I think he has done well these past two games - he reminds me of Andre' Gray in so many ways. Can get into positions make a run, but his finishing is iffy. However, he looks like a player who wants to be here and is happy to adapt, which is a bonus. Manaj hasn't been giving enough games yet to really draw conclusions, but credit to Bayo - he is trying.
Davis looks like a better player to start but Bayo looks like a handy option to throw on if you need a goal. He's basically useless at everything else.
Lovely volley today. Shame he fluffed another header. Surprising how poor his heading’s been given that his highlights video was just him smashing them in from all angles.
Touch is really quite poor, and should have done better with the header, but looks like he could potentially do a decent job this season. Takes up good positions and noticed a couple of intelligent runs that weren't spotted
He's not 'good' with the ball, and indeed his touch is relatively poor, but at the same time, I don't get half the nerve-wracking chaos sensation I did whenever it came anywhere near Andre. Bayo is not good with the ball in a regular player way, and it doesn't mean he's basically incapable of trapping or controlling it essentially guaranteeing the opposition recovers it, at least.
Jury is still out for me even though there are some positive signs. Two in two is nothing to be sniffed at though. Took one off Gaspars head which I'd expect or hope any forward would do. He's getting in the positions to score I'd be more worried if he wasn't. Not disappointed with him but want more.
First time I took notice of this guy was his winner the other night, nice finish yesterday as well. I’m keen to find out a bit more about him and have searched through every thread on the forum but can’t find my answers to these 2 questions; How much did he cost and who is his agent?
We called Luther "MISSIT" for a reason, he missed as many chances as he scored and he didn't turn out to bad did he, could we have his long awaited successor?
TVOR buddy, I've stood up for you a few times in the past and have nothing against you, but you might want to rethink this - perhaps even delete it. Luther scored 186 for us in 503 games, he's stood up for the fans numerous times over the years and has done loads for the local community, give him a bit more respect than repeating the stupid tabloid nicknames. On the subject of Bayo, I was quick to judge him. The technique in that volley was beautiful and his anticipation for his first was also top notch, he might be limited but there's a natural goalscorer in there that just needs encouraging out.
No insult was meant to Luther, I've actually met the man and he had no problem with that nickname at all. I have nothing but respect for Luther and I see his nickname as one of fondness and not an insult. Therefore comparing Bayo to him was meant as a compliment to them both, as so far from what I have seen their style of play is not dissimilar. However it is of course very early days as far as Bayo is concerned, but I am just hoping that Bayo will turn out to be even half as good as Luther was for our club and if that comes to fruition we will have a very good player on our hands.
I thought it was what Gray say about Luther, not what the club said which pissed Luther off, Luther was unhappy because the club allowed the comments to stand!
It was a piece by the clubs media team, so ultimately the club were just as responsible for it. Gray would hardly have been aware of Luther Blissets nickname. The club sanctioned it, made it and put it out there.
It was a comment made by Richard Walker(?) in an interview with Gray, referencing the nickname unfairly given to Blissett. In the comment by Walker he framed it in a positive way (LB was so hard working and got in so many good positions, so naturally he would miss a few), and was effusive in his praise. He asked Gray if he "understood how he made that work for him". He didn't compare Andre Gray to Luther Blissett. He didn't say Luther Blissett was a wasteful striker. But, of course, the permanently-offended types took the comment out of context and used it as an excuse to have a good old whinge. Disgrace! Disrespect! For shame!
Looks like we’re starting to see exactly what his statsbomb radar suggested he would be. A fairly average player with a real propensity for getting lots of shots away from good positions. Small sample size but with 1.99 xG in his 331 mins he’s on par already with his xG/90 mins (0.55).
I'm surprised his xG is that low tbf with the number of decent chances he's had, but I guess his goal against Boro probably wasn't as high as you might think and of course the goal against Rotherham was a very difficult finish!
Yeah I think xG is generally less than you’d think. What we might think of as a good chance that a player should score is often 0.3-0.4 xG. Headers are also much lower than you’d think. His goal against Boro was 0.49 which is as high as you get without being an open goal really, but his volley against Rotherham was 0.09.
This. Other clubs fans and the tabloid media called him missit. He was only ever Looooother to Watford fans.
Always find it interesting the difference in xG models - Statsbomb have the goal against Boro at 0.58 and 0.07 for the one at Rotherham (overall 2.24 xG). But yeah, his game is limited but he gets into good positions and gets shots away. Time will tell with his finishing is sustainable, but if it is then he'll end up with a decent tally at the end of the season.
Were they that poor? Two off the woodwork! One bad header in a former game was woeful though. He's finding the positions to score can we really ask for more atm? Trust me I've seen far worse turning out in our forward line than Bayo. He's proved if you feed him in the box he will put chances away.
Did he touch that one against Rotherham from Pedro's cross? I was pretty much behind it, although higher up, and it was really hard to tell. And replays look pretty inconclusive too.
The one that Gaspar was coming in round the back on? I'm pretty certain it skimmed Bayo's head, the ball seemed to change trajectory and it took it away from Gaspar. It'd be a bit harsh to say that one was a bad miss from Bayo given that he seemed at full stretch already to try and reach it. His missed header against Brum I think was a bit crap though.
Well, £5m is still a head-scratcher, but I think it's fair to say we have a very decent Championship striker on our hands
It's not inconceivable he scores 10 this season, with his poachers instinct, and KD's injury record. How much is a 26 year old striker who gets double figures in the Championship worth? Not far off £5m these days, surely?
In the not too distant past, maybe, although in this day and age, with money much tighter below the Prem, I don't think many clubs would pay that much on a backup, there certainly weren't many bigger deals this summer. Like fellow Bayat signing Louza, the issue definitely isn't that he's a bad player, merely that such a fee wasn't the best use of tight funds
No argument there, I'd have preferred the £5m was spent on a young English CB to improve the starting line up. In isolation though, he looks like he could potentially be a good signing, albeit a couple of mil overpriced.
it was a proper strikers finish today. reminded me of a couple of deeney's goals in his time with us.
