I’ll be honest, as much as I hate that the World Cup is in Qatar and everything that’s gone on, I’ll watch what I can of the tournament. And I’ll probably enjoy it.

I don’t think this is going to be a quiet tournament though; there will be some kind of moral flashpoint.

There aren't many locals. Maybe some relatively unenslaved foreign workers will get a treat to make up the numbers.

Good day out at Barnet yesterday, helped by some decent beers and delicious Indian street food in Kingsbury pre-match. Nice modern stadium, though only 3 sides to it. Entertaining enough match though the standard wasn’t the best, I was sat near the Barnet ‘ultras’ a group of around 40 young lads who didn’t stop singing throughout the game including a bizarre chant halfway through the 2nd half of ‘shoes off for Barnet’ where they took their shoes off and waved them in the air. About 150 Torquay fans had made the long journey and it was surreal to hear them chanting ‘yellow army’. There must be a bit of history between the two clubs as the Barnet fans were singing ‘Torquay get battered everywhere they go’ and roundly booed them when they came out for the 2nd half. Not once did a physio have to enter the pitch, the injured players just picked themselves up and got on with it, which was refreshing to see. No player stood out except for the Barnet keeper who pulled off some fine saves 2nd half to thwart a Torquay revival. Oh and the teams walk out to ‘Sweet Child’ by Guns & Roses which was nice. Next up is the local derby v Wealdstone on December 3rd with a 12.30 KO to avoid clashing with world cup games, I might just go again.

Has Gareth Southgate mentioned his and the England players' 'values' yet? What a bloody hypocrite

I’d be interested to know what you mean by this. If you’re saying the England manager and players should unilaterally withdraw from the tournament on the grounds of disagreeing with the host country’s regime, I really don’t think they have that power - or that we should expect them to do that. It is however something the FA collectively could have done years ago.

I have to say that when we had a crap team with no chance of winning I would have been a lot keener on England withdrawing than I would be now, when our talented attackers might be able to compendate for weaknesses further back. Hypocrisy? 'fraid so.

Pretty insignificant in the scheme of things but having to put up with Alex Scott gulping her words for another month. Help...... Or the mute button.

Leave Alex Scott alone. As she said, the easy thing to do would be to have stayed in cold old England during this World Cup and not gone to nice and warm Doha to stay in luxury for a month - whilst getting paid for it.

Seeing Shearer and Ashley Williams shuffle anxiously in their chairs as the hypocrisy filled the room like a slow moving yet potent fart will struggle to be topped the whole tournament.

Are we supporting Ecuador here so Senegal get knocked out early and we get Sarr back relatively fresh, or are we hoping he has a good World Cup to add a few bob to his transfer value?

Watching this first game to see if anything goes off.

Perfectly good Ecuador goal ruled out by VAR for absolutely nothing. Can't have Catarrh humiliated, can we?

And no transcript's available of the VAR decisions unlike at previous World Cups. Travesty of a decision.

Who knows. That was a terrible decision from the VAR booth and of course we will never know how they reached that decision. Qatari keeper must be happy though as he was sure to be flogged afterwards.

    Someone sent me this :

“It’s when it first comes in and the header up with the keeper, the players foot is offside and then it bounces and he gets it”

“But I mean it’s very harsh”

    Just shown it .
