Indeed. I have no idea how a professional referee can have looked at that one with tv replays and decide that it wasn’t a penalty. They are so incompetent.

Exactly. Both were ‘modern’ penalty shouts where the attacker initiates the contact as he goes down and expects it to be seen as a foul. We used to call them dives.

Yeah, the first two 'penalties' for Ronnie were both 100% dives, it's no wonder he was dismissed on the third one, although it's harder to see how it got through the VAR check.

First one I agree. Not second one though - he just misses the ball and cleans Ronaldo out.

Yup, second one looked pretty clear cut pen to me too

Ronaldo was playing for a penalty every time. He tried to con the ref with the first two, so when he does actually get fouled, the referee is never going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Had he been honest, without trying to trick the official, then he'd probably have been given the last penalty.

Think they will win the league - hopefully before the last day of the season !

Why are Brighton playing so well all of a sudden? Has Potter going to do a Leicester? Saying that, established, settled side and something we could be if we work hard enough.

3 times he went down before any contact

They play their ' pretendy, wee' derby next.

Lesta's disallowed goals both seemed harsh, given that the Brighton keeper wouldn't have gotten to either of them even if Barnes hadn't been there.

Mr Integrity's face was a picture though.

And the penalty was soft because the Leicester player was getting his arm pulled.

Scoring a few goals I guess which helps unlike last season ,

And I don’t think any ref is going to give 2/3 penalties to Man U away from unless they are so obvious if he wants to get out of the ground alive .

At Old Trafford it might be a different story !

So Kane facing another season of nothingness at Spurs whilst Man City having a problem scoring goals. Would have been a great move for him.

Yes, I was thinking how depressed he must have been feeling as the Chelsea goals went in.

I think the 2017/18 Burnley is a better comparison TBH, they're basically nicking results and/or playing teams out of form, and it's unlikely to last - but then we said the same about Burnley...

Looking at how inconsistent the supposedly better teams are, our prospects of staying up don't look so bad all of a sudden.

Leicester, Wolves, West Ham and even Spurs all flattering to deceive and looking beatable (but sadly we blew our best chance against Wolves last weekend), even Man City have been held at home by struggling Southampton.

The only problem is that apart from Norwich the strugglers may be able to take advantage which means we would need a higher points total to stay up than in recent previous seasons.

  18. Chumlax

I'm not too sure this holds up, given that we've already lost to fully half of the teams you name as looking beatable.

As you say, if it is indeed true that they are, it works doubly against us as our rivals may well take advantage, whilst we have already failed to.

City really should have pushed the boat out for him, even if it meant passing up Grealish who they didn't really need anyway.

It does sort of serve Kane right for signing a ridiculously long deal when he did, especially with Levy as his paymaster.

Isn’t Haaland available for a relative bargain at the end of the season? He’ll be the far better long term bet for City, even if it means scraping by this season without a decent striker.

If anything, it means that while we might be on for 40+ points if we can play to our maximum, 40+ points might be what is necessary!

I think they're playing about as well as last season, and while I wouldn't say they were 'unlucky' last season as, after all, finishing is an important skill, it was always unlikely that they'd continue on such a comically bad run of form in front of goal. Right now I think if anything they're overperforming their expected goals, and yesterday they got that bit of luck that they didn't seem to get last season with decisions

There's no guarantee he goes to City though.

It will probably be between City and Utd for his signature next summer. Real could have an outside chance, but Haaland seems to favour the PL.

Pep's contract situation and potential falling out with the fans could count against City.

As my comment above, it's a risk as they might still miss out on him.

TalkSPORT discussing a bit about our game at the weekend and about Norwich at the moment (not listening to them through choice, honest! At Watford General at the moment), and while I kind of agree with some of their points, Adrian Durham's smarminess is making me want to aggressively come to their defence! I agree with them that other than possibly Normann and Kabak (who I think both made their debuts at the weekend), I don't they added what they needed most in terms of their transfer dealings, but they are going on like they were miles better than us and Brentford last season and that we've left them behind in the summer, as if we didn't earn more points than them last season when we were able to name serious XIs under Xisco, and didn't beat them twice fairly comfortably. As for Brentford, I said this at the time, I thought they'd be able to adapt to the Prem quite well, and would be able to strengthen their squad, and although it's early days, I think that's coming to pass at the moment

Well they have had a tough run.

And we seem to be a bogey team to them.

Even next week Norwich have Everton away .

Their confidence will be shot though .

The defence looks petty poor and their team isn’t settled yet .

    Hope you are well ?

Nothing major, thanks, should be back up and running (not literally, I'm a lazy **** haha) in a few days! For their sake, they'd hope that they can get up and running soon, though I'm not sure how much difference their new players will make given that they played the exact same open way as they did two seasons ago, I saw little concerted effort to stop Sarr when other teams knew exactly what to do with him

There is nothing wrong with what Norwich do and they shouldn’t get grief for it, to me though, it seems the problem is the manager, 5 wins in 43 PL games is pretty abysmal. I’m not for a second suggesting they get BFS in and rip up their model, but you’d have to assume there might be other managers out there who could possibly do a bit better? I know he’s obviously very good at getting them out of the championship, but the way he achieves that just very clearly doesn’t remotely translate to the PL.

Agreed, they clearly don't have the players to make BigSamBall work best, but I'm sure there's some progressive manager out there who could get better results out of that squad. Eddie Howe's been out of a job for a good while now...

What he’s doing just seems the definition of madness, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Ultimately the championship is crap, the forwards are crap and can barely trouble half decent players, so he can easily get them out of the championship but then the PL is an entirely different beast. If you want to survive you have to adapt, but he doesn’t seem willing to and just wants to keep playing the same way on the basis it will eventually pay off. The way they sell their best players and the amount they end up reinvesting, means it will probably take him 10 seasons of yo-yoing to enhance that team to the point that his methods could keep them up. It just seems like there must be a happy medium in terms of a managerial approach where they can walk the championship, and then not absolutely stink the place out the next season and at least be in the relegation mix.

Bloke's clearly a decent manager or else he wouldn't have got them up in the first place (I don't think they were very fancied at all in 18/19?), but yes, he seems far more suited to the Championship. Jury is out on their forwards (Pukki is what he is, exceptional in the Championship, average in the Prem, Sargent is a workhorse who might do alright this season, and Tzolis is a very young lad I haven't seen too much of), but their midfield seems tidy but ultimately fairly ineffective (unless Normann hits the ground running), and their defence seems exposed. Relegation faves for sure, but I reckon there's someone who can get more out of them, it's whether they want to take the plunge given that relegation isn't a death sentence to them
