Summerwolf - Chapter 1 Shipwrecked

22nd June 1805

The main sail strained as the storm rocked the warship back and forth. All over the deck desperate sailors pulled on the lines, as Captain Opti tried in vain to control the large vessel. HMS Pisstheleague was in trouble. As the day had dawned the sky had appeared clear, but shortly after noon a large band of dark cloud had appeared on the horizon. By sunset the storm had burst upon them, and now the ship toiled in the darkness amid the violence of the brutal wind and towering waves. Sheets of seawater coated the deck causing the sailors to slip and curse aloud. Captain Opti roared his commands to the crew, as they struggled to keep the vessel afloat.

Suddenly out of the water to the bow of the ship rose a massive wall of water. ‘Rogue wave,’ screamed one young crewman, and the captain’s jaw dropped. ‘Hold on!’ he screamed and then he gritted his teeth as he steered the ship headlong at the wave. Up they rose and then the inevitable happened. The ship crashed over backwards. Captain Opti was flung against the spar and knocked unconscious.

He awoke several hours later, hearing the gentle swell of waves in the background and feeling the coarse rub of sand against his face. Sitting upright he coughed violently as his body tried to remove the remaining seawater from his lungs. After several moments he caught his breath and looked around. The beach was covered in the wreckage of HMS Pisstheleague and the bodies of the crew. Several hundred yards down the beach he could see a fire and a group of figures huddled around it. Some had survived then. Opti tried to shout for help, but his throat was too sore. ‘Help me!’ he croaked but he knew no-one could hear him.

‘Gladly,’ uttered a mischievous voice from behind him, ‘always a pleasure to serve the captain.’ A shiver ran down the nape of his neck but before Opti even had time to turn his head, a clawed paw had swiped it from his neck. It landed several feet away as arterial blood spurted from the stump in a fountain of gore.

The next morning as the sun awoke the surviving crew members awoke to a grisly site. A body had been pinned to the remnants of the ships mast and planted no more than 50 yards from where they had been resting. At its feet lay Opti’s head, his face contorted into a look of utmost terror. Scored roughly on his chest were the words, ‘Fenrir and Co. are back, and we are hungry!’

Morning all!

What a grizzly night that was! RIP Opti. I was only on board as an alternative means of transport to the rail strike action too.

We have some work to do. Drinking water is a priority.

 

I wouldn't mind being a new captain. We need a new boat though and I'd suggested HMSPissMidTable.

Anyway, glad to have remembered this time around. Last time I forgot and got lynched day 1 for not talking!

Good morning everyone. What a beautiful day. Bright sunshine and the stench of arterial blood. Bliss.

 

I've watched enough Bear Grylls to know that the first thing we need to do is start drinking our own pee.

Ignore the freshwater brook which is tricking down the island's central mountain, full of pure, cool, sweet water.

Drink pee and give ourselves an enema with some brackish lagoon water filled with seagull poop.

I couldn't sleep for all the clickety-clacking of the land crabs. They're everywhere, I feel like there is one in my shoe. Is that a crate floating out there? I dream of a bottle of rum, but right now I'd take anything. Let's see what the tide brings. We need to continue with the spirit of our Optimistic captain if we are to ever get off this godforsaken island.

Nice intro. wtf do we do now then? I'm off to find some driftwood to make a raft with. Suggest someone else goes and finds a clean water source.

I've seen enough episodes of Shipwrecked to know there's some stunning men and women on this island somewhere...and Tom Hanks.

Only thing I was picking up is 'Fenrir' is the werewolf in Harry Potter!

Fenrir is also 'Wolf God' in Norse mythology which is mainly Icelandic

But think it was just an easy/creative name for Opti to choose rather than any kind of clue?

 

Haha well remembered! Unfortunately life forced me to grow up, no late lie in's anymore
