Depends. The buyers are only going to be more of the same!

If they put the club up for sale the moment their closed-shop league fell on its face, then they clearly only bought Man United with the objective of a closed shop league and are walking away now they know it's done.

That being the case, the new owners will come in knowing that there is zero possibility of a closed shop league, so almost certainly can't be as bad as the Glazers for the sport as a whole. Might be as bad or worse for the Mancs though!

Part of me hopes the 50+1 rule comes in still, the other part of me has seen the state of some of our fans... :D

No. Apparently he was always planning to resign this summer and his departure is absolutely nothing to do with the ESL collapse.

    Yeah, right.

Even in failure they still try to treat us all like mugs.

There will be parties in Salford tonight. They despise Woodward as much as anyone. One of the bankers underlings is disposed of. Now for the other cancers like Perez and the Agnellis. These clubs still need to be beaten with a stick to remind them what has happened. In a way it is a shame this farce did not go ahead and the clubs kicked out of the PL.

It would have been wonderful to see them come crawling back tails between their legs in a few seasons after pitiful viewing figures and dwindling interest. Woolwich and Spuds back in the Isthmian Premier after a century of being away. :D

This the same Lineker that suggested just a couple of weeks ago that San Marino have no right to play England currently and should have to jump through hoops to do so?

The question now is what does the PL do with the consiprators aka the big 6?

IMO, they all need to be made an example of. I'm talking points deductions and/or fines.

What they did was disgusting and utterly self-serving. The owners of these clubs have shown their true colours and I hope the PL hangs them all out to dry.

There is a case for the PL being a little more lenient on Chelsea and City as they came to their senses. The remaining 4 though should have the book thrown at them though.

It's like unruly school children in a classroom: give them an inch and they'll take a mile.

Make no mistake, the PL needs to send a clear message here that dissent like will absolutely not be tolerated under any circumstances. Will they do it though? That's the question. My gut says no. We can always dream though...

Points deductions or fines only have a short term effect and would be fought tooth and nail through arbitration.

I think the best punishment would be to take advantage of their repentance and get them to vote through rule changes with the other 14 that prevent anything like this ever being proposed again. And to commit to supporting whatever the outcome is from the football governance review the government is now starting.

I must say, I was surprised how big the government went on this and I can’t help but think it’s that which ultimately ****ed it. Threats of being chucked out of leagues and international bans etc don’t carry a huge amount of weight when the people handing out the punishment stand to lose just as much if not more themselves by doing it. I really don’t think they envisaged the government would step in and effectively kill it.

20 points deduction next season. No European football for 3 years and £100m fine.

Might make the vermin think twice before doing it again in 5 years surely?

It seems that Chelsea only agreed to join on Saturday, they didn't like the idea but were afraid of being left behind.

The driving force was Man United

All 6 clubs have officially started proceedings to withdraw.

Arsenal the only club to actually apologise. The rest have started the spin machine.

Chelsea and Man City such idiots. Could have looked legends but instead look snivelling cowards who Man Utd and Liverpool vermin owners invited as an afterthought.

I also think the clubs were surprised, not just in this country but across Europe. They can ignore fans and stick two finger up at FIFA and UEFA but a government can legislate and that terrifies them.

The clubs can. But the execs have been replaced.

Rummenigge is the head of the table now at the ECA. He’s a football man and hard-willed - and his club backed UEFA. Agnelli and Woodward dead men walking at their clubs. Long road back. Can’t see any of them welcomed back under their current ownerships.

They made their bed - and they have signalled that they know they have no other choice but to lie in them. It’s up to other European clubs and the FA, PL and EFL to make them as uncomfortable as possible.

I can't say it any better than that. Chelsea could have had the moral high ground for years off of the back of this, but greed got the better of them.

Absolute scum the lot of them. They need to be reminded of this every game they play next season and beyond. Their fans need to do whatever they can to force the owners out. These absolute c*nts tried to **** every other club in the country for their own benefit. I look forward to the Spanish and Italian clubs dealing with their mountains of debt they thought they could just magic away through ******* everyone else over.

Never ever forgive and forget these arseholes, they overplayed their hand and need to be held to account. This won't usher in a new era of more responsible ownership but at least it's a lesson to these total c*nts that they can't just tear up the rule book.

Oh, and there was a fantastic game at the top of the Championship tonight too, that's real football for you, you c*nts!

You’ll rarely hear me praise top 6 fans etc, but they have been in absolute uproar about this.

Despite technically gaining the most, they’ve been devastated by what’s happened to their clubs and United fans especially have been trying to get rid of the rat poison Glaziers/ Woodward for years.

The supporters groups have fought tooth and nail to kill the move as quickly as possible. Players/ too have been exerting what power they have to force owners to U turn.

Reviews should address and change the power and influence of the power of big clubs, as well as the power and influence of FIFA/ UEFA. They should really force these greedy owners to sell up.

But if owners are forced out, points deductions punish fans and players that weren’t told of the changes, and then forced an end to the madness.

I’m kind of baffled by how it’s all unfolded today. Didn’t the clubs anticipate the backlash from their own fans? Surely that backlash (from those dismissed/categorised as ‘legacy fans’) was considered part of the cost of going public. If it wasn’t then that’s just remarkable tone-deafness and idiocy.

I had thought that this was all a ruse to gain leverage and secure more concessions from UEFA. Obviously though these clubs have just lost that leverage due to their utter incompetence. Very pleasing.

40 points deduction next season, no European football for 5 years, a £250mil fine that then gets split and paid out to the remaining 14 clubs next season, and a 3 year transfer embargo, where they are only allowed to sell players.

Personally I still think they should be booted out to league 2, however, what I’ve said above, is enough.
