    This! I echo every word.

Every appointment is a gamble. Only time will tell. But my initial feeling is positive. He’s a proper football man. He’s on the up. Maybe we will be a step too high for him, but I doubt that.

Rewind a week. We’d just suffered our 11th consecutive home defeat. Awful. If somebody had told us then that in a few days time we’d be appointing a young British coach, fresh from him winning a trophy and being voted the best manager in his league, a coach with a reputation for good, attacking, pressing football, renowned for giving young players a chance, and a guy who is a positive and eloquent presence etc, would we not have been pleased?

The days of prickly grumpy press conferences are nearly over. Of going to our matches feeling full of despair. Of poor in-game management and use (or lack of) subs. Hopefully of everybody pulling in opposite directions too.

Next season’s Championship will be full of sides lead by progressive, younger managers. And now we have one too. Welcome Rob.

At the risk of appearing like I'm accusing the club of being canny in some way, I think that we were planning for this possibility a year ago. The loans of some of our allegedly better young players (Quina, TDB, Pollock, etc.) as well as others like Zinckernagel seemed to me to be a hedge against potential relegation. Unlike past year, we should be able to sell off players who likely don't want to play in the Championship (Sarr, Dennis) and let a few others go and actually be in a relatively decent financial position. We should be able to bring in a few decent younger players (plus perhaps a few savvy Championship calibre veterans) and make a decent go of things with a manager who can develop the younger players. The Pozzos have given plenty of reasons to be angry with them and question their decisions, but they haven't got everything wrong by any means. Now I'm not going to give them credit for planning this - clearly they wanted to stay in the Prem and keep on with "the Plan". However I do think they were smart enough to recognize some of their mistakes and that conditions have changed since they bought the club (Brexit and the various new restrictions on loans in particular) and at least to some degree adapt to those conditions.

Hopefully this fella turns out to be the next great manager.

It will be interesting to see what if any changes there are in recruitment practices, scouting and the academy, as well as what sort of back room staff he brings on.

Ok turns out his middle name is actually Owen. Think this covers the scouting assignment.

    Good luck to him.

    Probably need it !

Shame the club have got themselves into more of a PR mess to get him .

Hopefully will get time and a group of players that want to work in his way .

If we want him then we’ll get him…or whatever nonsense those bluenoses came up with

On a separate note I will be mightily marked off if he’s presented tonight pre game and it stops the rotten vegetables being thrown at Woy. Only reason I’m going

He's come from a vegan club. I presume he's use to mouldy old rotten veg and the associated stink that comes with it, and may even join in.

So, we've appointed a new coach from a fourth-tier club which has just finished top of their league. I seem to remember we did this once before, with a chap named Taylor, if anybody recalls him?

This guy really needs to report us then surely? Not sure what good is done by continuously speaking to the media about it.

I really hope we haven’t just assumed his contract situation from an agent or something silly. Their owner hasn’t endeared himself really but if the contract is as he says, you can see why he’d be upset.

But there again, he says ‘Edwards left’ - but if he’s contracted without a get-out, surely he has to offer his resignation and have it accepted? If their chairman has done that, I’m not sure what he’s hoping to gain after the event.

Anyways best of luck Rob. Who on Earth you're going to get our overpaid cack doing the kind of pressing FGR were doing last season is beyond me.
But after reading a few articles on him I'm more than happy with him being in charge. Already looking forward to seeing what he can achieve given the right players and most of all time.

It just doesn't add up at the moment. If what he says is true then Edwards is under contract until 2024 with no break clause. As a result, why would they let him leave and wish him well rather than point out he's under contract and the approach was illegal? The law and the footballing authorities would be entirely on their side.

The only way I can see is if their chairman has decided he doesn’t want to work with him anymore and has accepted his resignation or sacked him on a moral standpoint.

A disappointing appointment, but what did we expect?
We have very little money, massive debts, a poor squad of players and a terrible reputation within the Football World.
Looks like the club expect a long stay in the Championship or below.
    Good luck to him.

He doesn't need to do that, though. It's wholly contrary to the club's interests given they would have a cast iron case for compensation. Furthermore, even if he decided to act as described you'd think he would have announced it publicly given the apparent comfort with airing the dirty laundry on Twitter.

Just seems like very odd behavior to me.

Errrm, Forest Green Rovers have had a Director of Football, Richard Hughes, since 2019 (before Edwards arrived) - and he'd spent a year as their Head of Recruitment prior to that. Hughes even rejected an offer to become DoF at Portsmouth a few days ago.
