Wouldn't be surprised if we sign some free agent dross again like Lazaar and Sanchez (appearance against Reading aside)
Wouldn’t mind Aurier - but it wouldn’t be something that happens tonight either way. And I think it’s well known he wants out of English football so I think it’s very unlikely.
Made me chuckle... "Great news I've heard Newcastle United are signing Neymar! That's Neymar defenders, Neymar midfielders and Neymar strikers." (Stolen from the BBC)
Agreed. I can understand needing to do things on the cheap, but going into a fight for survival with an intentionally thin squad just seems crazy. Especially with everything over the past few days to clear out players. I know it's not as easy as snapping your fingers and making moves happen, but our vaunted brain trust sometimes does strange things.
You can often rely on Watford for a surprise signing on deadline day, so I’d stayed hopeful of a defender (or yet another CM). Looks like there’s no time left for anything though and I can’t lie: I’m disappointed right now. The team has definite weak areas that ideally would be addressed. I think when the dust has settled I’ll be positive about the business overall.
Don't have that long squad has to be clarified by tomorrow. Can't register players in the prem outside windows
I think our last hope here is we are negotiating with Fulham to get a defender coming the other way. It’s a reach I know. Last hope.
The talking head on Sky has said Betis, Spartak Moscow and Genoa have all shown interest but Aurier has insisted he sees himself at a higher level than them. So it ain’t happening if that’s his honest opinion.
So that's it then - this tweet basically sums it up: And that was without a period of the season we literally knew we would be without one of our first choice pairing, to boot.
I thought he said Watford, but Sky silenced him as he said the word ‘Watford’…..lol. They’re ******* aren’t they.
Yeah, I thought letting Pollock go would signal a new CB. Still time for deal sheets but highly unlikely.
Wobby saying Chalobah and Quina leaving finishes our window. We deserve relegation for our continued attitude towards the defence
Pleased with the signings we have made and those we have managed to shift but the failure to strengthen the centre of defence (or even just ensure we have numbers there) is inexcusable As others have already said it will 100%, nailed on, cost us this season. Louza money would have been much better spent on a CB
From Watford observer 11:21pm Quina deal done as well - details to follow, but both deals have now been confirmed. 11:20pm Chalobah deal done!
I like the incomings and we have done very well with the outgoings and to get them off the books. But I just cannot shake the feeling we have left ourselves horribly horribly short. I get all the talk of free agents - but I just think unfilled squad spaces at this stage is the sign of a club with a questionable strategy in place and no real idea what they are doing with defensive matters. It’s almost unprofessional IMO the way they disregard it each and every time.
I can see it now... Masina is going to end up at CB this season just in time for the Christmas fixtures.
Definitely worrying that we have been unable to get any of our players who are going into the last year off their deals (Hughes, Chalobah and possibly Quina if he was offered one) to sign a new contract with our 50% wage reduction clause.
Talent wise yes. But he also has as many mistakes in him as Kabasele and WTE. But when he’s on it, far better than current options.
And no relegation clause which maybe made a difference. Hughes getting 60k at Palace - doubt we would offer that much.
