I love Hughes but if he won’t sign a contract then £12m is good no?

He's hardly irreplaceable. He can sign the contract offered or do one.

If this is true, it's no way to treat a player like Hughes.

if he won’t sign a contract possibly , if however he is playing hardball and wants the same amount per week as other players (see below, I do accept that this website is speculation rather than reality) pay him more money , should he really be paid less than Gray and Success

    https://salarysport.com/football/sky-bet-championship/watford/

£12m for Hughes doesn’t seem very mucha and doubt if we could get an upgrade for that kind of money

We might not be offering him a decent/fair contract for what he is worth though.

If he is digging his heels in it's different I suppose, but I suspect we're trying to sell him to raise funds without letting on that we're trying to sell him to raise funds

Agreed. No movement on his contract, seemingly not training with the group and regular stories linking him with a move (no smoke without fire) all add up to give a pretty clear indication.

I will be peed off if Hughes leaves. He was one of the key players last season, (once they played him in his preferred position.)

Not sure what the ins and outs of this are , but we really need to hold on to Hughes IMO . Proven premier leagues player who would not be easy to replace and was a key player last season.

If he does want to leave, no player is irreplacable though I would be very disappointed if he did leave. We've seen what happens when we keep players longer than they wish to with Doucoure, Capoue and others so if letting go of Hughes puts us in a longer term position, it would suck but I could understand it.

I think that is probably correct, as he signed as third choice, however I believe I saw that he was going to be offered improved terms due to his performances for us last season, which was before his Austria games!

Can't blame Will leaving if he gets a better offer at another club. Would be a sad loss for us though. At the end of the day good luck to the dude.

Obviously no idea what's going on behind the scenes, but the lack of comms on social around him and Chalobah is incredibly telling.

It seems a strange one, which PL clubs does Hughes go to and get into their starting 11? I'm not sure he'd get into any except maybe Palace, Brentford and maybe Burnley and Newcastle. He's only just established himself as a starter in his favoured position at Watford, where he's become a key player and fan favourite. Why leave now?

Yeah Chalobah has disappeared now as well. He was in the first few pictures at the start of pre-season and they've clearly been careful not to show him since.

Haha, we really have no hope if we are losing Hughes and Chalobah and replacing them with cheap unproven replacements.

Personally I think Etebo is an upgrade on Chalobah. Louza potentially an upgrade on Hughes, we'll have to see though.

There’s a video on the Watford Instagram of Chalobah that was posted half an hour ago.

Would be a bit surprised if they were, but even if so...we need depth in midfield, not to be selling two of our best players!

Plus he must be watching that fraud Declan Rice racking up caps at a major tournament and thinking “If I didn’t play for f****** Watford I might get a look-in here”.

He wouldn't be a regular starter in most other Premier teams though so doubtful it would be any benefit to him.

Gino has done pretty well up to now, it’s his money, he has first hand knowledge of how much relegation costs we have to believe he doesn’t want to experience that again! Let him trade whoever and buy whoever and see what happens! Have faith!

Exactly. This is Hughes last best chance to set himself up financially. Assuming he signs a deal of reasonable length he'll be 30 at least when it expires. Wages will come down from there barring some sort of miracle. So he needs to get as much as he can now. Don't blame him. Hope he gets it for us.

If this is true, then Newcastle can’t afford him. Apparently they only have £10mil to spend. If reports are true that we want £12mil for Hughes, can’t imagine Newcastle stumping up £5-6mil upfront for Hughes leaving them with £4-5mil to strengthen the other areas.

This is all a little strange

He hasn't been in any of the group photos or clips so we have to assume he's either training apart, or not at LC

If we have accepted an offer for him I can see why that might be - but then why is it being dragged out for >2 weeks like this?

Otherwise him not training in the group makes no sense to me - he's still under contract for a year so if he's not sold he plays for us, he's never seemed the type of person to throw an 'I'm leaving' strop, didn't last year, and there has been no news of an injury

There were players last year for whom we didn't accept an offer, yet they were still in the infamous 'other group' in training. Obviously Capoue wanted to leave last summer, although I do think we're forcing Hughes out

Just like last summer we probably don't want players in the group who don't want to be here, like Doucoure and Capoue. Even Troy trained away from LC on his own while his agent tried to find him another club I think.

I don't think for one second Hughes has kicked up a fuss, more like his agent has said he won't be signing a new deal and the club have told Will just keep yourself fit while we find a buyer. I doubt we've offered a big wage increase and when you throw in the relegation decrease then it's probably not a very attractive offer, so I don't blame Will at all.

Or he's the reason the kit is being released so late :D.
