God give me the unfounded confidence of LR, to endlessly argue the toss with someone who actually works in football analysis based on the idea that his eyes swear to him that a player is nothing like 5'6'' and how dare you even suggest it, you idiot - he's closer to 5'7''.
Under contract for another 18 months Just total set-piece goals, couldn't be bothered to work out conversion rate, although just realised StatsBomb has goals per corner which is the same. Palace ranked 20th last year, 19th for 19/20 and 20th for 18/19 for goals per corner taken. xG per corner taken was 20th last year, 19th in 19/20 and 11th in 18/19 (not sure what happened in this season!) - so looks about right
Well stocked at RB as well m8. We have Kiko who showed top top PL quality v Newcastle, and Kucka as his backup.
I reckon/hope Roy relies on and helps Ngakia find his feet. He had a great impact on Wan-Bissaka and Mitchell at Palace and Jezza has a lot of the same raw qualities.
Nonsense I'm sure - because it's purely just a one line sentence in their 'Every Club' transfer article. But The Daily Mail are linking us with Marcus Tavernier of Middlesbrough.
Good player. We were after him years ago when he just started breaking through and the Pozzos do like going back in for their long-term targets. But if I were him I’d stick with Boro and Wilder.
Ok, thanks. Now I know. I’ll provide some evidence for my statement. You’re welcome to provide some for yours. AWB is known for being a high volume defender and good at dribbling and not offering much quality in the final third. So too with Mitchell. Per FBref, Ngakia is 99th percentile for tackles, 99th percentile for interceptions, 99th percentile for pressures, 93rd percentile for aerials won and 86th percentile for dribbles completed. At 21. He is error prone and raw but how can you not see his a player of potential? Particularly to develop into the Mitchell/AWB type defender who offers little going forward. Whether he will be close to being as good as them is another matter but I think he is that style of player and Roy could well enjoy developing him and entrusting him just as he did with Mitchell and AWB: https://fbref.com/en/players/3631ad41/scout/365_euro/Jeremy-Ngakia-Scouting-Report For reference here is AWB’s 17/18 season stats per FBref and Mitchell’s from the last year: https://fbref.com/en/players/9e525177/scout/1631/Aaron-Wan-Bissaka-Scouting-Report https://fbref.com/en/players/5cbd1eb0/scout/365_euro/Tyrick-Mitchell-Scouting-Report
I honestly couldn't tell you what Ngakia is good at. Much like Femenia he's too timid to actually do anything useful
He's pretty good as a one-on-one defender, right up until he isn't. That's the problem, but, in fairness, also quite possibly because of his callow nature.
I'd much rather have Ngakia who tries to stop an opponent than Kiko who socially distances from them.
Interesting. I wonder if Boro will accept a loan and we have to option to buy him for 100k in the summer?
I don't doubt Hodgson can make Ngakia a better defender as he's young enough to take info on like a sponge - but I don't think the raw ability is there to be much, much better than he is. I have my doubts over what Kiko can be taught. He's much older and his weaknesses seem pretty in-built rather than something he can be coached out of.
It's not a matter of coaching Kiko out of his weaknesses, it's a matter of taking him to see The Wizard. If Roy doesn't know the way, then that's it.
Tackles, interceptions and pressures perhaps? Seeing as he is 99th percentile for each in the PL this season. Even last season, where we had a lot more of the ball (so you’d expect our defenders’ numbers to be lower as a result), only Christopher Schindler had more tackles+interceptions per 90 than Ngakia out of all championship defenders. He is a prodigious ball winner and a good dribbler. He does lack quality with the ball though and will need to cut out errors if he wants to be an impressive defensive full back. But the raw materials are there and I reckon Roy will enjoy working with him.
DeAndre Yedlin has terminated his contract with Galatasaray after one year. The club said the decision was by mutual consent. The 28-year-old previously played for Tottenham for the second half of the 2014/15 season and appeared in one match against Aston Villa. He was loaned to Sunderland for the 2015/16 season before spending four and a half years at Newcastle. Anyone remember him?
Yep, I think he was sh1t. I’m fairly certain he played when won 3-0 at Newcastle and was terrible. Stupid hair as well
He’s obviously not the finished article. I have cited these stats to show that he has a skillset I think Roy can work with given his record with players of a similar style.
Ngakia is similar to Ward as well according to that. Ward also played a lot under Hodgson, it's time to kick Kiko to the kerb.
Leventhal has doubled down in the latest FTRE on his belief that there will be no more incomings. He (once again) says that WTE and Kabasele returning will be seen as good enough at CB. He also doesn’t mention Sema as a departure. Also a bit surprised there’s been no rumours about Bachmann as you’d assume he’s pushing for a transfer now….
Bizarre how he said the club might decide to keep Kabasele and WTE as backups. Backups to who, Cathcart and Sierralta?? The whole centre back department is full of players who should be backups!
I’d dismissed the Pozzos as callous and arrogant when it comes to reinforcing our defence, but maybe they just have serious mental retardation.
Unless he just thinks that Foster is now so old and fragile he'll still get to play 50% of the time even as a #2 ?
The dumbest thing is that Cathcart was a backup in the Championship yet by some miracle is first choice in the PL
He's nothing more than a glove puppet at the very most. I've lost interest on his on the fence views. Yes he has some info but no more than a few on here.
