The Boys is back for Season Three, loving it so far haven't watched the latest episode yet.

Waiting for it to be all out before we start watching it, because I hate waiting for new episodes now (thanks, Netflix!), but I've heard it's REALLY raunchy.

Best ending too (Vol 1). Cannot wait for the feature-length Vol 2.

Was worried after S3 where it was heading but it has really grown in S4. Couple of characters have been sidelined somewhat but it is a big cast now. Two of the new additions have been outstanding.

It is, there is one death in the first episode that will stick with you until the end of time.

Yeah, I was doubtful about this season and struggled to warm to it initially but binged up to 6 yesterday and it’s really good. The whole upside down thing was getting very predictable/repetitive but thankfully the story has now arced into something completely different.

New Romesh comedy. Avoidance. I like Romesh but this is terrible - slow, unfunny and a poor storyline.

I didn't see it, but if it's anything like that "King Gary" he was in, it must be bad.

It's odd as his stand up and other non-sitcom stuff is really good.

  8. I thought this looked good from the trailers but not seen it yet.

  9. Started watching Peacemaker this week after watching the second Suicide Squad a month or so ago. Up to episode 4 and really enjoying it.

Very Deadpool type style - doesn't seem to take itself too seriously and quite funny.

I like superhero stuff, more so the darker stuff generally, but do also like some of the Marvel stuff and Deadpool is great.

Thought The Suicide Squad was complete and utter crap though, so haven't bothered with Peacemaker.

  12. Suicide squad 1 or 2? 1 wasn't great but 2 was much better I thought.

Peacemaker is definitely worth a go in my opinion. Finished it this afternoon.

I much prefer the original Suicide Squad which I think got unfair treatment. Was also another victim of Warner Brothers shitting all over their director and ruining their vision, but it was still better than the new one.

Worth a go for anybody into the Scandi-crime drama shows.

The latest Taskmaster was very good. The best for about 7 or 8 series I reckon.

Obviously the two lockdown series weren't quite as dynamic as some of the other series due to the live and group tasks. There were a couple of series prior to lockdown where it had admittedly got a bit stale but found its way back. At least this week we have champion of champions of series 6-10 to look forward to this week. Although I would love to see a special mini series with just the 5th placed participants from previous series.

Sherwood (nothing to do with our former goalkeeper unfortunately) is pretty good. Part 4 of 6 is on tonight, I think. Worth watching on iPlayer if you've missed it so far.

I had some initial worries that it could go a bit Midsummer Murders: Tis Grim T’up North Edition but there is a bit more to it, including some shady State shenanigans. And the acting horsepower is out in force, with David Morrissey, Joanne Froggatt, Robert Glenister, Adeel Akhtar, Philip Jackson etc etc all putting in excellent performances. It shouts give me my ******* BAFTA!

Of course it’s a show that @zztop would have been well placed to comment on.

The Midwich Cuckoos (Sky) is the latest attempt to bring John Wyndham's classic science fiction novel of 1957 to the screen. The best known previous attempt was the 1960 Village of the Damned which, while a little shlocky conveyed the cuckoo children in an enduringly disturbing way that still makes for a meme or two now.

Sky's offering (created by the writer behind Elton John's Glasses) attempts to bring the premise up to date and this where its challenges really begin. The 1957 novel is a subtle depiction of an English village, isolated and slow to embrace modernity, with its rigid class structure a factor in how the events
the temporary loss of consciousness of all the village's inhabitants and the impregnation of all women of a child bearing age
are kept a secret. The contemporary setting makes it more difficult to believe in the concealment.

It also removes the removes the novel's greatest strengths, the characters Wyndham deftly created representing the Church, authority, mysticism and science, his subtle prose and philosophical debating. Instead all the characters are new (apart from Bernard Westcott, redeployed from Military Intelligence to the Home Office) and boy are they dull, dull, dull, unable to speculate on the things happening to them. The feel and timbre of the thing is sort of every ITV drama (I know it's Sky) you've ever seen. There are a number of grating television conventions observed too - strange events are (yawn) preceded by electrical outages
You'd think aliens traveling the vast distances of interstellar space could rock up without shorting the lights
and in the build up, horses get agitated and whinny, because horses in drama series have a kind of supernatural insight into events in exactly the same way that real horses don't.

It's not a terrible attempt, but it just makes you wish that someone would attempt a period recreation with the characters Wyndham created. This one needlessly changes the children to be ingratiating and desiring their parents' attention (they never are in the book) and squanders the best reveals with hints. The cast do a decentish job, though Max Beasley is, well, Max Beasley and Keeley Hawes does for child psychologists what David Bowie did for marine commandos in Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence. And the children, well, compared to the clipped RP of the evidently aryan, alien elite portrayed in Village of the Damned these drama school tots are simply not frightening at all.

I'm really enjoying this. The final 30 seconds of episode 2 was about as shocked as I've ever been watching a drama, (but fear I'd have done the same)!

About 4 eps into Stranger Things 4 and it’s been really good. Definitely stepped up a notch from S3.

No need to really watch given the BBC continuity announcer will handily throw in spoilers just before the start of an episode as they did tonight. Top work!

It was a very funny series and the constant threat of the lovely Sophie Duker’s baps popping out during the tasks certainly added something.

I enjoyed the Lee Mack series last year but apart from that it it had become a bit meh since the Phil Wang/James Acaster series.
