I'm ashamed that we insulted another football club by offering them millions of pounds! It's a disgrace!
In football circles “insulting offer” is definitely now code for ‘Watford FC’. I can only assume we offered them Gray and Deeney instead of cash.
It's only insulting if you believe the player is worth a lot more. Maybe we don't. It's just an opinion. Sounds like he wants to leave to this unnamed club which usually means he will.
In all seriousness it’s just part of negotiation, they’re saying £4m so we offer £1.2m and we’ll end up in the middle, we’d be mugs to offer £2m off the bat as nobody accepts the first or even second offer on the table, so then we end up paying £3m+. Equally if they don’t call £1.2m insulting they’ll never get us up to £2/2.5m. Their £4m is as ‘outrageous’ as our £1.2m is ‘insulting’.
Yep, or could've been just our opening offer. When negotiating as the buyer, start low. However, if they're going to be ****s about it...
Tremendous scenes. We are back! Bantering off crap clubs with derisory offers for their best players is what we like to see!
£1.2 million for a first team regular that currently plays for a team that has just qualified for Europe And we wonder why they reject it immediately. Never change Gino, never change. On a plus side, it’s probably the first time any player has handed in a transfer request to get a move to Watford!
Gino really is like those people who turn up at the end of car boot sales and offer 5p for your Nan’s antique crockery set.
I don't think £1.2m is that insulting if they're refusing to play ball. We're hardly going to throw a few million at them straight away. As @Burnsy says, this is only going one way now.
This is how you play Football Manager. Declare interest, stick in derisory offer, transfer request, bargain.
Ranger’s fans hoping we get him. Aberdeen fans saying they’d take 3 mil. Does this really sound like a player we should be going after? I’ve read the previous posts here saying that 3 million is pocket money but on the grand scheme of things, that money could instead go towards a £20 million signing. Wasn’t it Giaretta who stated in that interview the other day that we would only be investing into players/positions that are better than what we currently have? Not so sure Ferguson is any better than Gosling..
Wobby say we have had 2 bids rejected. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/19315061.watford-two-bids-rejected-aberdeen-lewis-ferguson/
Watford Observer claiming we’ve had 2 bids turned down, the player is keen and we have asked Aberdeen to quote his price but they’ve ignored the requests to do so. The player is supposedly upset that Aberdeen are refusing to even negotiate.
No not seen him kick a single ball. But he hasn’t played for Scotland which is a red flag to me, plus Aberdeen fans don’t seem to think he Is PL level.
Villa fans probably said the same about John McGinn. This sounds like a good transfer to me. Quietly face-lifting the wider squad numbers before the summer window even kicks into gear - the bigger signings made to be first team regulars will happen later in the window.
I think people are taking Giaretta's comments far too literally. The club clearly have to upgrade some positions but we're not just going to sign players who will be immediate starters this window. Next season is going to be a struggle and we'll do well to avoid relegation, so we'd be stupid not to use our PL status and additional funds to get some deals done for players with a lot of potential. Luckily the club seem to be targeting these kind of players which is sensible imo. Sure, if we end the window only having signed youngsters from Grimsby and Rochdale then I'll ask questions but I'm sure the bigger deals will be done once we get into the summer.
Hard to know - Bruges fans pissed themselves that we bought Oulare for that much, but then on the other hand, Wigan fans said Ben Watson was finished as a Championship player, and West Brom fans said that Foster's knees were shot.
Yeah every fan wants their top scorer out of the club asap. He's only 21 and I'd say the National side for Scotland have some decent options in midfield. But I do suggest looking at a player before making opinions.
