It's definitely the best of the Nu-Trek offerings and they seem to have borrowed a lot from ST:TOS (which is no bad thing).

I always thought Durst was the epitome of a douchebag. Would this change my mind?

Just asked no. 2 son and it was a long interview in one of the episodes of 'Metal Evolution' (looking at wiki, ep 08). It was mentioned by both Durst and the members(?) of Korn (who 'made' Limp Bizkit) - that you had prominent acts from the, virulently anti-establishment, burgeoning Nu-Metal movement playing at the, pinnacle of corporate music industry, MTV event showcasing how hip they are (not trying to wring every last cent out of their consumers). He is a douchebag but he's very entertaining douchebag. I'm looking forward to watching him in the Woodstock '99 thing.

We've just watched pt 2 of the Netflix Woodstock thing and I was expecting to hear from Durst (sadly he's not interviewed). Here's a snippet of Durst's interview on 'Metal Evolution ep8':

There's a full overdubbed version of the ep available (Limp Bizkit from 20'15"):

I enjoyed BCS last night, just the finale to go next week which is setting up nicely to go out with a bang.

I was out last night so tempted to save yesterdays and watch it along with the finale next week, just need to avoid spoilers.

Black Bird on apple+ is nothing short of excellent. Any true crime fan should have a look.

I've got the last episode to go - but I have to agree this has been excellent. Paul Walter Hauser's 'Larry' is without doubt the 'best' portrayal of a 'baddie' (ie scary, hypnotic, engaging and repulsive - frequently in the same scene) I've ever seen on TV. Taron Egerton was a 'hesitation moment' (I've always found him to be a very limited actor - other than the Chav 'Eggsie' in the first Kingsman film), especially as he was an executive-producer for 'Black Bird' - but I'm very glad to have been proved wrong. And the show does not deserve its 'True Crime' label.

I only came to this through a recommendation from someone who was a fellow fan of, the superlative, Mindhunter.

That's fair. It's based upon a true story but then again what true crime drama follows it to the letter.
Honestly didn't realise it was Taron until my Mrs said but I thought the two leads were brilliant especially Larry as you said.
Now I will scan the net for a documentary about him if they have one.

Been watching The Sandman. I never read the graphic novel so I have no frame of reference as to the faithfulness of the adaptation, but I have found it to be beautifully filmed and intriguing so far. Not regretting watching it.

The Undeclared War C4 has proved a lot more interesting than the first episode promised. It isn’t the greatest character drama, but it is interesting on cyber warfare and has decent supporting acts from the likes of Simon Pegg and notably Mark Rylance, who the director seems to have told to go out and do a sort of Mark Rylance type turn.

Interesting.... As I'm a Sandman fanboi I really wanted to comment on the 4 eps (especially as the 4th 'story' in the cycle contains "The Diner") I've seen but feel that this would 'taint' what I have to say. There's been a fair bit of 're-gendering' in the TV adaptation Lucien, Lucifer and, most notably John (who's a hard-nosed Scouser in the books) to Joanna (a character who plays a very important role in later cycles/tales) Constantine (played by Jenna Coleman who I don't think is a particular interesting actor - her attempts at swearing like a scally were laughably bad).

The TV cast is less, ahem, 'pale' compared to the books (and makes sense in some cases since with 'Cane & Abel' and the 'Fates' who, historically, could never have been honkeys) and really doesn't affect anything. Some small amount of stuff from the later stories has been introduced (the trouble with the books/comics is that all have to be read in their entirety as so much is re-referenced and one of the books' many outstanding features are how they embed stories within stories with stories (hey postmodernism!!!!!) - I wonder how they'll successfully do that in the later tales for TV? - but it's to be expected to make a watchable TV narrative (something the recent TV version of 'Watchmen' refused to do - good for fanbois but bad for newbs).

It looks beautiful but my two criticisms are to do with the sound: Tom Sturridge looks the part as Morpheus but he doesn't sound like how I've always 'heard' the Sandman to speak and I have the same criticism of Mathew.

I'd be very interested to read any other Sandman 'virgins' views on the show.

That's always the danger of written > audio-visual adaptations: everyone has their own headcanon.

Coming in blind like I am, with no preconceptions, I don't find either of them jarring. In fact I think they're both very suited to the on screen roles.

My wife has read The Sandman and the only change that's "bothered" her so far is Death, purely because she really liked the original goth version in the comics. As a goth herself I think it's just a case of being disappointed that her own preferred culture hasn't been replicated on screen.

As an aside, I see that Gaiman has not 'direct' producer or director's role/credit which is a good thing as American Gods got better when he was relieved of those duties.

I don’t know about anyone else, but when I read books I always imagine the characters as real life existing actors, in my head I pick real actors that to me suit that role. Whenever something is then adapted for the screen it’s almost always jarring to me because as far as I’m concerned they’ve cast the wrong actor in every role.

I was delighted when Jared Harris was chosen for the role of Hari Seldon in Foundation as he perfectly fitted my archetype for the character. I was, however, disappointed that the whole thing turned out to be such a pile of cobblers.

Very late to the party but finally binge watched the first season of “Fleabag” in a couple of sittings. Very good. The Olivia Coleman character is just like my dad’s wife

Five Days At Memorial (Apple TV) is set during Katrina in New Orleans. It’s a solid drama, that provides a fascinating insight into how the disaster played out in real time.

I thought I knew a fair bit about what happened, but this gave a much stronger sense of it.

  23. Up to episode 6 - Herogasm!

Really enjoying this season. I think I'm becoming desensitised to the gore a bit. Loving it though. Really great stuff.

I actually looked away more when the deep had to eat his friend than most of the more graphic scenes. Rip Timothy.

    Rip Mothers Milk's jacket too

  26. I've struggled with this one. In principle I feel I should find it funny and entertaining because it's a premise and comedy style I'd usually like.

I've watched a few episodes and I don't get anything from it.

Maybe I need to give it more time.

Slow Horses? They made the second one Dead Lions at the same (it should be released later this year with Real Tigers and Spook Street 'greenlit'). The books seem to focus more on Jackson Lamb as you go through the series (which is no bad thing, I'm up to London Rules). It's really odd that Gary Oldman has played the previous 'Hamlet' of spy fiction George Smiley really well - his portrayal of Jackson Lamb (the new 'Hamlet') is exquisite...

I'm liking the new Lord of the Rings series on Prime so far. Setting up some background for the rest of the series.

House of the Dragon has been good so far.

Anyone watching The Capture BBC iPlayer?

Enjoyable, but slightly hysterical thriller about the surveillance state that has gone all a bit Black Mirror? Or at least tried to.
