So do you reckon Watford have taken someone on similar to you Reid’s? We seem to have some inventive set pieces going round at the moment.

Chalobah said after his goal against Birmingham that he'd been working with "our set-piece specialist Roberto" that he gave praise to for the goal which is this guy: https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/men/staff/roberto-cuesta not so much of an analyst but more on the coaching side it seems.

Balance is restored somewhat, 4 goals scored in April already!

I saw that - it's an interesting read: https://trainingground.guru/article...otiate-new-man-city-deal#.YHNUYSD7xio.twitter sadly beyond my capabilities!

Corner goal #5 for the month (and my 29th for the season) was scored the other day in a textbook example of how to break zonal marking setups

SonderjyskE also beat FC Midtjylland in the Danish cup semi final yesterday to book our place in the Danish cup final against Randers which is a very winnable game. Win that and we qualify for the Europa League!

Forest Green had 19 (!) corners yesterday, creating 12 shots (worth 2.9 xG) and scoring 2 goals - taking my tally to 31 goals for the season (and a 7.61% conversion rate for April so far which is crazily high) :D

How does it work when you have that many corners? Are there 3/4 set routines you keep trying and a couple of more special/different ones? Are you watching the games and seeing how the defence responds and giving any input to the staff on the bench in real time?

And a more fundamental question, regardless of the inventiveness of the routines, is a decent dead ball specialist still essential?

Everything I do is in the week before the game, never watch the games live so don't do any real-time stuff, imagine that would change though if I were working for a single club though. As for when you have that many corners, you mostly repeat, I usually provide 2 routines per game some of which are repeatable but some not (due to the surprise factor being lost!) and then the coaching staff add their own routines to the matchplan as well.

I wouldn't say it's essential, most of the clubs I've been hired by have had issues with delivery and when you've got poor delivery you can generally do 2 things - you can either mix up the delivery method (chipping the ball is more accurate than trying to curl it, so you can base routines around that - although it's also easier to win by the defence so the routine needs to be solid for that to work!) or you can make sure you have a really good plan/routine to make sure that when the delivery is accurate that you know you'll get a good chance out of it. I've found doing a mixture of both to be the most effective!

Didn't Forest Green sack their manager the week before? How does that effect you if and when that happens?

Yeah, they had an absolutely awful run. I was hired by the DoF rather than by the coaching staff that were sacked so still continuing my work, it gets sent to the analyst who then passes it on to the coaching staff so hasn't really impacted me at all (always good to try and get hired by the hierarchy above the manager for that very reason!)

I haven't but as it look like the Swansea game will now be pretty important i'll send over a little something for that game!

In fairness, if we score a corner that means we’re promoted he’ll claim it whether it’s one of his or not.

On Tuesday you felt the Swansea game could be important. It may still be if we have a chance of winning the legue. However priority number 1 is winning today. Without giving anything away (if possible), is there anything we should look out for today that you may have had some input on? Perhaps a player to look for at set pieces?

From Watfords side I haven't had any impact on todays set-pieces sadly (although we haven't had many tbf!), although I used to work for Millwall a couple of years ago and got them on the "Cooper at the backpost" tactic that they're now very keen on. I''ll still provide something for Swansea as i've prepped it anyway and seems a waste otherwise haha

Think it was the previous owner tbf, apparently signed some underage Nigerian players that breaks FIFA laws. £400k fine as well as the transfer ban. A 2 year transfer ban is just what you want with only 14 contracted first team players

First set-piece goal of the new season! A lovely worked (with a helping hand from some awful defending) short corner routine. I think these style of short corners are really underutilised at the moment!

I see spezia’s first goal vs Juve was scored with “a shot following a corner”. One of your routines ?

Sorry just seen this! Nah, Spezia oddly don't want any advice regarding set-pieces they've said (I mean, that's supposed to be my job but oh well...) so I take no credit/blame for their set-piece record (which is horrendous in both attack and defence). I'm going out there on Sunday so will hopefully be able to persuade them then!

All good! Will do a proper update after next weeks games when all positions + stats have been finalised, but have a mixed season with 1 promotion (Casa Pia promoted to the Portuguese top flight for the first time in 84 years!), 1 relegation (SonderjyskE relegated) and Spezia sealed their place in Serie A next season with a win over Udinese next season. Both Casa Pia and SonderjyskEs attacking set-piece stats were both great though which has been great to see!
