Well, not so much didn’t like as didn’t watch, although Mrs Keighley enjoys it.

But that’s not really an answer, Hitchikers is a classic and I am no sci-fi nerd (nor, I suspect is @I Blame Bassett).

    This is true!
Nor have I ever watched an episode of Freuds or whatever it's called!
    Last Autumnwatch on now.
Only a week this time, due to the various football competitions I read.
Amazing that the Japanese copied the kingfisher's bill in building the bullet train!
Not so keen on the gammarus and parasitic worms.
I kept seeing Andre Gray in my mind's eye!
    Role on Winter watch!

    Brilliant waxwings at the end.
We had bats over the court last night.
I think I shall call them "Dennis" in future.
Leaf Lady Lucy was also fabulous!

Didn’t see the waxwing bit but recorded so will watch today. We are long overdue an inland invasion of significant numbers of these fascinating birds. It’s 11 years since there were last good numbers in Hertfordshire.

I'm already looking forward to WinterWatch.

Was gifted a mini tower greenhouse at Christmas and a veg seed selection box. I've heard that it's possible to sow some seeds and put them out in a plastic box at this time of year, is this a good tactic? I'm looking at trying it with some radishes first.

I’d say it was too early. Wait until early Feb, even if you have put the greenhouse in a sunny spot.

Don't fall for it. He seems all friendly now but when he presents his early and extra large radishes later in the year you'll see what his game was...

Radishes should be OK in the winter/spring if protected from frost but they'll be mild in taste as they need heat to spice up. Feb is prob a good time to sow.

Thanks Meister, I was going to grow them in two batches from seeds. Do you grow chilli's? Got some naga seeds I'm thinking of starting soon.

Yep grow a lot of chillis as I make a batch of chili pickle every year. Didn't have a lot of luck from seed last year but always try. Naga's and scotch bonnets seem to be particularly problematic and never managed to grow a reaper. Little early to plant yet but may be worth starting off some in your airing cupboard.
I tend to pick up the seedlings from garden centres feb/march and pot on from there, but always save seeds over from their fruit to have a punt.

Thanks Meister for the airing cupboard tip, didn't think of that!

I was going to suggest doing two batches in case it’s still too early for the first lot. One in Feb and one in March?

Have you got broad bean seeds? You could start them now, and the beans are delicious.

That's what I was thinking, keep them inside until late Feb then plant outside for early March with a further batch a few weeks later.

I don't believe I do, thanks for the recommendation, I'll pick up a pack when I'm in Tescos.

True but then I don't have to deal with the general public if I buy my own.

And we have birds on our street so I wouldn’t choose to fly thousands of miles to see them.

What interests you, interests you. Gardening is rewarding, healthy and fulfilling (but often frustrating) and food really does taste better if you have grown it yourself.

Plus you can grow varieties you can’t get in Tesco, just like the birds you won’t see over here.

I wouldn't fly 1000s of miles to see the wildlife you can see in your street either. I fly 1000s of miles to see wildlife, temples, culture etc I can't see here. Tesco Tring sell broad beans :) I jest of course. After my asparagus debacle I've decided the effort in time and money to grow my own isn't justified by the end product, so I've abandoned any plans. As you say, each to their own, and maybe I will change my mind when I have more time eg retirement...

You give up too easily. Also, asparagus was hardly the easiest thing to start out with (I only got one spear this year too).

If you want broad beans you are better off going to Dunsley Farm.

It was a half hearted attempt. I LOVE asaparagus and buy a bunch a week, but the effort involved outweighed the potential reward.

I actually hate broad beans but i know the place you mean - every time I drive past there, today included, I always think I should have a look in there, support local business etc.....

You should, the produce is great in there and it's next door to Tring Brewery!

It's a great brewery, have you tried the centenary ale? It's really rather good, very biscuity.

Recently installed new UV lighting into the warehouse on my 1/2 acre cannabis farm, however my yields have only gone up by 10% and not the recommended 25%.

    Any tips ?
