Quietly hopeful for this game and I'm glad the Burnley game is off tbh. Imagine our lot up at Burnley midweek in this weather.... We never perform up there.! We'll be fresh for Norwich and another week of training under our belt. We will be be a stronger unit by the time Burnley is rearranged (says hopefully).
If we don't win comfortably I hope Ranieri is sacked. Even that Spanish PE teacher managed to get a win over this lot.
Win or down. Norwich are worse now than when we beat them twice last year. Want to be able to let out a Dan Gosling roar at FT.
Fletcher up front. It's 0-0 going into the 92nd minute. He then scores a Chris Eagles "esq" vs Brighton goal (if anyone remembers that ).
From his pasty complexion and eye bags Pukki is clearly lactose intolerant. It maybe a worthwhile tactic to slip some condensed milk into his HT drink.
Adam Leventhal on Norwich fan YouTube channel tomorrow. Might get some insights (which he's probably mostly lifted from this site):
Our record in the top flight at home to the bottom teams (or the next team up when we ourselves finished bottom) is actually almost impeccable, though we’ve sometimes made heavy weather of them (notably the 3-2 win against Villa in the dying seconds against ten men) - 100% record in the Pozzo era, and just the surprise 0-0 draw against Wolves in 1982-88 and the 2-2 against Charlton after being 2-0 up (a game that confirmed to me we were down). Incidentally, I looked up who scored in the 3-0 home win against Oxford and all of our goals came from midfield, Glyn Hodges scoring a brace and Rick Holden the other. This summed up our goal-scoring problems, and I was wondering how our strikers did, and to my surprise I found out Luther only scored a measly four. Was he out a lot of the season, or did he just receive terrible service?
I remember that goal at the athletics track. I am sure Eagles was closer to their goal when he scored than I was to the pitch.
Wasnt Luther in and out of the team? Bassett went with Senior quite a bit. Actually saw he played 25 games so think we were just rubbish that year. My first season ticket
We create plenty of chances and score goals. In fact we rarely don't score. Dennis has gone two games without scoring, its hardly terrible form and he had to have a late fitness test before the Newcastle game, we hardly set up to played to his strengths against Tottenham. I am anticipating Ranieri to set us up on the front foot with a high intensity press on Friday night and this will suit our front line more.
That was a terrible season. I think Luther was top scorer with 4. Finished 9th the year before but Bassett tore that side apart
I remember us being so toothless. 0-1 home losses to Coventry, Norwich, Saints. 0-3 to Chelsea. Bad times.
Believe it or not though, that was our best season in the top flight in terms of goals conceded per game - I guess Jackett still being in the team had something to do with that (I couldn’t name any other defenders from that season as it was long before I became a fan). But yeah, you can’t hope to stay up with only 27 goals…
That was the season we moved to the Upper Rous. After a couple of months I advertised my season ticket for sale in the Wobby. "Upper Rous season ticket for sale. Brilliant view, terrible football." As published, the ad stopped at "brilliant view". When I complained, they said the last bit was disrespectful to the club. That was the point, I said. Didn't get a refund, which still rankles.
I was only a twinkle in my dads eye during those days of us in the top flight under Graham Taylor, so i’m only going off Wikipedia and other sites.. but prior to that disastrous season under Bassett, we were a fairly consistent top flight team for 5 consecutive seasons - finishing 2nd (incredible!), 11th, 11th, 12th and 9th. And then suddenly finishing 20th under Bassett.. What a shame. It’s one of those ‘What if’s’ had Taylor stayed and kept building the team. I know football’s a small margin game but in hindsight, we could have become a seriously big team if we held on to that consistency until the Premier League money came in.
We still had Jackett, Gibbs, John McClelland and of course Coton so defensively we were pretty good. Total opposite to current team!
Falco and Barnes leaving, Bardsley and Sims dropped, Senior, Agana, Chivers and Morris coming in. Dark days indeed.
Gary Chivers was right back, Mark Morris centre back and worst of all, Mel Rees in goal in place of Tony Coton. Bassett wasn't keen on GT loyalists. At Wimbledon his playeres owed everything to him, at Watford they didn't. So he brought in mediocrities unable to make a comparison between the two regimes.
Kamara should be able to get forward at least. We should have good balance with some overlap potential. I'll believe a clean sheet when I see one, but we should score.... several.
