box, and certainly never the right ones.
3 of Deeney's goals have also been penalties, while none of Davis' have been. So they're both on 4 from open play in the league. Still crap that it's so close though.
Someone seems to rate him or rather says we haven't provided him with enough service which might be fair but I agree with the points made by @Steve Leo Beleck https://twitter.com/Torn66T/status/1627670833727434753 Doesn't help himself at times with a lack of movement and fitness.
Also holds onto the ball for far too long and initiates contact in some kind of weird attempt to prove he's the strongest player on the pitch
Being panned on social media, and I can understand why, but I thought he played well, just can't finish his dinner!
Thought he did well for the first goal, Bayo or Araujo probably get muscled off the ball, but he managed to spin and get a shot off which led to a goal, thought he did some good work before the box too. Should definitely have bagged a goal or two mind you!
