I definitely thought Masina was gonna pass it to Hughes (who was in acres of space) for a shot instead tbf. Glad he didn't now!
Eeeeeeiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeiiiiiiieeiiooooo Up the football league we go, When we win promotion this is what we’ll sing. Let’s all have a disco let’s all have a disco. Na na na Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Foster has to play in this game. Bachmann is far too wobbling against a team like Cardiff. Whoever scores first will win this one. We'll never score from a direct free kick. We always let in late goals. We're never going to keep up with Swansea or Brentford. Well.....none of that was true today. Magnificent win. I would say in the context of the game, the importance of it and the difficulty of opponent, that has to be our most impressive victory of the season. Before the match, I had this down as a game we'd probably drop points in, but to win this, surely that will breath belief into the fans and players that we could do it. To score in such dramatic fashion, not only is the best way to win a game (as a fan), but it must be a kick in the teeth for Brentford and Swansea supporters, Just as it was for us last week when they did the same. To get three points, based on the performance was deserved. We controlled the game and created the best chances. Cardiff only had one shot on target and got lucky with the goal they scored. Having said that, I could have saved our winner. What was their keeper thinking? Not that I'm complaining. Pressure back on Swansea and Brentford now. No one dare not win. It's now a 10 match mini league. Bring it on.
I’m still too dumbstruck to know if that was a good or bad game to watch We were no match for them physically, they couldn’t touch our skill. When the own goal went it I thought we were screwed never going to score two. Challobah , what a difference , what a great goal. Bachman was serious worrying me, but at the other end did you see JPs header followed by over head kick. when we got the free kick, I was thinking we never score form a free kick, don’t know if it was struck well, or lucky , but Masina get the **** in. that was a massive win for us and the way the team and staff celebrated when the goal went in was nuts. I was watching on the Cardiff stream and have to say they seemed like jolly nice presenters very fair in their criticism and praise for both teams. have to say they were physical but to me seemed a fair team none of the muff theatrics get in , get up go again.
I missed it but heard the commentary, is there a video for this? When I heard it a bit of me thought “I hope Sierralta doesn’t get sent off”.most of me was thinking “Respect”.
Haven’t celebrated a televised goal like that in many a long year. Was unable to watch the whole game so followed on SSN, they cut live to the free kick. I paid minimal attention, knowing nothing would come of it. And then it DID! I hopped around the kitchen like a joyous frog. For all the misery football can provide, we must savour these moments.
Everyone is saying that it was a GK error that allowed Masina to score, but there was one hell of a bend on that FK and I think that is what fooled the Keeper, so I think we should give Masina a bit more credit for that winner.
We are currently 3 points better off at this stage of the season than we were the last time we went up.
I hate to ask a silly question, but was Sarr playing in the middle , it looked for a lot of the match like Kiko was playing the Sarr role ?
I don't get this. It's the first free kick we have scored from in 5 years. He hit it with terrific pace from about 30 yards, and was bending like a banana, and (wow!!!) it was on effing target. How can that ever be called a TERRIBLE free kick? Made me laugh actually after the usual subjects were giving it large at Masina all through the first half in the Shoutbox. He has been absolutely fine since he came back from injury. He had another good game today, and has won us the last two games with long range efforts. He is also clearly a first class professional, is so supportive of his colleagues and obviously a good man to have around. I do wonder why there always has to be a boo boy on there. But on a more positive note what a great win that was. First loss for Cardiff in 11 or 12 games. We had 65% possession and Cardiff (2nd highest scorers in the Championship) had their first and only shot on target in the 89th minute, a long range effort straight at our keeper. Unbelievable display of togetherness at the end too. A simply brilliant win. Swansea and Brentford should be worrying about us more than we should be worrying about them. And I havn't given up on catching Norwich either. Only 7 points behind with 30 points to play for, and still to play them. They will be sneaking a look over their shoulders with concern.
Huge win. 2nd half was scrappy and lacking quality, but to nick it in that fashion, from a free kick (is that even legal?) Was fantastic. Chalobah had his best game of the season IMO. At the back, we seemed to be nervy all round, from Bachman forward. Still, we were the better side and, I think, decent value for the win. Gray actually came on and made 3 decent touches. This was a big banana skin and we managed to avoid it. Now the pressure is on our rivals for a bit. We just might do this.....
I'm almost certain that game was lost at home to Ipswich's breakaway goal after we had thrown half of Hertfordshire at them. Still, nice to know we are capable of still leathering a FK in.
Oh behave will you. Imagine Bachman let that it. I’m bloody delighted at the win and the goal, but it was nothing other than an absolute clanger from the keeper. They were laughing at him on SSN and saying it looks like he was trying to wave at somebody. It is possible to be both be pleased at the result and the outcome but also describe the winning goal completely objectively you know.
In honour of BSAD's IKG, my 5 thunks are... 1- Our defence is so good that we now have to score the opposition's goals for them. Apart from that speculative long distance shot in final stages that rolled into Bachmans arms, they didnt have a shot on target. Its difficult to tell how good Bachman is because hes had so little to do in his games, although what he has done has largely been good. However I would like to see Foster back now, hes fit. 2- Sierralta is the main reason why we have the best defence in all English leagues ( goals per game conceded). That and the tactical organsiation bequethed by Ivic, although it seems Munoz has improved on it further still. It just goes to show that the best form of defence is to keep possession ( apart from today where we had to score their goal for them). Troost looks shaky in possession and too error prone. Time to give another CB a place next to SA. 3- Massina FK - many stating that keeper made a mistake , which he did, but it was the serious whip that Massina schwenged on it that caused the confusion. 4- As Ive often said, team spirit is best measured ( for us outside observers) by how the team celebrate a goal. At the start of the season they barely celebrated, now they remind me of 14/15 and 12/13 team. I recall Gary Neville saying that when Utd scored Keane was always the first person to reach the goal scorer and celebrate and that gave them belief. I used to love watching Angella sprint the full length of the pitch to celebrate in the corner flag. 5- Xisco is starting to make good substitutions at the right times. I know there is talk of here about how tired they looking but I remember an interview with Abdi saying how the squad felt that 2 games a week kept them at their premium fitness and sharpness. The downside of this is that you have less time to prepare tactically. However when you are playing well with a strong identity, the necessity for this reduces as you just need to play your best game and let the opposition worry about you. Now Im off to have cocktails in the Hornets Lounge on the newly raised and refurbished HMS PTL.
If you had watched our free kicks over the past five years, then you would have seen some terrible free kicks, about 75% of them, or more.. The fact that the keeper probably should have saved it, doesn't mean it was a "terrible£" free kick. The SSN boys were laughing at their keeper flapping, not Masina's terrible kick? Even Will Hughes apparently said to Masina "Just hit the target", which he did.
Pretty sure it was Pedro pulling their guys man bun at the end and then running off. Revenge for the pull on sierraltas bun in the game. Also the keeper was anticipating the flick so started to go a touch to his left, but the power behind the strike and the non touch from Sarr(?) meant it whizzed past him. An error, but not the worst gk error of the season.
Yeah I saw that too. Thats why they had fisticuffs at the end. It all started because Flint pulled SAs man bun at the corner before.
The first time we've won away in the league having conceded first in over two years (Jan 2019 v Palace - 2-1)
Fantastic free kick - hard, bending, on target. Very strong wind affecting any ball in. Keeper looks like he has moved to defend a touch from Sierralta which never came.
Ok I concede it wasn’t a terrible free kick in that it hit the target which is certainly unusual for us. But 99/100 the opposition keeper routinely catches that into his chest and we’re all moaning about how awful it was.
Absolutely great post ZZtop! Masina is a good player and I think will get better. In the past he has often not had proper help in front of him on the left side of midfield.
The Richard Lee one was around half time I seem to remember. We were all thinking 'Wtf? Get Hoskins on!' And suddenly he made two ridiculous saves and we went up the other end and scored two. I might have dreamt this whole thing.
Why are they “tricky away games”? I long one day for a manager to not say “This is a difficult place to come to.” Rather something like: “Rotherham are down at the bottom and have already lost 9 times at home. It’s quite an easy place to come to and we should take all 3 points.” Because that’s what they’re thinking.
Surely like a joyous platypus. UpTheCherries is in mourning. End of an era. Bankruptcy beckons and mediocrity. Don't cry for me Lerma.
I couldn't watch it today so I take the credit for the win.! If I'd have been watching I know we would have lost.... Who would have thought we'd be happy with Massina 18 months ago.?! OK so we have a tough run-in, but I think that might suit us better, no worrying about whether we can beat a poor bottom 3 team as we should. Those last games will be 6 pointers against close adversaries, so they will be mini Cup finals in themselves. If we lose two of the last 3 games then we won't deserve top 2, win them and we're deservedly up.!!
He dropped inside every now and the to give us numbers in the middle as Cardiff play 3 CBs and so creates space on the flank.
They are playing a very fluid formation. There is no real set six although Hughes occupies the base almost all the time. The others have license to rotate. Sema less so but Zinckernagel who had some delightful touches, Pedro and Sarr were coming deep and central for a fair bit creating all sorts of issues for their back three. Pedro has a wonderful ability to drop into space. Such a shame that volley was straight at Phillips as it would have been another contender for goal of the season.
Ah yes, thanks for correcting me, I knew it was at one of those “ we are better than you lot “ because the history books says so, Clubs!
No 1 rule being applied there . Strange things can happen with shots on target . A pile driving thunderbolt that beats the keeper and misses the target by just 1 cm ends as .....just a goal kick .
