I've not noticed a thread about the video game, where would it be?

I use a PS4, a few of our players are annyingly not included, including Tom DB. What I do is spend some time to create the players I'd have liked to be in the game.

I know the game isn't a perfect representation of football, it's just some fun, innit?

Went to go buy it this morning from Tesco's and the customer service section was closed. Loads of people were being turned away, missed a trick there.

Gonna wait until December when Xbox Game Pass and whatever the EA version merges so I get it for free, not worth the £50 each year!

Xbox player here. Fired it up for a game or two on my lunch break.

Whilst my offline play seemed fairly enjoyable, it didn’t seem like there was too much movement on previous editions...

The true acid test will be playing it online as this is my preference.

Looks like they ditched fitness cards in FUT which is welcome as always been a total coin drain.

Looks the exact same as last years, which was pretty crap. Won't be bothering this year

I disagree, the defending is different to begin with, will need practise to be any good.

I just play career mode. A few transfers needed to be done, including Doucs and Bobby P still in the squad, and needing to get Sema and Ekong.

The coaching is more FM in it being kinda detailed with changes of position etc.

I like it show a -6 or whatever when a player is out of position. Hughes is -2 as a CM! Bizarre.

Not played it enough yet though to give a decent review.

EA Sports ? You don't say Ashdon. I'd rather stick my face into a glass window than touch anything created by them. The ruin of many a decent franchise and development studio. SOS every year. New this and that which was in there previously but is now reworded.

It's a terrible game and EA Sports are a terrible organization. Electronic Arts in general. Stultifying development and suffocating competition by legal means or buying them out. No better than most giant corporations. And using peer pressure to make fortunes for their dreadful products with all that FUT garbage.

Same to both, I find defending slightly bit clunkier than previous but the attacking AI is far superior to 20. Can see a lot of high scoring games in this edition.

I'm waiting until after the update on the 16th before firing up a Watford Career Mode, that way all players will be in the squad.

Finally completely tapping out this year and not putting any more of my money in the pocket the plague on the industry that is EA. Downloaded the 10 hour trial, played for about 3 hours, then thought "this is f**king awful... again", uninstalled it, and instantly felt a lot better about life.

It's just incredibly dated at this point. Are there a few minor improvements? Yes, but it's still effectively the same game that it's been for YEARS. The same bugs, the same flaws, the same frustrations, and the same complete lack of genuine evolution in anything other than Ultimate Team, which is all they care about. The animations, the graphics, the physics, it's all just crap and has hardly changed for so, so long. I actually went back and played the FIFA World Cup 2014 game on PS3 the other day and it's actually laughable how similar it is.

Find as many ways to addict people to Ultimate Team gambling. It's all EA is bothered about.

Say it quietly but PES 20 was a far better football game last year.

It was. Not without it's flaws either but much better. Gonna get PES 2021 on PC and try out some mods.

Isn't it pretty much the same every year? I used to buy it religiously, before realising it's actually crap.

Basically. With a few small tweaks, but they know people will lap it up, so why bother I suppose?

Their latest plan seems to be to add features to career mode that used to be in the game but they removed. They've added the ability to hop into a match while simming it, which I believe was a feature way back in 2007(?). So lazy.

Nothing will be better than FIFA WC 98 and the indoor 5-a-side mode.

Only really play fifa to do co-op seasons with my mate. Cba to buy this whilst I can still do it on the old game.

The games seem to be getting progressively worse with more ******** happening each new game.

That was awesome. Went with Austria (randomly) and used to destroy the 5-a-side mode!

Switched to PES last year and couldn't get on board with it at all. It was incredibly frustrating how long it took players to do any action after pressing the button. Back on FIFA this year and while gameplay is basically the same I do like the long overdue career mode changes.

PES6 was great. I did a lot of work on option files for South America and young players. Facemaker and stadium modder. Juce was and is a legend for his kitserver now replaced by his and Neca's slider for PES2019 onwards. You can mod anything for the PC now.

Speaking of PES2022 it will be using the Unreal 4 engine. Apparently development work has been in progress for two years in conjunction with Sony providing hardware specs for the PS5 so Konami can make best use of it. The same engine will operate on the PC platform as well which is great news.

It may well look like. As Spoony says the company Visual Lane is using Unreal 4 for this VR presentation of Old Trafford. Amazing detail and changes in real time ie shading, lighting and weather. Can't wait to see Vicarage Road recreated by someone. :p The visuals should be spectacular I just hope the AI, Masterleague is improved significantly.

Constantly get the backhanded "intimate venue for todays game" at the vic.

Also they had a snowy pitch - whereas the real vic is heated. Unplayable. 2/10.

First news from PES2022 this year is that Atalanta Bergamo have signed an exclusivity deal. Other than that all very quiet. As usual the first look at these games will be at the usual convocations where game developers show off their wares to the gaming journalist community so at two months. Napoli SSC will also be exclusive in the following season.Personally I dislike these deals.

As before just hoping the AI and game modes have made a huge leap forward to parallel what will no doubt be stunning visuals.

The developer leading the design of PES2022 seems to be focusing mainly on the photorealistic aspect of the game. This concerns many. It is all well and good having shiny visuals but they need to be backed up by immersive intelligent gameplay from the AI such as the setting of lines, defensive awareness and runs into space and even knowing where the touchline is. Without that it's just empty.

Could not agree more UEA. The trailer they revealed was diabolical. No gameplay, the graphicS were awful and it looked no different indeed worse than PES2021.

No modes at launch but to be added possibly as DLC. Just a handful of sides they have partnered with, loss of the serie A license. Two years of expectation and once again Konami never fails to disappoint. It perhaps is not that much of a surprise given the changes in the development team. The model is clearly to cater to the very casual gamer, young kids and earn fortunes with microtransactions.

Microtransactions are the bane of modern sports games. Something has to be done in law because they encourage spending often without parental knowledge or consent and in effect it is a form of gambling. It's a dark day for those of us who have played PES from the heady days through the nadir to what seemed to be the recovery only for it to be ditched in favour of mammon.

This pursuit of mammon is a disease. Hence numerous worthless films, books, TV series and dreadful popular music all in the name of eking more out of the often dumbed down consumer. You could pick up and play PES out of the box. But it took time to master. That was part of the joy of it. Hours on the training pitch.

And the community. What a community it was. I was honoured to be part of it creating faces in o-edit, stadiums in Rhinoceros. Indeed @nornironhorn I was created the faces for most of the Northern Ireland side for PES6 and other nations not blessed with 'real' faces. Now the disease of mammon has percolated into the ranks of the community. Sites selling option files to console gamers, other modders selling their work be it kits, faces, stadiums on the web. When once it was all done for love of the community at large and the excitement of seeing these additions thanks to Lord Juce and his kitserver into the game.

Konami have shat on that community loyal to a fault and this is the last straw. I will not be playing PES whatever they call it efootball2022. And what is worse FIFA shows no signs of actually improving. There are no football games worth playing which is pretty sad for the global sport.

A sad state of affairs. Two garbage franchises. The same old rubbish, the lying slogans. All these two EA and Konami care about is revenue. Not the independent developers desire to make a game as exciting and attention grabbing as possible. Not to mention somewhat realistic. End of the line for me.

Desperately need an open source developer group or other studio to get involved. Most modders can do a better job than the idiots who run both projects.

I have not played Madden for a decade I think. I am considering Madden 22 for the PS5. I was searching the relevant videos and found this which shows how EA Sports sit on their backsides for the most part when 2K always put in the effort and extra touches. Some of the animations for are natural in 2K as opposed to Madden.

The best NFL game ever ? All-Pro Football 2K8 just after EA decided to silence the competition with an exclusive license with the NFL. Shame.

I was lucky enough to get hold of a ps5 to pick up from store in the next few days.

For those who have the console, how you getting on with it? Like it so far? Pros and any cons?

    Pros:

Runs whisper quietly - good ventilation (Sony have learnt well from their failed attempt at a PS3 cooling fan).
Loading times reduced down to almost PC speed - pretty impressive.
Really good processor - able to run 4K gaming
Much better user interface than even the PS4.
Online store and connectivity improved greatly.
PS5 has to be one of the best gaming pads ever designed - the triggers are something else.

    Cons:

It looks like a demented toaster.
It weighs a ton (not really a con)
Not as powerful as the XBOX Series X which is a shame.
Very few games that are built to engage with the new hardware
    Price.

It's effectively a beta which is a disgrace after the supposed 2 year cycle they were working on. Adding modes as DLC and other bits and pieces such as 3D grass is a shambolic effort. The shame being the gameplay is decent better than FIFA if hardly anything stellar. Both games are a disgrace really.

@SkylaRose still to get one. Might wait until next year but have collected several PS5 games in preparation most including haptic feedback on the controllers such as Terminator Resistance and updated A Plague Tale:Innocence.
