No guarantee it had anything to do with the relegation clause at all.

He’s going to fail the medical isn’t he. And we will have to reduce the fee

Didn't he take the medical yesterday?
Or do they have a more robust form in Thornton Heath due to the violent nature of the district?

Viera says Hughes will give him different options. Very true, Viera now has so many options: dismissal, redundancy, the sack, the opportunity to search for new employment, the chance to spend more time with his family......

To be fair, Xisco seems quite keen on Sissoko.

I think the method is to sell him and replace him with a midfielder who played in a Champions League final and has 71 caps for France. Works for me.

Brenda Todgers level of bulls*it from Hughes in that interview.

Total cu*t. Like him as a player but we are far better off without his sort. Sissosko, Kuca & Ozan are of far higher quality.

Bye Will. Enjoy warming Palarse’s bench.

There’s nothing about the interview that wasn’t necessarily true at the time. For whatever reason he didn’t like our offer.

Maybe he was lying then, but what of it? You can’t have footballers under contract saying it’s been a great season, but I’m really hoping to jump ship because he may have been happy with the offer to come or have to see out his contract anyway.

Tittle tattle as GT used to say.

Slightly off subject, but did anyone see that recent survey that said "The Vic" is the worst ground in the Premier League.

I know we are not as big and shiny as many of the PL grounds, but to say our ground is worse than "Smellhurst Park" is absolutely bonkers, unless there have been HUGE improvements since my last visit, which I don't think there has been o_O

I can't wait for Hughes to try his shirt pull stunt on Sissoko. Moussa will end up dragging the little runt along with him!

Very smart FT Rookery Jon, but that method didn't require isolating Hughes for the first 3 matches of the season.

We have no idea what shittery was put in front of him. Speculation about relegation, clause, 60k a week etc is just that.

I will judge hughes on what I saw with my own eyes and that was a player who scrapped almost alone against relegation and helped us back up.

If it was a survey of away fans they're not going to be far wrong. The facilities in the Vic Rd End are dire.

That's not your call though. If someone doesn't want to be there you have to prepare for life without them and you want to avoid the 'Capoue' effect.

I'm not suggesting Hughes wouldn't have been professional and I doubt he'd be toxic, but we've seen how players can be distracted so it's the management's call whether they want to run the risk. They've chosen not to and to be honest it's their call.

Had this been after the window had shut then I'd be in agreement with you.

Yes it's their call. I'm just questioning it, because to my eyes, after the debacle at the beginning of last season where 17 players were made unavailable as we prioritised trading them out over playing them, I don't trust their judgement.

"17 players made unavailable"? Is that right ? I can only remember 2 or 3 first teamers being unavailable at most with only Capoue being brought back in from the cold?

Go back and check. My memory might be hazy but I'm sure it was about that number. We slapped a 'for sale' on anyone with a potential resale value and excluded them from the squad.

I suspect the players are contractually obliged to contribute towards the clubs media output in a reasonable manner. I doubt they can just say ‘I don’t want to’.

Moog are you sure this figure of 17 isn't just your total aliases on here!

In all seriousness yes the start of last season was ridiculous with who was injured/covid/for sale or trying to offload:

    Foster
    Kiko
    Massina
    Gray
    Hughes
    Delefeou
    Doucoure
    Capoue
    Deeney
    Saurez
    Estupinan
    Dahlberg
    Welbeck
    Pereyra
    Sarr
    Pusseto
    Success
    Quina
    Dawson

    Plus the Mariappa nonsense.

Masina, Hughes, Gray and Success all had quite serious injuries at the time, Sarr was unavailable because he'd been back home over the summer, Deeney was linked with a transfer away, but returned against L*ton while plainly unfit, Perica had just signed (but probably had a papercut or something), TDB wasn't in the squad for some reason

Estupinan was sold about a week later, Pereyra, Deulofeu, Dawson and Suarez were all let go towards the end of the window, Pussetto followed Deulofeu and Pereyra 'on loan', Welbeck and Janmaat were paid off, leaving Capoue reintegrated into the squad for a few months
