It was a genuine documentary in the U.K. before this latest series, for some reason they decided to copy the Australian version which is essentially just Love Island with a different name.

I don’t know, some did some didn’t from memory. I don’t think any of them really worked out because ultimately you can think two people are matched on paper all you like, but chemistry is really just unquantifiable. It did genuinely seem like a proper documentary though. I think they’ve switched to this new format simply because it’s more popular, in the same way that millions of people watch rubbish like the X factor or mrs browns boys.

  5. Oh geez Mrs Brown's Boys. What the hell is that all about. So so so so so awful. I can't fathom what the audience is that would like that.

    Plastic Pub goers.

"Save our pubs" screamed everyone during lockdown. In March, as soon as restrictions were lifted the pub gardens were full of hat wearing people supping a pint, "saving our pubs".

Tonight is fairly mild and I've been running some errands so did a fair few miles on local roads. The pubs are empty.

30 degree plus heat. Too hot to walk anywhere, too hot to sit out in the sun. I’m in Crete and whilst it’s great to have dinner out in the evening overlooking the sea, there’s nothing else to do for the rest of the day if you’re not into BBQing your body.

It's autumn. It should be damp and foggy, 18 degrees.
Not my choice....I wanted to come here in October !

I'm proud to report that I did my bit to support the pub trade in London, Norwich and Chorleywood over the weekend.
Maybe a hard hitting advertising campaign is needed to get people off of their sofas and into their local. Something like this perhaps...

Anybody who was involved in sitting on the M25 last week causing long delays and stopping people going about their business. I don't have any idea what cause this was for but was just hoping one of the very many pi55ed off lorry drivers decided just to drive through them. That would stop it

Off on a slight tangent, but still associated, I've always thought this sort of direct action would be a much more effective terrorist strategy than some of the stuff the pie in the sky big hits they go for. Could paralyse half the country for days by using 10 HGVs and blowing them up in the middle of major roads/motorways/key junctions. The economic damage would be huge.

Just last week driving up to my daughters Uni we had a morbid conversation about how we could cause most disruption if we were terrorists. Two conclusions we came to pretty quickly. Firstly it would be frighteningly easy to massively disrupt all forms of travel without a lot of effort. Secondly we're lucky that terrorists seem to be rather dim.

Yup. And that's without getting into the completely innocuous looking bits of infrastructure which are actually assets of national security importance that are dotted all over the place once you know where to look, but probably just walk past most days without a second glance (as is the intent of the design).

[And no, MI5bot watching this thread, I'm not going to PM them to anyone]

Wasn’t there a fire at the the power plant where we receive electricity from France the other day? Apparently it will be out of action for months further adding to the energy crisis. I certainly had no idea that existed.

Not sure what that has to do with it, my point was that with pubs now having been open for several months we are getting back to normal and for obvious reasons you would expect Sunday nights to be quiet just as they would have been pre-Covid.

Maybe not the most disruption but a couple of machine guns at Euston at 5.30pm would be the easiest way to take lives and cause chaos.

Somebody in The Times suggested that people convicted after this should do community service insulating people's lofts. Buying the insulation themselves would be good.

Now the big problem there is that people can run away. Too many exits. You definitely haven't thought this through.

Yeah I know, you win, but my initial post was borne out of frustration that we don't use our pubs enough and will lose them eventually.

Well, I agree wholeheartedly with that point. But I am guilty here because I have only been into a couple of pubs myself since lockdown lifted. I'm still a bit cautious and maybe others are too?

OK that's an excellent point that I didn't even consider. Original post #2351 officially withdrawn.

A woman had a stroke stuck in the traffic and couldn't get help because of the jams. She's now paralysed and this group take no responsibility and take the same action.

It's punishing the wrong people and utterly immoral.

How many standing watching the display screen. How many could you take down in 30 seconds ? Yes there are exits for those that can outrun a bullet.

Stumbled across a 3 part Netflix documentary about the Paris terror attacks the other night. It was moving, terribly sad but compelling viewing (although not the best timing to watch it on my part as a parent, as my 15 yr old was off to a gig at The Brixton Academy the following evening). One interesting thing to come across from the accounts of those who were taken hostage at The Bataclan was how dumb the terrorists were - for example, at one point asking for walkie-talkies so they could speak to the police, before having a “lightbulb moment” that they could use a phone. Unfortunately, if you have a Kalashnikov you don’t need a lot of brainpower to inflict a lot of damage.

I saw a clip earlier today on a news site (BBC maybe?) of a driver confronting the protesters. I thought he handled it very well because, instead of simply hurling obscenities at them, he pointed out that their protests were causing more pollution due to the number of vehicles now stationary with their engines running; that they were targeting and punishing the wrong people; and that, far from gaining support for the cause from their actions, they were making people hate them.

Yes I heard about that. Absolutely dreadful for the woman and her family and yet as you say, they continue to protest. There should be a charge against them for the fate of this poor woman
